IHW 2025 Set To Attract 900 Exhibitors, Surpassing MATRADE's Target

KUALA LUMPUR, May 29 (Bernama) -- The upcoming International Healthcare Week (IHW) 2025 is set to break new records with over 900 local, regional, and international exhibitors, well above the initial target of 750 set by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE).
The IHW will be held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre from July 16 to 18.
MATRADE chairman Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican announced that the event is also expected to attract more than 21,000 visitors from 26 countries, featuring a wide array of healthcare products, from pharmaceutical ingredients to clinical laboratory instruments.
'This will be the largest healthcare trade show in Southeast Asia,' he said in his opening remarks at the official launch of IHW 2025, here today.
At the press conference, ASEAN Informa Markets regional portfolio director Rungphech Chitanuwat said that the surge in exhibitor participation reflects a growing international interest in Malaysia's healthcare sector, particularly in pharmaceuticals.
'The government facilitates market access and creates opportunities for international traders by evaluating and approving medicines from abroad.
'This has attracted the attention of international players in the pharmaceutical sector. When it comes to medical devices and laboratory equipment, I believe Malaysians should be proud as the country is emerging as a leader in medical tourism and hospital services,' she added.
Chitanuwat noted that the growth in hospital services reflects rising demand for medical devices and equipment, which in turn fuels the overall expansion of the healthcare sector.
MATRADE deputy chief executive of export acceleration Abu Bakar Yusof said the main economic impact of the exhibition would be in the business-to-business (B2B) segment.

Close shave for 16 people involved in six-vehicle crash in Bidor
IPOH: Sixteen people, including four children, cheated death in a six-vehicle crash at Km341.5 of the southbound lane of the North-South Expressway (NSE) near Bidor tonight. Perak Fire and Rescue Department operations division assistant director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said a team from Bidor Fire and Rescue Station rushed to the location 15 kilometres away after the department received a distress call at 7.26 pm. "The crash involved five cars and a five-ton lorry carrying fish, and there were no victims stuck or with serious injuries, only dizziness and trauma. "The accident is believed to have happened when the lorry could not brake in time and hit the Proton Exora, which then hit the other cars," he said in a statement tonight. Eight men, including an Arab man driving the Proton Exora, along with four women and four children were involved in the crash, he said. The four victims who suffered trauma and dizziness were taken to hospital by ambulance for further treatment and operations ended at 8.20 pm. KK Takes Off To Japan Via Taipei As AirAsia Widens Reach
AirAsia Malaysia will launch a new fifth-freedom route connecting Kota Kinabalu to Fukuoka, Japan, via Taipei, with daily flights beginning Aug 15, 2025. The move is part of the airline's continued expansion of its Kota Kinabalu hub, which will operate 79 weekly flights to 13 international destinations from mid-August. The new route also provides an additional travel option for Malaysians flying to Japan, supplementing the existing Kuala Lumpur–Fukuoka route via Don Mueang operated by Thai AirAsia. Since reinstating the Kota Kinabalu–Taipei route three years ago, over 130,000 passengers have flown the sector. WORLD number one doubles pair Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Mohd Rumsani had to sweat it out to advance to the second round of the Indonesia Open after defeating Taiwan's Fang Chih Lee-Fang Jen Lee. In the match held at Istora Senayan, Jakarta, the Malaysian professional duo came from a set down, losing the first 17-21, to win the next two sets 21-17, 21-14.
