Golden Knights open homestand with 4-1 victory over defending champion Panthers
The Golden Knights came in losers of seven of their last nine and got a much-needed victory over the defending Stanley Cup champions to open their three-game homestand.
Brayden McNabb, Jack Eichel and Tomas Hertl also scored for Vegas, and Nic Roy had three assists. Anton Lundell scored for Florida, and Spencer Knight stopped 22 shots.
The Panthers were playing their fourth road game in six nights and were on the second leg of a back-to-back after beating San Jose 7-2 on Saturday night.
The Golden Knights reclaimed sole possession of first place in the Pacific Division, moving a point in front of Edmonton.

After struggling to land commits from the 2026 class, Florida has done a tremendous job of recovering. The Gators now have the No. 12 overall class for the cycle on On3 Sports. Florida's class is led by four-star receiver Davian Groce, four-star defensive lineman JaReylan McCoy and four-star defensive lineman Kendall Guervil. Five-star defensive lineman James Johnson has been committed to the Texas Longhorns since July 15, but that is not stopping Florida from scheduling a fall visit with him, per Rivals' Marcus Benjamin. 'I probably will see UF and UM at some point this season," Johnson said. "I haven't decided on any games, but we'll see. Miami and Florida are really the schools that are in touch with me.' Johnson is a four-star prospect and the No. 1 defensive lineman in the Rivals Industry Rankings. Florida has a slight home-field advantage with him, considering he is a native of Miami, Florida. Head coach Billy Napier secured one five-star commit in the 2025 class, via receiver Vernell Brown III. He has landed a five-star prospect each year dating back to the 2024 cycle. While the Gators are pursuing the Texas commit, Florida is fending off schools from luring away four-star offensive tackle Tyler Chukuyem. Chukuyem has been committed to the Gators since June 16, but is receiving interest from the Georgia Bulldogs, and is visiting Athens in the fall. These 3 Florida Gators among ESPN's top 100 college football players in 2025
The 2025 college football season is nearly upon us and among the many questions being asked ahead of the opening kickoff is one that has been around since the game began: "Who are the best players in the sport?" Every year brings a clean slate to work with and the sports media is not shy about making use of the fanbase's unbridled anticipation. ESPN's college football crew recently took a stab at ranking the top 100 college football players heading into fall and included a trio of Florida Gators. Those three members of the Orange and Blue are redshirt senior defensive lineman Caleb Banks, redshirt senior center Jake Slaughter and sophomore quarterback DJ Lagway, respectively. Here is what they had to offer on each player. Caleb Banks (No. 47) "The towering, 6-6, 330-pound interior defensive lineman has been a constant for the Gators since arriving from Louisville in 2023, tallying 21 starts at Florida over the past two seasons," Eli Lederman begins. "Banks set career highs in tackles (21) and sacks (4.5) a year ago. In 2025, he returns to anchor a veteran defensive line within a promising Gators defense, carrying legit first-round NFL draft size and potential." Jake Slaughter (No. 37) "One of the most experienced members along a seasoned Florida offensive line (21 career starts), Slaughter sits at the heart of a pivotal unit for the Gators in 2025," Lederman offers. "The 6-5, 303-pound blocker earned first-team AP All-America honors a year ago in his first season as a full-time starter. In 2025, Slaughter is back as one of four returning starters on a Florida offensive line tasked with protecting second-year quarterback DJ Lagway and paving the way for reigning Freshman All-SEC running back Jadan Baugh." DJ Lagway (No. 25) "The only question with Lagway is how healthy he will be," Chris Low cautions. "He was limited by an injury to his throwing shoulder in the spring then by a calf strain this preseason. When he is 100 percent, Lagway's ceiling is as high as any quarterback in the country. Dolphins Activate Darren Waller: What It Means For The Roster In 2025
The Dolphins are potentially getting a huge boost to their pass-catcher group this week. The team announced that tight end Darren Waller has been activated from the PUP (physically unable to perform) list. Waller was added in a trade from the Giants earlier this offseason. The Dolphins sent the Giants a 2026 sixth-round pick for Waller and a 2027 seventh-round pick. This trade was made just days after the Dolphins traded away former starting tight end Jonnu Smith and cornerback Jalen Ramsey to the Steelers. Waller announced his retirement last summer and didn't play in the 2024 season as a result. However, the veteran changed his mind this offseason, and will now officially play for the Dolphins in 2025. Head coach Mike McDaniel said on Monday that he expected Waller back soon. 'I'm expecting to see him sooner than later,' McDaniel said. 'In the back of my mind, it would be this week, but I'm not going to just put him out there this week just because I said it before. I'm hopeful, but it's very soon so we're just making sure all our ducks are in a row before we take that listing off of him.' Now, just two days later, Waller is indeed ready to practice with his teammates. McDaniel also referred to Waller as a 'cerebral' player and mentioned that the veteran is in a 'good spot.' 'So he's on it, and he hasn't been shy of letting his teammates know how honored he is,' McDaniel added. 'Specifically, when they make a mistake. So we're doing all the little things. I think he's in a good spot, and we're excited to see him once he gets on the field.' The Dolphins certainly need Waller to be his vintage self. Behind Waller on the depth chart, the Dolphins have Pharaoh Brown, Tanner Conner, and Julian Hill. Those three tight ends combined for just 23 catches last season, so it's not exactly a deep group. Meanwhile, Waller made the Pro Bowl in 2020 and was briefly among the best tight ends in the league at one time. Waller caught 90+ passes and gained 1,000+ yards in both 2019 and 2020 and managed to catch 52 passes for 552 yards on a bad Giants' offense in 2023. If Waller is anywhere near his previous form, the Dolphins could have top pass-catching unit in the league.
