World's largest Roman shoe discovered; 2,000-year-old footprint of history stuns archaeologists

along Hadrian's Wall in Northumberland, England, have uncovered an extraordinary collection of Roman footwear, including the largest shoes ever recorded from
Roman Britain
.
The shoes, dating back nearly 2,000 years, include a leather sole measuring roughly 12.8 inches (32.6 cm) long. Approximately a quarter of the shoes found at the site exceed 11.8 inches, a stark contrast to nearby Vindolanda, where only a tiny fraction of over 3,700 cataloged shoes reach that size.
Experts believe the preservation of these shoes is due to the anaerobic, waterlogged conditions of the fort's defensive ditches, which limited oxygen and slowed decay. Many of the shoes retain their original craftsmanship, including layered cowhide leather, stitching, and iron hobnails, offering rare insights into Roman shoemaking techniques and daily life on the northern frontier of the empire.

'If with a crack the rocket lifts off, with the vibrations, it will give way the moment it lifts off. Once it gives way, it will be a catastrophic situation, nothing else," he said. 'A total of 13 out of 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals are being supported by Isro,' the Isro chairman said, while also listing the space agency's other achievements like the Aditya L1 Sun mission and the NISAR mission. 'We have made a major breakthrough in cryogenic engine technology. The tests are going very well, and a lot of indigenisation activities are progressing well. Coming to the Aditya L1, this year we have released 13 terabit data,' he said. 'In two to three months, we are also going to launch a 6,500-kg communication satellite of the US, on our launch vehicle. To date, 433 satellites of 34 countries have been launched from India," Narayanan said.

Lucknow: The city is preparing to give a grand welcome to Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla , who is returning home for the first time after the historic mission to the International Space Station (ISS). A victory parade has been planned from Chaudhary Charan Singh Airport to Gomti Nagar Extension on Aug 25. The road outside his residence is being freshly laid, a symbolic gesture to honour the national hero's arrival. His parents, Shambhu Dayal Shukla and Asha Shukla, told TOI that they would be going to the airport to receive him. "Meeting him at Delhi airport earlier was one of the most emotional moments of my life. We had a brief time together, but in those moments, we spoke about his Axiom 4 mission and what it felt like to be back on Earth after so many days in space. He told me about his rehabilitation, about how he had to re-train his body just to walk again in gravity. As he was narrating it, I could see both the struggle and the triumph in his eyes.
