Severe storms cause thousands of dollars of damage to Jacksonville man's businesses

JACKSONVILLE, Ark. – Some roads in Jacksonville are still blocked off and flooded from severe storms, with Redmond Road being one of many flooded roads affecting businesses in the area. John Barber owns three businesses on the road and says they've been closed since the storm hit. 'Even though with all the storms we've had in the past, we've never had it so bad where we couldn't get to the business,' Barber said. Many rivers across Arkansas are swollen after days of heavy rain Barber said he used a canoe to get to and from his businesses and recently saw how much damage the storm left behind. 'There was about 12 inches of water in our offices, so we lost quite a bit of electronics and various things like that as well as damage to the interior walls,' Barber said. He is now left to reconstruct and replace thousands of dollars' worth of equipment, leaving his employees out of a job. John's daughter,r Christina Barber, manages his gym and says it was disappointing to not have people return Monday morning. 'I hope it just gets better, really; I hope that they can just get some stability in their lives,' Christina said. President Trump approves Arkansas Emergency Declaration John says he's hoping that Jacksonville leaders will work towards having a better drainage system to prevent situations like his. 'I think that they've listened in the past and tried to do some work on it but again nothing seems to be working,' Barber said. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Flooding ravages Hardy, Arkansas

HARDY, Ark. – The Spring River is what keeps people coming to Hardy, Arkansas, but this past weekend it was the reason they were told to leave. Michael Ronald is one of several people looking for belongings on Monday after flooding over the weekend. 'I've been here since 8 o'clock this morning, and I haven't found a thing,' Roland said. President Trump approves Arkansas Emergency Declaration He said he bought his land after a previous flood drove some neighbors out. The aftermath of a historic flood is almost unrecognizable on his plot and many of his neighbors' plots. 'The insurance company canceled everybody's insurance policy, saying they weren't covering the awnings anymore, so he's still got his river lot, but he lost $100,000 that he had paid,' Ronald said pointing at a neighbor's land. On Bobo Drive, water rose to the second story of Trip Monger's cabin. 'This is by far the worst (flood) we've had,' Monger stated. A boat against his place is proof not everyone had time to move possessions after an evacuation order on Friday. 'I've been coming here since I was six weeks old, and my grandparents have been coming here since the '30s,' Monger said. 'Hopefully, we can have the upstairs livable by this summer.' At its highest stage, the Spring River reached about 23 feet. A normal stage is about three feet. Some people tried to stay, and authorities performed perilous water rescues. At least 16 dead in flooding, tornadoes as storms slash parts of US A shelter is open in Hardy for those who need it. Most say they plan to stay and rebuild, even if they lost everything. Mark White, whose RV was at River Bend Park, said it appears 90% of it is washed away. 'These people become your neighbors per se, and become your friends, even if you don't recognize them and only see them walking by, and your heart just goes out to them,' White said.
