ATMOS Energy partners with Jones Elementary through Partners in Education
Feb. 11—MIDLAND — The Midland Education Foundation announces its first partnership with the new Partners in Education program, as ATMOS Energy became the official partner for Jones Elementary School.
Partners in Education was an initiative created by the Midland Chamber of Commerce and is now operated by the Midland Education Foundation. The Midland Education Foundation aims to expand its reach and impact, ensuring that MISD students and staff across 39 campuses are supported and connected to the greater Midland community, including this partnership with ATMOS.
ATMOS Energy's willingness to connect and support Jones Elementary School allows the campus to fulfill needs outside campus budgets and support its literacy initiative through a book vending machine donation.
"Our partnership with ATMOS Energy has tremendously impacted our campus' use of innovative tools to encourage student literacy. Many of the students that Jones serves have limited access to books," Tanya Duewall, Principal of Jones Elementary, said in a news release. "The book vending machine will help bridge the gap by providing books directly to students to ensure they have individual reading materials at home. This interactive and engaging book vending machine makes book selection exciting, increases student motivation to read, improves literacy skills, and ultimately fosters a life-long love of reading."
Jones Elementary, home of the Tornadoes, serves nearly 500 students from Pre-K through 6th grade. The partnership with ATMOS Energy will assist the school in showcasing its achievements while working together to provide enrichment opportunities for all of their students and support the staff.
"Community service is a fundamental element of our culture," said Andrea Goodson, Public Affairs Manager for ATMOS Energy. "Because our employees live, work, and play in the communities we serve, they take great pride in being good neighbors."
In total, six campuses currently have a designated Partner in Education. Through PIE, businesses are invited to adopt a campus by supporting campus needs, teacher appreciation, and student initiatives that fall outside of campus budgets. Campuses without a community partner or PTA to help fill these gaps often have high teacher turnover and low campus culture. PIE also allows organizations to connect to special projects across the district through the gift of volunteering, gifts in kind, or designated monetary gifts which in turn provide campuses with the essential programs and activities that are vital to a well-rounded education.
Businesses and individuals interested in becoming a Partner in Education are encouraged to contact Lauren Hopkins, Community Connections Coordinator at Midland ISD. ([email protected])

Are You Looking for a Top Momentum Pick? Why Atmos Energy (ATO) is a Great Choice
Momentum investing is all about the idea of following a stock's recent trend, which can be in either direction. In the 'long' context, investors will essentially be "buying high, but hoping to sell even higher." And for investors following this methodology, taking advantage of trends in a stock's price is key; once a stock establishes a course, it is more than likely to continue moving in that direction. The goal is that once a stock heads down a fixed path, it will lead to timely and profitable trades. While many investors like to look for momentum in stocks, this can be very tough to define. There is a lot of debate surrounding which metrics are the best to focus on and which are poor quality indicators of future performance. The Zacks Momentum Style Score, part of the Zacks Style Scores, helps address this issue for us. Below, we take a look at Atmos Energy (ATO), a company that currently holds a Momentum Style Score of B. We also talk about price change and earnings estimate revisions, two of the main aspects of the Momentum Style Score. It's also important to note that Style Scores work as a complement to the Zacks Rank, our stock rating system that has an impressive track record of outperformance. Atmos Energy currently has a Zacks Rank of #2 (Buy). Our research shows that stocks rated Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy) and #2 (Buy) and Style Scores of A or B outperform the market over the following one-month period. You can see the current list of Zacks #1 Rank Stocks here >>> Let's discuss some of the components of the Momentum Style Score for ATO that show why this natural gas utility shows promise as a solid momentum pick. Looking at a stock's short-term price activity is a great way to gauge if it has momentum, since this can reflect both the current interest in a stock and if buyers or sellers have the upper hand at the moment. It is also useful to compare a security to its industry, as this can help investors pinpoint the top companies in a particular area. For ATO, shares are up 2.12% over the past week while the Zacks Utility - Gas Distribution industry is up 1.06% over the same time period. Shares are looking quite well from a longer time frame too, as the monthly price change of 5.53% compares favorably with the industry's 4.23% performance as well. While any stock can see a spike in price, it takes a real winner to consistently outperform the market. Over the past quarter, shares of Atmos Energy have risen 9.11%, and are up 36.42% in the last year. On the other hand, the S&P 500 has only moved -5.82% and 9.94%, respectively. Investors should also take note of ATO's average 20-day trading volume. Volume is a useful item in many ways, and the 20-day average establishes a good price-to-volume baseline; a rising stock with above average volume is generally a bullish sign, whereas a declining stock on above average volume is typically bearish. Right now, ATO is averaging 1,224,156 shares for the last 20 days. The Zacks Momentum Style Score also takes into account trends in estimate revisions, in addition to price changes. Please note that estimate revision trends remain at the core of Zacks Rank as well. A nice path here can help show promise, and we have recently been seeing that with ATO. Over the past two months, 3 earnings estimates moved higher compared to none lower for the full year. These revisions helped boost ATO's consensus estimate, increasing from $7.18 to $7.21 in the past 60 days. Looking at the next fiscal year, 3 estimates have moved upwards while there have been no downward revisions in the same time period. Given these factors, it shouldn't be surprising that ATO is a #2 (Buy) stock and boasts a Momentum Score of B. If you're looking for a fresh pick that's set to soar in the near-term, make sure to keep Atmos Energy on your short list. Want the latest recommendations from Zacks Investment Research?
