DaBaby Assault Charges For Bowling Alley Scuffle With DaniLeigh's Brother Thrown Out
DaBaby scored a major legal victory this week. His assault charges stemming from a bowling alley scuffle with DaniLeigh's brother in 2022 were thrown out.
Los Angeles County Judge Huey P. Cotton made the call on Wednesday (May 21), stating that Brandon Bills failed to submit proper court papers that invoked the Charlotte rapper within the three years since initially filing the lawsuit, according to Billboard. Bills, real name Brandon Curiel, is the brother of DaniLeigh, whom the 'Suge' rapper dated until November 2021. They share one daughter.
Bills' attorneys claimed that it had been 'virtually impossible' to serve the controversial rapper his court papers because he had been so busy touring the world. Judge Cotton countered and said that it was his 'lack of urgency' that hindered his ability to serve the 33-year-old rapper within the allotted time. 'The court finds plaintiff's explanations unavailing,' Cotton stated. 'Service was not attempted until more than a year after the case had been filed. The concert schedule attached does show some out of the country engagements. But the majority of the concert venues were in the United States.'
Brandon Bills originally claimed that DaBaby attacked him out of nowhere at a San Fernando bowling alley in 2022. TMZ later provided footage of the attack, but the eight-time Grammy nominee claimed he was acting out of self-defense. While the assault claims are now done with, DaBaby's pockets may still take a hit via Brandon Bills' lawsuit against Corbin Bowl, the alley in which he was allegedly attacked.
Bills is suing them for negligence in not preventing the alleged act of violence. The Baby On Baby artist is still involved due to an 'indemnity' claim by the bowling alley, asserting that he should be held liable financially for whatever judgment or possible settlement comes from the case. Corbin Bowl has denied any negligence, but believes that if they are to be held responsible for Bills' injuries, then DaBaby ought to pay some or all of his legal bills since he 'proximately caused' them. The bowling alley is scheduled to be put on trial in the fall of 2026.
