Mass. brothers charged with firearm, drug offenses
BOSTON (WWLP) – Two brothers from Lynn were arrested and charged last Thursday in connection with firearm and drug distribution crimes.
The charging documents stated that in 2024, 38-year-old Maurice Bennett was identified by law enforcement as a member of the Bloods street gang in Lynn. Maurice also had prior convictions for violent crimes related to firearms.

Investigators were able to intercept text messages between Maurice and his brother, 29-year-old Meliek Bennett, in which they allegedly coordinated the distribution of drugs such as marijuana, counterfeit pills, prescription medication, and cocaine. The messages also allegedly discussed sharing drug customers and supplies, and taking a trip to New Hampshire to sell substances there together.
In September 2024, investigators obtained a recorded conversation in which Meliek allegedly said that he planned to use a silenced pistol to shoot up a drug supplier's residence and potentially murder the supplier. Meliek said through texts with Maurice and on the recording that he owed the drug supplier a debt after the supplier had beaten him up.
Shortly afterward, officers executed a search warrant at Meliek's residence in Lynn, where they located a .22 caliber pistol with a threaded barrel and ammunition. They also found fentanyl tablets, oxycodone, gabapentin, and marijuana.
Meliek and Maurice were charged last Thursday by criminal complaint with conspiracy to distribute controlled substances. Meliek was also charged with possession of controlled substances with intent to distribute, and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
The brothers will be sentenced at a later date and could face up to 20 years in prison and at least five years of supervised release.

Mass. man arrested following deadly crash in November
HAMPTON, N.H. (WWLP) – A New Bedford man has been arrested in connection with driving in the wrong direction on I-95 in New Hampshire and causing a deadly crash in Massachusetts. New Hampshire State Police shared in a news release that 40-year-old Keoma Duarte of New Bedford, Mass. was arrested last Wednesday following an ongoing investigation into reckless driving and a deadly crash in November of 2024. Sidewalks to close Monday for repairs in Pittsfield On November 27, New Hampshire state troopers observed a Tesla driving southbound in the northbound lanes of I-95 in Hampton. Troopers coordinated with members of the Massachusetts State Police as the suspect continued driving into Mass. It was later discovered that Duarte was involved in a two-vehicle crash. The crash resulted in the death of 49-year-old Jeremy Cole of Exeter, New Hampshire. Duarte was also injured during the accident and was brought to a Boston hospital to be treated for serious injuries. New Hampshire troopers investigating the incident determined that Duarte had initially been driving northbound on I-95 before pulling into the NH Liquor & Wine Outlet parking lot. The outlet was closed at the time, and Duarte was seen through surveillance leaving the lot and entering the road in the wrong direction. On May 28, Massachusetts State Police notified New Hampshire troopers that Duarte had been arrested due to his outstanding arrest warrant. On Tuesday, Duarte was brought to New Hampshire and held at the Rockingham County Department of Corrections. Duarte was charged with two felony counts of reckless conduct and one misdemeanor count of disobeying an officer. He was arraigned in Hampton District Court on Wednesday. Georgetown County traffic stop leads to large drug seizure, authorities say
GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — A Myrtle Beach man was arrested Friday afternoon after a traffic stop on Highway 17 led authorities to a large drug seizure, the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office said. Chasen Davis was charged with possession with intent to distribute narcotics multiple times and remains in custody at the Georgetown County Detention Center. During a traffic stop near Wachesaw Road, deputies noticed a strong marijuana odor coming from the car. A search yielded 2.75 pounds of marijuana, 42 THC vapes, 9.82 grams of cocaine, 1.02 grams of ketamine, 19.44 grams of mushrooms, 13 doses of hydrocodone, 11 does of Oxycodone, 38 does of clonazepam and $3,330 in cash. * * * Adam Benson joined the News13 digital team in January 2024. North Adams man sentenced to prison for assaulting child
PITTSFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A North Adams man pleaded guilty to five charges involving assaulting a child in Berkshire Superior Court on Thursday. Springfield man sentenced to life for 2021 Chicopee murder Berkshire District Attorney's Office Chief of Operations Julia Sabourin shared in a news release that in 2022, 37-year-old Jesriel Morales of North Adams allegedly assaulted a six-year-old child. Morales reportedly slammed the child into a window and wall, hit them with a belt, slapped them, and forced them to kneel on dried rice. On Thursday, Morales pleaded guilty to three counts of Aggravated Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon on a Child and two counts of Assault and Battery. He was sentenced to two and a half years in the Berkshire House of Corrections, followed by two years of probation. Morales was also ordered by the judge to have no contact with the victim and to participate in the Fatherhood program. 'I am pleased with the guilty plea,' said Berkshire District Attorney Timothy Shugrue. 'Jesriel Morales preyed on the most innocent member of society. Today, my thoughts are with the very young victim. I hope this conclusion provides them some peace and feeling of safety and security.'
