PARK TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Deputies are asking the public for help finding a missing Park Township mother, her three children and their dog who were last seen in Indiana.
On Thursday, deputies with the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office began investigating the suspicious disappearance of 50-year-old Michelle Lynn Olszewski and her three children, ages 14, 10 and 8, after Olszewski removed her children from school the day before and left the state. Her rental car and belongings were found at a hotel in Indiana.
The sheriff's office said it is working with the Mishawaka Police Department to find Olszewski, her children and their dog, Lambchop. Lambchop is a Shiba Inu breed, medium-sized and golden brown with some white coloring.
'They did find evidence that Michelle may be mentally unstable at this time and has a history of mental instability,' the sheriff's department said in a release.
Olszewski and her children have not been seen at or near the Indiana hotel since Thursday. The sheriff's office said they do not have a known source of transportation.
Anyone with information is asked to call Ottawa County Central Dispatch at 1.800.249.0911 or Silent Observer at 877.887.4536.

Racist slur spray painted on apartment building near Holland

HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — People living in an apartment complex near Holland said they woke up to quite the surprise over the weekend. Black spray paint, including a racist slur and an inappropriate image of genitalia, were still visible on the building and surrounding fence off in Holland Township on Wednesday afternoon. Daniel Garcia Simo, who lives in the building, told News 8 that it happened sometime between Saturday and Sunday. At first, Garcia Simo said he only saw the thick black lines sprayed on the garages. His wife called the police and when they came to take a report, they showed him the derogatory word written on the side of the building. When asked if he was afraid of the meaning behind the offensive word, Garcia Simo, who only spoke Spanish, said he was not afraid, but that he didn't like it. He added that graffiti is one thing, but when it's on people's homes, it's inconvenient and makes people angry. Another woman who lives in the building but did not want to be named said there are four units and that no African Americans live in the complex. She added that she's lived there for six years and that nothing like this has ever happened. A representative with Waveland Property Management told News 8 over the phone that the police have been notified, but that they don't have a timeline for how quickly the graffiti will be cleaned up. The employee estimated that they've been managing this property for over 10 years and that they're also not aware of anything like this happening before. A spokesperson for the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office noted the incident could be investigated as a hate crime, alongside malicious destruction of property. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Driver arrested after woman injured in crash in Allendale

ALLENDALE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A woman was seriously injured and a man arrested after a crash in Allendale Monday. It happened a little after 11:30 p.m. in front of the Allendale Township Fire station on Lake Michigan Drive east of 68th Avenue. The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office says a deputy happened to be nearby and heard the crash happen, quickly radioing it back to dispatch. Deputies say witnesses told them an eastbound Honda Civic was going at 'very high speeds' before the driver lost control, hit the curb and then crashed into a power pole. The car was split into two pieces. A passenger, a 25-year-old woman from Grand Rapids, was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries to the face. The driver, a 25-year-old Grand Rapids man, also needed treatment at the hospital for injuries that were not life-threatening. He was arrested at the scene of the crash, though deputies did not explain in a Tuesday morning release what charges he might face. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
