Orlando Pride finalizing record deal with Tigres for Lizbeth Ovalle, AP source says
The deal is expected to be completed by the National Women's Soccer League's transfer deadline on Monday. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the agreement had not yet been formally signed.
The transfer fee surpasses the $1.3 million fee Arsenal paid Liverpool for Canadian striker Olivia Smith in the English Women's Super League last month. That broke the previous record fee of $1.1 million that Chelsea paid the San Diego Wave for defender Naomi Girma in January.
Ovalle, a 25-year-old winger, has led the Tigres of Liga MX Femenil to six titles since joining the club in 2017. She is the team's all-time leading scorer with 136 goals.
She's also made 58 appearances for the Mexican national team with 20 goals.
Nicknamed La Maga (The Magician), Ovalle went viral on social media this year with a so-called 'scorpion kick' goal, only facing away from the net, in a Tigres match against Guadalajara.

Last season, Birmingham shattered the League One transfer record for Jay Stansfield for £20m. This summer Wrexham spent £10m on Nathan Broadhead and £8m on Callum Doyle from Manchester City. Liverpool will have a price for Koumas and it will be around that figure. The ECHO claims that Liverpool value Koumas at a higher price than Bobby Clark, who joined Red Bull Salzburg for £10m last season. The Reds are very good at selling players on for a profit and if Birmingham or Wrexham come in with an offer for Koumas as the ECHO claim they are preparing to do, it will be difficult to refuse. Especially if it's in excess of £10m, something both team is capable of paying given their financial backing. For that price, Liverpool will be making a very healthy profit on a player who has a lot of potential but who doesn't have a clear pathway into the first team at the moment.
