Chelsea: Liam Delap arrives from Ipswich in £30m deal as Blues eye more strikers
Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap in a £30million deal. The England Under-21 star established himself as one of the Premier League's top young players last season, scoring 12 Premier League goals in 37 appearances as the Tractor Boys were relegated, triggering his cut-price release clause. Chelsea could still add more forwards this summer as they are reportedly locked in talks to sign Eintracht Frankfurt's Hugo Ekitike. On signing, Delap said he was ready to chase silverware with Chelsea. 'Growing up watching this club, I understand the stature of it and how incredible it has been over the years,' he told Chelsea's website. 'I wanted to come here to win trophies. The hunger and desire to keep adding trophies, to take the club back to where it belongs, that is the main objective.' signed, sealed, delivered: liam delap puts pen to paper on his chelsea deal (Chelsea FC via Getty Images) The 22-year-old will provide competition for Nicolas Jackson, who struggled for consistency and suffered a 13-game goal drought last season. Delap will be reunited with Enzo Maresca for the first time since his trophy-laden days in Manchester City's academy, when the pair worked together in the club's Elite Development Squad. He scored 27 goals in 22 matches in that side, form he will hope to reignite on arrival in West London. Advertisement He also has a strong relationship with Cole Palmer. The pair are close friends and linked up in City's U18 squad, the partnership proving prolific as they won the FA Youth Cup together in 2020. He will also rejoin fellow City academy alumni Romeo Lavia and Tosin Adarabioyo, and could play alongside his England U21 teammate Jamie Gittens, who Chelsea are reportedly attempting to sign as a replacement for the departing Jadon Sancho.

Amad wants Alejandro Garnacho to stay at Manchester United
Amad has said he wants Alejandro Garnacho to remain a Manchester United player into next season because the team 'need good players'. Garnacho was told by Ruben Amorim that he should look for a new club during an address to his squad after the Europa League final, but Amad has come to his teammate's defence. Advertisement Speaking alongside Amorim in a press conference ahead of United's tour match against Hong Kong, China, Amad said: 'Alejandro is a really good player, we need good players in the team. I know Garna really well. I hope to have Garna next season. (It) is not really a big issue for the team.' Amad and Garnacho are close friends, they also share the same agent, but his support was nonetheless significant. Garnacho played the entire second half in United's first game against ASEAN All Stars, and Amorim insisted the situation with him being in Asia is fine despite the wider picture. 'It is not a surprise, he is a Manchester United player,' Amorim said. 'Some players are injured. It was better not to fly them here to play these two games. It is a normal situation (with Garnacho). It is OK.' United will come up against a Hong Kong side managed by a former academy graduate in Ashley Westwood, who won the FA Youth Cup as a teenager at Old Trafford. Westwood gave a revealing answer when asked about United's post-season journey to the other side of the world. 'Players, I have been there, just want to rest,' Westwood said. 'This trip is all about revenues, it has become a thing. Teams do end of season tours. 'I was working for MUTV in Perth on a pre-season trip. The end of season is different. Fans and sponsors pay wages. No players want to do it because they want to recover and many have internationals after that. 'They probably need this like a hole in the head. No-one says it on the record because you can't.' Westwood added: 'Only impression I want to give is that we are a professional outfit. Man United are trying to come here and put a show on. We are sparring partners. It is an exhibition game. It is a training session for us. 'My job is to make sure no-one gets carried away. We are here to help the occasion and help fans get value for money.' ()

Man Utd coach's Alejandro Garnacho comment speaks volumes as Ruben Amorim rages
Alejandro Garnacho appears destined for the Manchester United exit this summer as a former coach's comments hint the player's attitude concerns perhaps aren't new Worries over Alejandro Garnacho's attitude could land him a spot on the Manchester United departures list this summer. And one former Carrington coach appeared to hint at the South American's penchant for petulance years ago. Murmurs have been building that Ruben Amorim is ready to sell Garnacho, who was dropped for United's final game of the season against Aston Villa. The Daily Mail reported that on the eve of that fixture, Amorim hung the 20-year-old out to dry in front of his team-mates and told him: "You better pray that you can find a club to sign you." Justin Cochrane was part of the academy setup when Garnacho helped guide United's under-18s to the FA Youth Cup crown in 2022. The Argentina international was named Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year in the same season, but his temperament perhaps didn't always match his on-field performance. Cochrane, who has since moved to become first-team coach at Brentford, stopped short of hanging his former protege out to dry. But even on the path to success three years ago, there were comments pointing to potential flaws in a then-17-year-old Garnacho's character. Speaking to Goal in March 2022 about keeping the clearly talented winger grounded, Cochrane said: "I have a good relationship with Garnacho, and he knows that if he crosses the line, I'll come get him!" The former QPR and Rotherham defender paralleled that comment by saying he and his staff were "pleased" with the player. But even then, talk diverted to ensuring the player's ego remained grounded, something one might not hear unless there were already concerns in that area. "My job and the staff's job is to keep players grounded and keep their eyes on the prize," added Cochrane. "Not just the youth prize, but the bigger prize of being in the first team and having a sustained career at a high level, so that's what we're focusing on with Garna." Amorim isn't the first United boss to take issue with Garnacho's behaviour. The Madrid-born star was previously reprimanded by Erik ten Hag after he 'liked' social media posts critical of his half-time substitution in a 2-2 draw against Bournemouth last April. Ten Hag later said his player had apologised over the incident, suggesting they had moved on from the ordeal. However, Garnacho was later dropped by the Dutchman in September 2024, not long before he was fired, for once again liking posts critical of Ten Hag. Given Cochrane's comments from 2022, it points to a pattern of behaviour most coaches would rather do without. And it appears Amorim has had the last straw, with the player seemingly free to leave if a suitable offer comes in. Napoli have been strongly linked with the player in recent transfer windows. However, that move could be in jeopardy amid reports Antonio Conte is prepared to leave the club after just one season, in which he secured the Serie A crown. That could leave the Red Devils scrambling to find a suitor for the player willing to meet their valuation. And that list could only grow shorter if teams looking to invest are at all unsettled when it comes to Garnacho's personality.

Manchester City confirm exits of three assistant coaches in backroom shake-up
Lillo and Dominguez will both leave the Etihad Stadium when their contracts expire this summer, while their fellow Spaniard Vicens has been appointed head coach at Portuguese side Braga. City said in a statement that Lillo, who first arrived as manager Pep Guardiola's number two in 2020, left in summer 2022 to become head coach of Al-Sadd and then rejoined as assistant in 2023, 'expressed a desire to return home to Spain'. Dominguez was appointed when Lillo began his second spell at the club, while Vicens joined in 2017, helped lead the under-18s to FA Youth Cup glory in 2020 and has been part of Guardiola's staff for four years. City said the trio's replacements 'will be announced in due course' and added: 'Everyone at Manchester City wishes Juanma, Inigo and Carlos the very best and thanks them for their contributions to a hugely successful period for the club.' Guardiola's side ended this season without a major trophy for the first time in eight years, but secured Champions League football by finishing third behind Premier League winners Liverpool and Arsenal.

Manchester City part ways with three assistant coaches as contracts end
Manchester: Manchester City have confirmed that three of Pep Guardiola's assistant coaches — Juanma Lillo, Inigo Dominguez, and Carlos Vicens — will leave the club this summer after their contracts expired. Juanma Lillo has decided to return to Spain. He had two spells at City, first joining in 2020 and then leaving in 2022 to coach Al-Sadd in Qatar. "Assistant coaches Juanma Lillo and Inigo Dominguez will leave Manchester City upon the expiry of their contracts," the club said in a statement on Wednesday. Juanma Lillo returned to City in 2023 and worked closely with Guardiola again this season. Lillo has been an important part of Guardiola's coaching team, helping City win multiple trophies during his time at the club. Inigo Dominguez, who joined the coaching staff in 2023 alongside Lillo, will also be leaving. He worked with the team for the past two years and supported both Guardiola and the players during training and match days. Carlos Vicens is also leaving Manchester City to take up a new role as the head coach of Portuguese club S.C. Braga. Vicens joined City in 2017 and worked with the youth teams before moving up to Guardiola's senior coaching team. He helped the Under-18 side win the FA Youth Cup in 2020 and has been part of City's first-team staff for the past four years. 'Everyone at Manchester City wishes Juanma, Inigo, and Carlos the very best and thanks them for their contributions to a hugely successful period for the club," the statement further read. The club also confirmed that the replacements for the trio will be announced soon. City ended the 2024–25 season without winning any major trophies, finishing third in the Premier League behind Liverpool and Arsenal, but they still secured a place in next season's Champions League.
