Flashing Saffron leads field in Unraced Stake final at Enniscorthy greyhound stadium

From trap rise it was the Pat Buckley-trained pair Flashing Saffron (trap three) and trap four runner Open Debate both coming away fast, with the leading lights posting a flying sectional of 3.09 to ensure it was a two-runner race from that point.
Flashing had the inside line and led from her kennel mate, and she was not for passing.
As hard as Open Debate tried, Saffron was always holding him with a length between them at the line in a fast time of 28.63.
Flashing's only defeat was in round one and she was a most deserving winner.
Trap five runner Tapa Tony was again badly held up at the first bend and did extremely well to be only two and a half lengths away in third.
The night got even better for Buckley as Ballinabola Gino raced to a clearcut six lengths win as odds-on favourite in a good time of 28.87.
Another Ballinabola runner, Jake, set the fastest run of the week in race three, owned by Mary Murphy and trained by Brendan P. Murphy.
Getting away well from the outside box, Jake was in front around the opening bends.
And while trap five runner Bono Champ put in a good effort to try to get on terms down the back, Ballinabola simply powered home from off the final bend to score an impressive seven and a half lengths win in a very fast 28.52.
Thursday night belonged to Enniscorthy trainer Thomas Codd when recording a fine treble.
It started in race one where his Cushie Mystery, racing from trap one, broke well to lead.
And while trap two runner Ruby's Trinity tried to get on terms, Cushie was not stopping and ran out a snug three lengths winner in a good 29.04.
Next up was Cushie Sue (race five) as she got out well from her trap five draw to cut the bend.
Sweeping to the rail and leaving barging behind her, she ran out an easy six lengths winner.
Completing the treble was Cushie Rustic in race eight. After leaving some barging behind, he ran out a clearcut 11 lengths 29.06 winner in another night to remember for the Cushie prefix.
In Waterford on Saturday night the Carol O'Connor and Brendan Murphy (Ferns)-trained Rockmount Stella, who has been going along nicely in recent weeks, recorded another good win in a good time of 28.78.
She has won her last two starts and four of her last six starts, finishing runner-up the other two.
She is improving with every run, and this was her best run so far.

Close finishes abound in very competitive stake at Enniscorthy greyhound stadium
Right from the off, in heat one of the second round, we saw a good front-running performance from trap three runner Fairly Giddy who broke smartly to lead while chased by trap one runner Bust The Tins down the back. And while Giddy had a nice enough lead, gradually the chasing Bust The Tins closed the gap and took the rail off the final bend to deliver one last effort to catch the leader. Fairly Giddy stayed strong though to hold on by half a length and score in a good 29.03. Heat two saw another runner get out quickly to lead as Cushie Mystery, the 6/4 favourite, was chased by trap one runner Tip Top Roxy into the back. Tip Top moved to challenge Cushie at the third bend and these two fought out a good battle all the way to the line, but Cushie with the inside line dug deep to score by half a length in a fast 28.90. Heat three went to another pace-setter as trap one runner Misterin Sam went around the opening bends in front and the 6/1 shot was not for passing, fending off the challengers. In the end Sam was a snug enough three-quarters of a length winner from the running-on trap three's Ashwood News who could not go with the early pace but finished strongly. Heat four went to the even-money favourite as trap three runner Anthony's Way got away well to lead from trap six runner Ballybreen Luna who made a really good race of it to the final bends. It was at that point that Anthony's powered away to put four lengths between them at the line in a time of 29.03. This week's semi-finals promise some tight racing and it would be a brave person who could call the six finalists. Enniscorthy trainer Davy Morris continues to reel off the winners, recording another nice double. In race seven his trap five runner, Killoughrim Jet, was sent off the 6/4 favourite and punters were counting their money as he showed fine early pace to open up a nice lead down the back. However, turning for the judge his stride began to shorten and some backers were getting nervous as Killoughrim needed the line and was all out to hold the finishing run of trap six's Stripe Buddy by a neck in a time of 29.46. His second winner came in race eight, the first semi-final of the A1/2 Dual Distance Stake over the 550 yards trip. His trap six charge Bono Champ went up in front from the favourite, trap five runner Swift Ambitious, with the third-placed runner, trap one's Vinegarhill Rhys, always in that spot as they ran down the back in Indian file. Bono kept up the gallop and did enough to hold Swift by half a length in a time of 30.39. The second semi saw a much more convincing winner as trap six runner Bog Cush Cat led and missed the trouble at the opening bends to come right away to score by ten lengths in a time of 30.26. Chadwicks Wexford Park hosting Wicklow versus Waterford Tailteann Cup clash
And while it would be stretching it to apply that adjective to events about to unfold in Chadwicks Wexford Park, the novelty value is at least worthy of note. I'm referring to the national GAA fixture list for next Saturday, and the fact that our main county ground will play host to a neutral game after a gap of almost 20 years. Eyebrows were raised – albeit in a positive way – when the games were perused and it emerged that Wicklow will be meeting Waterford in their Group 2 game in the Tailteann Cup in Chadwicks Wexford Park at 6 p.m., with Dublin's Barry Tiernan the man in the middle for this third round encounter. While it's the perfect location in a geographical sense for once, the opportunities to stage such matches don't come around often in this part of the world. Being stuck in the south-east corner of the country comes with its disadvantages, unlike midlands towns such as Portlaoise and Tullamore that routinely serve as the venue for neutral encounters. By way of comparison, the last such match to take place in Wexford Park was on May 21, 2006, when Carlow defeated Wicklow by 4-9 to 0-12 in the first round of the Leinster Senior football championship. There was a time when the venue was used regularly for meetings between Kilkenny and Dublin in the Leinster Senior hurling championship, but we are rapidly approaching the 50th anniversary of the last such occurrence – on June 29, 1975 when the Cats triumphed in a semi-final by 3-16 to 1-7. The legendary Eddie Keher led the scoring stakes for the winners with 1-8, while Mick 'Cloney' Brennan and the late Liam 'Chunky' O'Brien added goals in a game refereed by Noel Matthews, the Meath-born and Enniscorthy-based Garda who has also passed to his eternal reward. An interesting name on the Dublin team at midfield was another long-time Enniscorthy resident and former St. Peter's College principal Pat Quigley, a native of Tipperary who was their joint top scorer with 0-4 along with former All Star Mick Bermingham (1-1). The curtain-raiser that day saw the Wexford Minors lose a Leinster semi-final to Dublin by 3-11 to 3-9, with the team including John 'Stella' Walker in goal, Jimmy Holohan at right half-back, John Conran at right half-forward, and Ger Flood at right corner-forward. Moving forward to that football game in 2006, the outcome prompted Wicklow manager Hugh Kenny to announce his resignation in the dressing-room afterwards. 'I told the lads that whatever match they play in the future, I'll be there to support them but the time is right to make way,' he said. 'I had made up my mind a long time ago that I'd go if we didn't beat Carlow in the championship, and I'm sticking to that.' Shane Scanlon, reporting for the 'Irish Independent' noted that: 'Wexford Park soaked up an avalanche of overnight rain, but you'd scarcely think so such was the pristine state of the sod.' Former Meath midfielder Liam Hayes was managing the Carlow side, and they were powered to victory with goals from man of the match Thomas Walsh, Alan Kelly, Simon Rea and Brian Carbery. Saturday's game is likely to attract a few curious neutral observers from Wexford, and I'm hoping that the venue will also be considered for an even bigger hurling game that may or may not happen in the coming weeks. With Kilkenny already through to the Electric Ireland All-Ireland Minor hurling championship semi-final, their opposition will be provided by Waterford if the Déise lads first overcome Limerick in Thurles on Sunday. Should that pairing arise, then Chadwicks Wexford Park would be the most suitable venue. While county HQ hasn't been used much for neutral matches in recent times, a fair share of schools, colleges, LGFA and camogie games have taken place in the likes of Gorey, Bellefield, St. Patrick's Park and New Ross. One of the most unusual saw Páirc Uí Shíocháin host Slaughtneil of Derry's victory over Sarsfields from Galway in the AIB All-Ireland Senior Club camogie semi-final three years ago. Geographically it was a bizarre choice, but it was borne out of necessity due to bad weather that had ruled out all potential locations in the northern half of the country.
