Southwest Monsoon further advanced over some more parts of North Arabian Sea

Pune, June 18 (UNI) Southwest Monsoon has further advanced over some more parts of North Arabian Sea, remaining parts of Gujarat, some parts of Rajasthan, some more parts of Madhya Pradesh, some parts of east Uttar Pradesh, remaining parts of Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand, and some more parts of Bihar.
Conditions are favourable for further advance of Southwest monsoon over remaining parts of North Arabian Sea, some more parts of Rajasthan, remaining parts of Madhya Pradesh, some more parts of Uttar Pradesh and remaining parts of Bihar, some parts of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad during next 2-3 days.
Day temperatures were markedly above normal ( > 5.1°C) at few places over Arunachal Pradesh; at isolated places over Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad; appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at isolated places over Assam and Meghalaya, Odisha, west Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.
The temperatures above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at a few places over Bihar; at isolated places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Sub Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, west Madhya Pradesh, Konkan and Goa, Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh.
The temperatures near normal (-1.5°C to 1.5°C) at many places over Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam and north interior Karnataka; at most places over east Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Telangana, Rayalaseema and Lakshadweep; at a few places over
Andaman and Nicobar Islands, west Rajasthan, east Madhya Pradesh, coastal Karnataka and Kerala and Mahe; at isolated places over Gangetic West Bengal and south interior Karnataka.
On Tuesday, the highest maximum temperature of 42.8°C was reported at Orai (Uttar pradesh).
The Southwest Monsoon has been vigorous over Jharkhand, Gujarat Region, Saurashtra and Kutch and active over Gangetic West Bengal. It has been subdued over Marathwada, coastal
Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Rain or thundershowers have occurred at most places in Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Gujarat Region, Konkan and Goa, coastal Karnataka and Kerala and at many places in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Sub Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Odisha, Bihar, west Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, east Rajasthan, Saurashtra and Kutch, south interior Karnataka, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep and at a few places in east Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, east Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Maharashtra and at isolated places in Punjab, Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh, west Rajasthan, west Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Marathwada, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Rayalseema, Tamil Nadu and north interior Karnataka.
Following observations for the past 24 hrs were recorded at 0830 hrs on Wednesday.

Weather Today: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted heavy rains in Jharkhand today and has issued a red alert warning for the state. The weather agency predicted that Southwest monsoon will advance further over some parts of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu-Kashmir today or tomorrow amid favourable weather conditions. 'Extremely heavy rainfall (>20 cm/24 hours) likely at isolated places over Jharkhand on 19th June,' IMD said. 'Very heavy rainfall' is likely in Goa, West Bengal, Odisha, Maharashtra and Rajasthan on June 19. IMD's latest weather bulletin states, 'Light/moderate rainfall at many/most places accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning and isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall likely to continue over Northeast India' over the coming 6 days. Besides this, hot and humid weather conditions will prevail 'in isolated pockets of Tamil Nadu' on 19, in Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Rayalaseema until June 22.

June 18 is the normal date of arrival for the monsoon in UP. Conditions are favourable for its further advancement into the state over the next 2-3 days. The Indian Meteorological Department said the monsoon brought light to moderate rains in Sonbhadra, Jhansi and Lalitpur. The weatherman has predicted that the monsoon will enter southern UP and cover the eastern part in the next 2-3 days and then central UP. The Northern Limit of the monsoon passed through Barmer, Jodhpur, Jaipur in Rajasthan, Gwalior and Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh, entering in Sonbhadra UP and Gaya in Bihar. He said timely monsoon showers in southern UP brought relief from hot and humid weather. The humidity levels are expected to remain high during this period. Rains likely in Lucknow over 3 days The weather office has said there is possibility of rains in Lucknow over the next three days. June 23 is the normal date of monsoon arrival in Lucknow and monsoon may reach the city on time. Some parts of the city received pre-monsoon showers on Wednesday. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be around 36.4 degrees Celsius, 1.6 degrees below normal, and 26.8 degrees Celsius, respectively, on Thursday.

Jaipur: The Southwest monsoon arrived early in Rajasthan on Wednesday, reaching the state seven days before its onset date last year. The early arrival saw mild to moderate showers at various places in Jaipur, Bikaner, Udaipur, and Kota divisions of the state. The Met office, while confirming the onset of the monsoon, said that this year's rainfall would be higher, with an increase of almost 10% compared to 2024. Kaman in Bharatpur received a rainfall of 100mm, the highest in the state. The Jaipur Met office said that in 2024, the monsoon arrived on June 25, and its widespread activity began by July 28. Rainfall was witnessed at many places in Udaipur, Dungarpur, Banswara, Sirohi, Jalore, Barmer, Pali, Rajsamand, Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, Jhalawar, Baran, Jaipur, Ajmer, Sawai Madhopur, and Dholpur. "On its first day, the monsoon has already covered 50% of the state, and in the next couple of days, it will progress further. It appears that in the next three to four days, it will cover the entire Rajasthan," said a city Met department official. By evening, Jaipur recorded a rainfall of almost 45mm. Many localities in the city experienced waterlogging and intermittent rains. "Mild to moderate showers will continue in Jaipur on Thursday," said the official. The Met office said that Kota and Udaipur divisions are likely to get heavy rainfall in the next few days. "The monsoon arrived early, and it appears that it will cover the entire state in the next few days," said Radhey Shyam Sharma, director, Met office, Jaipur. The Met office also expects 10% extra rainfall this year. "In 2024, the average monsoon rainfall was 624mm in Rajasthan, and this year it will be 10% higher," the official said.
