Neena Gupta Says Viv Richards Wasn't In Touch With Masaba For Years: 'I Knew How He Was'
In 1989, when Neena Gupta found out she was expecting a child, she was overjoyed — but she also knew the road ahead wouldn't be easy. Choosing to have the baby as a single woman was a courageous decision, made more complex by the fact that the father was West Indies cricket legend Vivian Richards, and they weren't married.
In a revealing 2015 interview, as quoted in ETimes she spoke openly about raising her daughter Masaba alone after her relationship with cricket star Vivian Richards ended. She recalled how hard it was when Masaba felt abandoned. 'I told her how her father is not a family man and how he was like this and this. In the beginning, she would feel bad that Vivian was not in touch with her till the age of about 20, but then he got in touch. His problem also is that he is not net savvy and so, it is very difficult to get in touch with him."
Neena described the emotional rollercoaster of Richards' unpredictable involvement. 'Sometimes, he would call her on her birthday and sometimes, he would not call for even three years. Sometimes, he would come here and meet and sometimes not. By then, I knew him and how he was." She added, 'If I told him I needed something, he would go mad finding it to bring it for me, but on his own, he would not bring anything. He is a person who cannot express his emotions."
Despite the instability, Neena held no bitterness. She shared a touching memory from a match in Jaipur, 'I saw him almost crying and I liked that about him. He is a very nice guy, down‑to‑earth, disciplined, but you can expect only that much from him. I feel that God gave me my father instead of him."
After Masaba was born, Vivian Richards stayed as involved as he could. He was married, and because they lived in different countries, their relationship was not easy and changed over time. 'Our relationship continued on and off for a few years and we had some beautiful moments and also some ugly ones. It was long distance and a very different kind of relationship," Neena Gupta had written in her memoir, Sach Kahun Toh.
Masaba Gupta now shares a close relationship with her father, Vivian Richards.

Panel to be set up to ensure more screens for Marathi films: Shelar
Mumbai, Aug 7 (PTI) To ensure that more theatres are made available for Marathi films, Maharashtra Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar on Thursday directed the formation of a joint committee comprising representatives of relevant departments to examine the challenges faced by single-screen cinemas. Several organisations, along with associations of theatre owners and operators, artists and filmmakers had submitted representations to Shelar urging the government to take immediate steps, whether through financial aid, subsidies or other forms of support to revive single screen cinemas. They claimed the state of single-screen cinemas in Maharashtra is deeply concerning. Responding to these concerns, Minister Shelar convened a high-level meeting on Thursday with officials from the Department of Cultural Affairs, Goregaon Film City, and other relevant departments. Office-bearers of the Cinema Owners' Association were also present. During the meeting, the minister suggested forming a joint committee comprising the Urban Development, Home, Revenue, Finance and Cultural Affairs departments, along with experts from the field. This committee will conduct a detailed study and submit its report within two months, he said. He also directed the committee to explore whether any government incentive schemes can be introduced for the approximately 300 single-screen cinemas that are either currently operational or closed, provided they commit to screening Marathi films as part of its mandate. Meanwhile, a meeting was also held regarding the proposed theatre in Goregaon in Mumbai. Actor Sunil Barve and local citizens have strongly advocated for the establishment of this theatre, even launching a signature campaign in support. Minister Shelar reviewed the matter in the presence of municipal officials, concerned artists and local MLA Vidya Thakur. He instructed that a comprehensive report covering available land and the proposed building structure, considering the views of the artists, be submitted within the next 15 days. Further, he emphasized that the work should commence at the earliest. PTI MR BNM view comments First Published: August 07, 2025, 21:15 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Shalini Pandey Slays In Black Tube Top And Heeled Boots In Sexy Dance Video
Last Updated: Shalini Pandey stuns in a sexy black tube top and heeled boots as she grooves in her latest dance reel. The sultry studio performance has fans swooning. Shalini Pandey has returned to the spotlight with a bang — and a bold pair of heels. Best known for her breakout role in Arjun Reddy and her charming turn in Jayeshbhai Jordaar, the actress has taken over social media with a sizzling dance reel that's equal parts fierce, fun, and fabulously confident. Known for maintaining a relatively low profile online, Shalini surprised fans with this unapologetically powerful performance — and the internet is obsessed. Set to Beyoncé and JAY-Z's electrifying anthem Crazy in Love, Shalini's latest Instagram reel opens with her walking into a dance studio, bathed in moody lighting and flanked by mirror-lined walls. Dressed in a black tube top, high-waisted shorts, a flannel shirt tied at her waist, and killer heeled boots, she owns the space with every stride. The caption reads: 'Felt like putting on heels and just walking. So I did 🐺 #poweredbyheelsandbeyonce" — and the energy is unmistakable. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Shalini Pandey (@shalzp) Her solo strut transitions into a smooth, coordinated duet with another dancer, the pair moving in sync through a choreography that's deliberately minimal yet impactful. It's not about complexity — it's about presence. Each move is charged with self-expression, sensuality, and raw confidence. It's the kind of reel that doesn't just entertain — it empowers. While the video has fans and fellow celebrities showering her with praise, it also marks a new, uninhibited phase in Shalini Pandey's artistic journey — one where she's clearly reclaiming her narrative, on her own terms. Off-camera, the actress has been busy with an impressive slate of projects. Shalini is currently shooting the second schedule of Rahu Ketu in the picturesque locales of Kasol, Himachal Pradesh. She will also be seen opposite Dhanush in Idli Kadai, and headlines the quirky Amazon Prime Video comedy Bandwaale alongside Zahaan Kapoor (Black Warrant). Whether she's owning the screen or the dance floor, Shalini Pandey is proving she's not just an actress to watch — she's a force to be reckoned with.
