Amad wants Alejandro Garnacho to stay at Manchester United
Amad has said he wants Alejandro Garnacho to remain a Manchester United player into next season because the team 'need good players'.
Garnacho was told by Ruben Amorim that he should look for a new club during an address to his squad after the Europa League final, but Amad has come to his teammate's defence.

Speaking alongside Amorim in a press conference ahead of United's tour match against Hong Kong, China, Amad said: 'Alejandro is a really good player, we need good players in the team. I know Garna really well. I hope to have Garna next season. (It) is not really a big issue for the team.'
Amad and Garnacho are close friends, they also share the same agent, but his support was nonetheless significant.
Garnacho played the entire second half in United's first game against ASEAN All Stars, and Amorim insisted the situation with him being in Asia is fine despite the wider picture.
'It is not a surprise, he is a Manchester United player,' Amorim said. 'Some players are injured. It was better not to fly them here to play these two games. It is a normal situation (with Garnacho). It is OK.'
United will come up against a Hong Kong side managed by a former academy graduate in Ashley Westwood, who won the FA Youth Cup as a teenager at Old Trafford.
Westwood gave a revealing answer when asked about United's post-season journey to the other side of the world.
'Players, I have been there, just want to rest,' Westwood said. 'This trip is all about revenues, it has become a thing. Teams do end of season tours.
'I was working for MUTV in Perth on a pre-season trip. The end of season is different. Fans and sponsors pay wages. No players want to do it because they want to recover and many have internationals after that.
'They probably need this like a hole in the head. No-one says it on the record because you can't.'
Westwood added: 'Only impression I want to give is that we are a professional outfit. Man United are trying to come here and put a show on. We are sparring partners. It is an exhibition game. It is a training session for us.
'My job is to make sure no-one gets carried away. We are here to help the occasion and help fans get value for money.'

David Beckham to Receive Knighthood
"Hearst Magazines and Yahoo may earn commission or revenue on some items through these links." David Beckham is set to be awarded a knighthood in King Charles's annual birthday honors, which will be revealed next week. BBC Sport first reported the news, though a government spokesperson declined to comment on 'speculation on honours.' After he is knighted, he will be Sir David, and his wife Victoria will become 'Lady Victoria.' Beckham was appointed an officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2003, and in the years since, has emphasized his ties to the British royal family. 'I've always been a huge royalist, I was brought up in a family and household that adored and loved everything with the royal family,' he said. 'When the King asked me to part of his foundation, I was very honored, very privileged, I rang my mum straight away.' She 'burst into tears,' Beckham shared. 'She knows my grandparents would have been proud that I have played such an important role in the royal family and the charities that they have.' He's made numerous appearance recently with King Charles and Prince William, and last year, attended a State Banquet at Buckingham Palace. When Queen Elizabeth passed away, he was one of thousands who queued to pay their respects as the late monarch laid in state. 'The most special moment for me was to receive my OBE. I took my grandparents with me, who were the ones that really brought me up to be a huge royalist and a fan of the royal family, and obviously I had my wife there as well,' he shared upon the Queen's passing. 'To step up, to get my honor, but then also Her Majesty, to ask questions, to talk, I was so lucky that I was able to have a few moments like that in my life, to be around Her Majesty. Because we can all see with the love that has been shown, how special she is and how special she was and the legacy that she leaves behind.' Beckham played for Manchester United and the England national team, including playing 59 games as captain. He helped Manchester United win six Premier League championships, and also played for Real Madrid, LA Galaxy, AC Milan, and Paris Saint-Germain. Beckham will join a small list of former football players to be knighted. You Might Also Like 12 Weekend Getaway Spas For Every Type of Occasion 13 Beauty Tools to Up Your At-Home Facial Game

Arise Sir David! Beckham to be awarded a knighthood by King Charles, according to media reports
Associated Press LONDON (AP) — David Beckham, the former England soccer captain who has been an ambassador for the U.N. children's fund for two decades, is to receive a knighthood in next week's honors list from King Charles III, according to U.K. media reports Friday. Without citing sources, the BBC said Beckham is set to receive further recognition both for his soccer career, and his contributions to British society. The knighthood will make Beckham 'Sir David' while his wife since 1999, former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham, will become 'Lady Beckham.' In 2003, Beckham was awarded the Order of the British Empire, or OBE, for services to soccer. Victoria Beckham got the same honor for services to the fashion industry in a later New Year Honours list. Honors are awarded twice a year, once at New Year's, and then in June to mark the king's birthday. They are mostly made on the recommendation of the government, though the monarch has input too. Prime Minister Keir Starmer's office would not confirm the press reports, as is custom. Buckingham Palace declined to comment. The Associated Press has not been able to independently confirm the award of the knighthood, which was first reported in The Sun tabloid newspaper. In video footage published by The Sun from the Chelsea Flower Show earlier this month, the king is seen asking Beckham if he 'received his 50th birthday present.' The King appeared to say 'I'm glad it got to you,' with Beckham responding: 'It was incredible, thank you, it was very kind.' Beckham and the king have crossed paths on numerous occasions, including at state functions. Last year, Beckham became an ambassador for The King's Foundation, an educational and sustainability charity Charles launched in 1990. Beckham, who is clearly a patriot, is the only English soccer player to score at three different World Cups and his illustrious career included the treble-winning campaign of 1999, when Manchester United won the Premier League, the FA Cup and the Champions League. With 115 appearances for the England national team, Beckham is third in the all-time list. He also captained the side on 59 occasions. After leaving Manchester United 2003, Beckham played for Real Madrid, Los Angeles Galaxy and Paris Saint-Germain. He now co-owns the MLS team Inter Miami. His career wasn't always a high, though. After the 1998 World Cup in France, Beckham was widely vilified for his petulant kick of Argentina player Diego Simeone, which saw him sent off. Many fans blamed him for England's exit. In 2023's Netflix documentary series 'Beckham,' he described the abuse he experienced, which included an effigy of him hanging from a noose outside a London pub. 'I knew it was bad at the time, but going over that whole thing was quite a tough one,' he told the AP. The four-part documentary series about Beckham's life and professional career scored him an Emmy in 2024 for outstanding documentary or non-fiction series. Beckham has been a style icon and celebrity and has been a prominent supporter of charities, including UNICEF, which created 'The David Beckham UNICEF Fund' in 2015 to mark a decade's partnership between the two. Beckham also played a pivotal role in London being awarded the Summer Olympic Games in 2012. If the knighthood is confirmed, Beckham would join an elite group of British soccer players to have been knighted, including England's 1966 World Cup winners, Geoff Hurst and Bobby Charlton, and Scotland's Kenny Dalglish. recommended in this topic

The magic of the Nations League
IT'S ALL ABOUT THE GAME In common with the fiendishly complicated lunchtime TV quiz show Turnabout that was broadcast on the BBC during the 1990s, it is possible to watch and thoroughly enjoy the Nations League without having the foggiest idea what on earth is going on. Dreamed up by Uefa several years ago to eliminate the need for the kind of pointless international friendlies that – [Football Daily checks fixture list] – are taking place across Europe this weekend, the Nations League has managed to inveigle its way into the subconscious of most football fans to the extent that they know it is A Thing, even if the vast majority of them remain completely baffled by its format and are at a loss to explain why it exists. Advertisement Of course, like an entertaining Adrian Chiles Big Website column about the wisdom of purchasing mustard shorts when you know everyone will hate them or doing a naked forward roll, not everything has to be of the weightiest significance for us purists to consider it worthwhile. And in Thursday night's Nations League semi-final between Spain and France, we were served up a bona fide treat. Described in many quarters as a nine-goal 'thriller' despite Spain having enjoyed a 4-0 and 5-1 lead, it was still a close and important enough game to prompt complaints from Kylian Mbappé about the referee's timekeeping when the official blew his final whistle seconds after France had pulled the score back to 5-4, three minutes into added time. 'When two great teams like this play you sometimes see a lot of goals,' explained Lamine Yamal who, along with the France substitute and Manchester City target Rayan Cherki, was the standout player on the pitch. 'They will make you suffer until the end but we went to the final despite the mistakes we made. We were aware of what we wanted to do. We wanted to make history. The greatest thing when you are winning is to keep winning.' Having qualified for their third successive Nations League final, Spain can look forward to an all-Iberian showdown against Portugal on Sunday night, when Lamine Yamal will come up against Cristiano Ronaldo, who won his first Premier League title with Manchester United a couple of months before the 17-year-old Spaniard was born. 'He's a football legend,' added Lamine Yamal of Ronaldo before the final at Munich's Allianz Arena. 'I have huge respect for Cristiano but I will do my job, which is to try to win.' Whether he knows what the prize is that's up for grabs in Sunday's Sphere Game remains to be seen. QUOTE OF THE DAY 'I think he went over there with a point to prove. I think he wanted to prove Manchester United wrong and prove people in the Premier League wrong. He has gone over there and done that pretty successfully. That's credit to him, credit to his attitude and his determination to be the best version of himself. Now he is a king over there' – Scotland skipper Andy Robertson hails teammate Scott McTominay after his year for the ages with Napoli. FOOTBALL DAILY LETTERS I can't be doing with the Club World Cup, and I've never had much time for narcissism's favourite goalhanger Cristiano Ronaldo (yesterday's Football Daily). But I would love it, absolutely love it, if Gianni Infantino had no option but force him to sign for Auckland City to try and wrench those coins for the bloody competition. Apologies to Auckland City goal machine Ryan De Vries for suggesting it, but sometimes annoying Ronaldo must prevail. And apologies to New Zealand if Ronaldo then has to sod off down there for a bit, but it is time for another continent to take its turn to support the weight of his ego' – Jon Millard.
