Reports: S Jamal Adams signing with Las Vegas Raiders
July 22 - Three-time All-Pro safety Jamal Adams signed with the Las Vegas Raiders on Tuesday, reuniting with former Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll. Adams, 29, was once one of the league's premier safeties, making three consecutive All-Pro teams from 2018-2020 with the New York Jets and Seahawks. Since 2020, when he was named to the All-Pro Second Team with Seattle, Adams has struggled to stay healthy. The LSU product has played 27 games (25 starts) in the four seasons since, appearing in only five games (three starts) last year with the Titans and Lions. He has recorded four interceptions, 36 passes defended and 501 total tackles in 85 career games (83 starts) for the Jets (2017-19), Seahawks (2020-23), Tennessee (2024) and Detroit (2024). --Field Level Media

Tyrann Mathieu announces retirement from the NFL after 12 seasons
One of the best of his generation is calling it a career. Three-time All-Pro safety Tyrann Mathieu announced in a post on his Instagram page that he is retiring from the NFL. The 33-year-old defensive back was entering his fourth season with the New Orleans Saints but won't step onto the field this year. "As I hang up my cleats, I'm filled with gratitude as I close this chapter of my life and officially retire from the game that's shaped me in every way," Mathieu wrote in his announcement. "From my first snap in college to my final play in the NFL, this journey has been nothing short of a blessing. Football gave me purpose, discipline, and memories that will stay with me forever. But more than anything, it gave me a community." Mathieu was drafted in the third round, 69th overall by the Arizona Cardinals in the 2013 NFL Draft. A Heisman finalist at LSU in 2011, he slid to the third round due to off-field concerns following his dismissal from LSU in 2012. He ended up a steal for the Cardinals and finished fourth in Defensive Rookie of the Year voting in 2013. In 2015, he made his first All-Pro team as the Cardinals made the NFC championship game. He spent five seasons with the Cardinals and played well alongside standout cornerback Patrick Peterson. Arizona released him in 2018 and he signed with the Houston Texans for one season before signing a multi-year deal with the Chiefs in 2019. Mathieu was part of the Chiefs Super Bowl-winning team in 2019 and made his second All-Pro team that season. He made his third a year later with the Chiefs in 2020. Kansas City did not retain him after the 2021 season and he made his way back to Louisiana to play for his hometown New Orleans Saints. He started every game for New Orleans from 2022 through 2024. "To every coach who believed in me, every teammate who battled beside me, and every fan who showed up, cheered, and rode with me through the highs and lows, thank you," Mathieu wrote in his announcement. "You gave me strength when I needed it most, and your love carried me farther than I ever imagined." He did tease that he's not done with football yet, writing "this isn't goodbye - it's just the next chapter." Myles Garrett beats out T.J. Watt as NFL's No. 1 edge rusher, AP vote finds
Myles Garrett is a four-time All-Pro, the 2023 NFL Defensive Player of the Year and the only player to register 14 sacks in four straight seasons. His dominant stretch earned him the No. 1 edge rusher spot Thursday in a preseason survey by The Associated Press. A panel of eight AP Pro Football Writers ranked the top five players at the position, basing selections on current status entering the 2025 season. First-place votes were worth 10 points. Second through fifth-place votes were worth 5, 3, 2 and 1 points. Garrett received five first-place votes, two seconds and one third. Trey Hendrickson got two first-place votes and Micah Parsons received the other. T.J. Watt finished second overall, one point ahead of Parsons. Hendrickson came in fourth and Nick Bosa finished fifth. Nik Bonitto, Aidan Hutchinson, Kyle Van Noy and Maxx Crosby also received votes. Garrett has been a dominant presence for Cleveland's defense over his first eight seasons. He became the youngest player in NFL history to reach 100 sacks last season when he finished with 14. Garrett finished third in voting for Defensive Player of the Year, earned his fourth All-Pro spot and sixth Pro Bowl trip. The Browns made him the highest-paid edge rusher in NFL history, giving him a $160 million, four-year deal. Watt, the 2021 NFL Defensive Player of the Year, was named to his seventh Pro Bowl after registering 11 1/2 sacks, a league-leading six forced fumbles, 27 quarterback hits and 19 tackles for loss. He was a second-team All-Pro after making first team four times. Watt received four second-place votes, three thirds and one fifth. Despite missing four games, Parsons had 12 sacks in 13 games and earned his fourth straight Pro Bowl trip. The two-time All-Pro has been one of the most dynamic pass rushers in the NFL since the Cowboys selected him 12th overall in 2021. Parsons has at least 12 sacks in each season. He's due to get a new contract that will likely surpass Garrett's. Parsons received two second-place votes, one third and three fourths to go with the one first. Hendrickson led the NFL with 17 1/2 sacks last season after registering 17 1/2 in 2023. He was a first-team All-Pro and made the Pro Bowl for the fourth straight year. Hendrickson has sought a new contract from the Bengals throughout the offseason. He got one third-place vote, two fourths and one fifth to go with two firsts. Bosa had nine sacks in 14 games last season, earning his fifth Pro Bowl appearance. The 2022 NFL Defensive Player of the Year has 53 1/2 sacks over the past four seasons. He received one third-place vote, one fourth and two fifths.
