Springfield man sentenced to life for 2021 Chicopee murder
Berkshire District Attorney's Office Chief of Operations Julia Sabourin shared in a news release that in 2022, 37-year-old Jesriel Morales of North Adams allegedly assaulted a six-year-old child. Morales reportedly slammed the child into a window and wall, hit them with a belt, slapped them, and forced them to kneel on dried rice.
On Thursday, Morales pleaded guilty to three counts of Aggravated Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon on a Child and two counts of Assault and Battery. He was sentenced to two and a half years in the Berkshire House of Corrections, followed by two years of probation.
Morales was also ordered by the judge to have no contact with the victim and to participate in the Fatherhood program.
'I am pleased with the guilty plea,' said Berkshire District Attorney Timothy Shugrue. 'Jesriel Morales preyed on the most innocent member of society. Today, my thoughts are with the very young victim. I hope this conclusion provides them some peace and feeling of safety and security.'

Hundreds mourn Atlanta father of 20 killed outside Greyhound station

"Seeing everybody come out as one big community was really nice, and we really appreciate all the extra support because we're gonna need it," said Sha'Miracle Brown, one of Reaves' daughters. Saturday's service was filled with music—something fitting for Reaves, whose brother described him as a "dancing machine." "I think dancing and singing was his safe space," said D'Ana Reaves, another one of Reaves' daughters. "Oh and his laugh, he would just go on and on." "My dad was like a crazy dancer, but I will always remember the music standpoint. Because some of us make music, all of us are musically inclined, some of us play instruments. So my dad passed that musical gene down to all of us," said Brown. "He loved his kids. You could ask anyone, any single person, and they would say we were his pride and joy. I don't think there's a room we could walk into that he did not mention us or our accomplishments or our accolades." What's next Reaves' brother, Deoinetea Hightower, said the family plans to start a foundation in Reaves' name to help ensure all of his children are cared for—and to help fathers get off the streets and turn their lives around. "We're fixing to open up the D'Anthony Reaves foundation so we'll be able to serve his kids so they'll be taken care of," Hightower said. "We got the Power for the Fathers represented for him as well, where we help the fathers get off the street and get their lives back together." The family also wants to see change at the State Capitol. "Greyhound? I'm working on trying to get them to stop their policy of letting guns be carried across state lines…and we want Governor Kemp to come on with the gun law, close it back. Sprecher/AP What To Know Police were called to the Motel 6 in the 12700 block of LBJ Freeway just after 5 a.m. on June 20 for reports of a shooting, according to the Garland Police Department. Officers found Morales with a gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital, where he later died, Fox 4 reported. Four witnesses who arrived with Morales were interviewed at the scene. One woman told police she had been robbed earlier and that Morales began messaging the suspects while posing as a prostitute to set up a meeting at Motel 6, according to the arrest affidavit obtained by Fox 4. Surveillance footage shows a pickup carrying Morales arriving at the motel around 4:21 a.m., followed by a Toyota and a gray Acura, according to the outlet. Just after 5 a.m., Morales confronted a man from the Toyota, leading to a struggle. A second suspect arrived and shot Morales, while the third suspect, driving the Acura, pulled up to the scene before all three fled in the Acura and Toyota, Fox 4 reported. Morales was left motionless and bleeding. Two women from the pickup approached his body. One appeared to call 911. The first officer arrived at 5:19 a.m. and began first aid, according to Fox 4.
