We hit 83 in our Raiders countdown to kickoff. Who wore it best and who's wearing it now
We've reached 83 days until the Raiders season opener at Foxboro against the Patriots, With our countdown at 83 days we take a look at who currently dons the number in Silver & Black and who has brought it the most distinction.
No. 83
Who's wearing it now: WR Key'Shawn Smith
Smith is an undrafted rookie out of SMU. The 5-11, 187-pound receiver started his college career at Miami before transferring to SMU after his junior season. He saw his numbers go up each of the past three seasons, culminating in 33 catches for 527 yards and five touchdowns as a fifth-year senior.
Who wore it best: OLB Ted Hendricks
The Mad Stork spent the final nine years of his 15-year NFL career in Silver & Black. Probably not coincidentally, the Raiders won all three Super Bowls in his time with the team. Two of those years he was named a first team All Pro. In his career, he earned four Super Bowl rings, was a four-time All Pro, eight-time Pro Bowler, and was a member of BOTH the All-70s and All-80s Hall of Fame teams.

Jonnu Smith's agent updates contract talks with Dolphins
In a Sunday appearance on WSVN 7's Sports Xtra, Jonnu Smith's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, shared an update on the ongoing contract discussions. Rosenhaus described the negotiations as "still fluid." "Nothing has been resolved yet. It's still an ongoing situation. I would say that it will be resolved I think by training camp, but it's still very active right now and nothing has been finalized at this juncture," Rosenhaus said. Advertisement Dolphins training camp will open next month at the Baptist Health Training Complex in Miami Gardens. Despite the ongoing contract dispute and his recent holdout from mandatory minicamp, Rosenhaus has said previously that Smith's "dream team" is the Dolphins. "Here's what I will say on behalf of my client: Jonnu would definitely like to stay in Miami. That's his first choice. This is where he lives in the offseason. He had a record-breaking season last year. It was the best season ever for a Miami Dolphin tight end. "His dream team is the Dolphins. Hopefully, everything works out where he can stay in Miami," Rosenhaus told the Miami Herald of Smith on June 1. Advertisement While Smith has been involved in Miami trade discussions with the Pittsburgh Steelers, there remains optimism that Smith and the Dolphins can iron down a contract extension that satisfies both sides. Smith is currently set to enter the 2025 season on the back half of a two-year, $8.4 million contract that he signed with the Dolphins in March of last year. Smith set single-season Dolphins franchise records for a tight end in receptions (88), receiving yards (884) and touchdowns (8). Miami quarterback Tua Tagovailoa shared his stance on whether or not the Dolphins should pay Smith during minicamp. "Oh 100%, that's my guy. That's my dog. Jonnu has done really good for us. I have nothing bad to say about him. I love him as a person, too, outside of football. I think all of our guys that do what they need to do, they should get paid," Tagovailoa said last week. Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes Has No Words for Historic CWS Feat
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is one of the best players in the NFL. He is also going to go down as one of the best quarterbacks to ever play the game. While he has made his name from playing football, Mahomes is a big-time fan of other sports. He is always seen attending other sporting events or commenting on them. That was the case once again on Monday as he watched the College World Series. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes #15 of the Kansas City Chiefs speaks to the media during the press conference interviews after the Kansas City Chiefs OTAs at The University of Kansas Health System Training Complex on May... Quarterback Patrick Mahomes #15 of the Kansas City Chiefs speaks to the media during the press conference interviews after the Kansas City Chiefs OTAs at The University of Kansas Health System Training Complex on May 29, 2025 in Kansas City, Missouri. Read more: NFL World Reacts to Stunning New Take on Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes Throughout the course of the game, he recorded 19 strikeouts and a no-hitter. He now holds the record for strikeouts in a nine-inning game and recorded the third no-hitter in men's College World Series history. In response to the impressive performance, Mahomes took to social media to share a response. His response didn't even include words. When Mahomes speaks, people listen and take notice. Even in something as small as a reaction to a moment in a game, his words matter. Mahomes is in the middle of gearing up for the 2025 NFL season. After the Chiefs made it to the Super Bowl and lost last year to the Philadelphia Eagles, they're looking to get back to winning rings. They have extra motivation following the blowout loss to the Eagles. On the outside looking in, Kansas City looks like a top-tier contender. Mahomes has a lot of weapons to work with and Travis Kelce decided to come back for another season despite rumors about his potential retirement. Last season, Mahomes completed 67.5 percent of his pass attempts for 3,928 yards, 26 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. He also ran for 307 yards and two more scores. They also weren't where Mahomes would have wanted them to be, especially with the season ending in a Super Bowl loss. It's clear that Mahomes is enjoying what's left of his offseason and the College World Series, but football will soon take center stage. Hopefully for Mahomes and the Chiefs, another run to the Super Bowl will be in store in 2025 and will end in a different result from last season. Rams offense ranked just outside top-10 ahead of 2025 NFL season
Rams offense ranked just outside top-10 ahead of 2025 NFL season The Los Angeles Rams brought back a mostly intact offense for the 2025 NFL season. The trio of Matthew Stafford, Puka Nacua and Kyren Williams remain the figureheads, while the offensive line is still sound except new starting center Coleman Shelton, who returned to the team after a few years away. The biggest difference will be the addition of Davante Adams for Cooper Kupp. It's never easy to replace a veteran legend, but Adams is one of the best receivers in the business and can elevate so many levels of the offense. Oh, and the team also drafted tight end Terrance Ferguson and running back Jarquez Hunter for even more depth. Even with so much offensive juice, Pro Football Network's Kyle Soppe ranked the Rams' offense No. 11 heading into the season based on their combination of "yards per play, points per drive, turnover percentage, success rate against the run and pass, third-down conversion rate, red-zone efficiency, pressure percentage when not blitzing, and various expected points added (EPA) measures against both the run and pass.." Here's why: "Matthew Stafford's decision to return gives the Los Angeles Rams hope of a third straight top-12 finish after bottoming out in the first season sans Kevin O'Connell (2022 ranking: 25th). Cooper Kupp has been replaced by Davante Adams, and that's probably an upgrade given what we saw from the former down the stretch last season, but this passing game revolves around Puka Nacua. "The 24-year-old out of BYU has racked up 2,476 yards in his 28 NFL games and was last seen earning 14 targets in a playoff game against the eventual Super Bowl champions. If Nacua can etch his name into the top tier at the position (Adams has been there and should serve as a nice mentor), asking Stafford to pile up the yards for yet another season isn't crazy. "And with the balance provided by a deep RB room, a top-10 finish is certainly in play." Basically, it will all come down to if all the pieces fit together nicely for L.A. They have the group to finish as one of the better units in the NFL, but it's no guarantee they will with an aging quarterback, young star and older veteran at receiver.
