Sunshine Coast trainer Shaun Dwyer puts a Dragonne Rouge victory in the 2025 Calaway Gal Stakes at the top of his birthday list
The Group 1 -winning trainer will saddle up $7.50 chance Dragonne Rouge in the $200,000 contest over 1200m for 2YO fillies, a precursor to the start of the Queensland Winter Carnival on Saturday week.
She will go up against the likes of the Tony Gollan -trained star Hi Barbie ($2.90), fellow unbeaten filly Ha'penny Hatch (4.80), trained by Paul Shailer on the Gold Coast, and the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott -trained Headbanger ($6).
Dwyer is hoping he can win another Group 1 – 21 years after his last – with Dragonne Rouge, who will be targeted towards the $1m JJ Atkins (1600m) on June 14 at Eagle Farm if she can continue the brilliant start to her fledgling career (two starts, two wins).
In his heyday, Dwyer had about 80 horses in work, winning the 2004 Lightning Stakes with flying filly Regimental Gal, the 'Toowoomba tornado' who the year before captured rich Magic Millions 2YO Classic on the Gold Coast.
These days, Dwyer's stable numbers have dwindled to about 15 and he has become the hunter rather than the hunted.
'I was a big stable once, I had 80-odd horses at Deagon there for a while,' Dwyer said.
'Those premier trainers, you've got to keep it in reality. They've got a lot of horses and the more they get, the better quality they get and they don't come for nothing.
'It's always good to get a horse (Dragonne Rouge) with that sort of ability. She's just so strong to the line and that's what you want.'

Dwyer said he was quietly confident his filly could win on Saturday under the guidance of Andrew Mallyon, who takes the ride in the absence of Damien Thornton (who is riding Ha'penny Hatch) and Michael Rodd (Isti Star).
'When you've got a small team, you're hoping everything goes right and you've done the job,' he said.
'Fortunately I've been here a few times in my life and, yeah, I am pretty confident that if she can get the right ride then she'll go good.
'I think Andrew Mallyon is the ideal rider because he likes those midfield travels and he lets his horses find their feet.'

Dwyer believed the wide expanse of Eagle Farm would suit Dragonne Rouge even better than her last-start victory at Doomben this month when she wore down odds-on favourite Get Ready Lass over 1110m to get the cash on a soft track.
'We've had the benefit of a couple of solid runs,' Dwyer said.
'I've got no doubt that the 1200m at Eagle Farm is probably going to suit her a lot better.
'She can just travel around on the bit and let down. I think her times the other day (at Doomben) were very good.'

Randwick races postponed after heavy overnight rain
The first group race of the season in NSW, the Missile Stakes, could remain just that despite the postponement of the meeting at Randwick on Saturday. Australian Turf Club and Racing NSW officials were in talks about rescheduling the group 2 over 1200m, the lone feature on the program, after the Randwick meeting was washed out following 45mm of rain overnight and into the early morning on Saturday. It meant the course had received 87mm in the past week and 174mm during the past 30 days. Stewards made the call just after 7.30am, given predictions of more rain throughout the day. 'We've received over 45mms since nine o'clock last night,' Racing NSW chief steward Tom Moxon told Sky Racing. 'We conducted a track gallop at just before six o'clock this morning and the feedback from the riders was that although the track was as heavy as it could be at that point, we didn't need any further rain, and unfortunately that rain fell a short time after that. 'There are some sections of the track that have surface water present. While we are confident that without any rain throughout the morning that surface water would disappear, we don't have that forecast unfortunately. 'How the track is at the moment, it's definitely in the position where we could say the track is suitable for racing. We definitely would need improvement and, unfortunately, we just don't have that forecast today to give us that confidence that we could get through the meeting.' Warwick Farm preview: Dynamic Syndications aim to cap a stellar season on a victorious note in final metropolitan meeting
Dynamic Syndications have enjoyed another great season and are looking to end it on a high with another winner or two in the final metropolitan meeting. The Dean and Adam Watt-run Dynamic Syndications is just win away from equalling last year's haul of 62 winners. 'It's been a really good season. We aim for 52 winners each year – an average of a winner a week,' Adam Watt said. 'This season we have had 61 winners so far and 20 of them have been in town. 'That's the most winners we've had in town for a long time. 'It would be great if we can end with another winner or two.' Dynamic is represented by four genuine chances at Warwick Farm headed by Naval Commission in the TAB Handicap (2200m). The gelding has placed in three of his four runs this preparation and was an unlucky fifth at Rosehill last start. 'He should have won last time out. The gap unfortunately shut at the worst possible time as he was motoring home,' Watt said. 'He is tailor-made for the 2200 metres and I love the fact that rain is forecast. If it's a wet track, he grows a leg. 'It was great to see her break through after such a long time between wins. It had been 889 days between drinks for her,' he said. 'She is a horse who loves wet ground and I can't see any reason why she can't go back-to-back. She has trained on really well.' Provided the track is wet, the six-year-old lines up in the Traffic Warden @ Darley Handicap (1300m) in which she has barrier 12 but Watt isn't concerned by the outside gate. 'This does look a nice for her and I actually like the draw,' he said. 'By the time they come to the last race at Warwick Farm, they will be wanting to get away from the inside section. It's just one turn.' Just In Time scored her first win in 20 months when victorious at Hawkesbury first-up on June 17 although she did spend quite some time on the sidelines during that time. The four-year-old then followed with another smart win at Newcastle. She is chasing a hat-trick in the Myplates Handicap (1600m). 'She has always been a horse who has shown above average talent which is why we were ambitious and went to Flemington for a Group 3 at her second start,' Watt said. 'She has unfortunately had some niggles along the way since then. 'She is starting to get back to the form that we always felt she had. 'She ran home in 32.74 at Hawkesbury first-up on a Soft 5. If she can jump and lead around Warwick Farm, they could have a hard time reeling her in.' Watt has been pleased with the performances of Dollars this time in and gives him a good chance in the Keeneland September Yearling Sale Handicap (1600m). 'He is knocking on the door and I think this is a beautiful race for him,' he said. 'He is down in the weights and I think he will really appreciate the services of a senior rider in Ash Morgan. 'He's rock hard fit, comes off a good run over the mile and is drawn to get a lovely run. 'I think he's a great each-way chance.'
