Dustin Poirier to close UFC career with Max Holloway trilogy title fight
May 22 - Louisiana native Dustin Poirier is locked for a UFC BMF title fight in his home state to conclude his career, as New Orleans will host Poirier's battle with title-holder Max Holloway to highlight the July 19 card at the Smoothie King Center.
This will be the third battle between the lightweight combatants, the 36-year-old Poirier, who hails from Lafayette, La., taking the first two contests.
Both fighters are coming off losses in title fights, however. Poirier (30-9) submitted to Islam Makhachev last June, while the 33-year-old Holloway (26-8) lost in knockout fashion to Ilia Topuria in October.
"For Dustin Poirier to be able to finish his remarkable UFC career in New Orleans is special," UFC executive vice president Peter Dropick said in a news release. "Thank you to the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation, the Louisiana Office of Tourism, New Orleans & Company and Smoothie King Center for helping us make this happen.
"It's been 10 years since we've held an event in New Orleans, we know the fans are ready for us to be back!"
The Octagon will also play host to ranked middleweights No 10 Marvin Vettori (19-8-1) and No. 11 Brendan Allen (24-7), who will do battle for the first time in an official capacity at UFC 318.
The two were slated to fight at UFC Vegas 90 last April, though Vettori pulled out. A few months later, the pair squared off (unofficially) in a brawl at a Florida casino.
Their ranked billing remains hotly anticipated.
The rest of the lineup includes newly announced fights between Kyler Phillips (12-3) and Vinicius Oliveira (22-3) at the bantamweight level, Jimmy Crute (12-4-2) facing Marcin Prachnio (17-8) in light heavyweight and Carli Judice (4-2) battling Nicolle Caliari (8-3) at women's fly.
Other fights include:

June 5 - Derek Carr announced his retirement last month, a decision that saw him forgo $30 million by opting against shoulder surgery. Had he gone under the knife, the veteran quarterback still would have been paid by the New Orleans Saints despite being sidelined for the duration of the 2025 season. "That part was tough because I didn't want to have surgery and just sit there and -- it sounds crazy but -- just take the Saints' money," Carr told Front Office Sports in a story published on Wednesday. "I wouldn't have been able to play if I had the surgery. And then if I tried to play with it, I wasn't near 100 percent, and so that doesn't help them, either. I just felt like it was the right thing to do for myself and for the team." The Saints disclosed that Carr had a labral tear and "significant degenerative changes to his rotator cuff." Carr, 34, signed a four-year, $150 million contract with New Orleans in 2023. "I never played just for the money," he said. "I had a whole bunch of people tell me how crazy I was, and, 'Man, I would never have done that.' That's all cool, but I've gained all these things that the world has to offer, and it doesn't really do anything for your heart. I knew my heart was at peace, and that's really all that mattered." The Saints selected quarterback Tyler Shough in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft in April. They also have 2024 fifth-round pick Spencer Rattler and 2023 fourth-round selection Jake Haener on the roster. Carr was 14-13 as the starter in New Orleans over two seasons, although he was limited to 10 games in 2024 due to injuries. A four-time Pro Bowl selection, Carr threw for 41,245 yards and 257 touchdowns against 112 interceptions in 169 games for the Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders (2014-22) and Saints. The former light-heavyweight champion is hoping to return to action later this year despite Magomed Ankalaev's claims that the Brazilian is 'retired' Alex Pereira has clapped back at Magomed Ankalaev, expressing his desire to make a comeback to the octagon later this year. The Brazilian was on the receiving end of a surprise loss to Ankalaev at UFC 313 earlier this year. The build-up to their light-heavyweight bout was marred by a war of words, with tensions running high and nearly boiling over before they even stepped into the cage. Since clinching the 205lb title, Ankalaev is desperate to stay active inside the cage and has continued to carry on his rivalry with 'Poatan'. The Russian accused the Pereira camp of stalling negotiations and believes that the former light-heavyweight king is 'retired.' Despite the post-UFC 313 drama, Pereira is keen to even the score and win back the gold strap. In a recent interview with UFC Brazil, the 37-year-old set the record straight regarding the status of his second bout with Ankalaev. "We'll definitely be talking about my next fight soon," he said. "I don't have a specific date yet, but we already have an idea. I took this time off to rest, because I worked hard in 2024. I think my body got tired, I had some injuries, so I decided to take it easy, more on the recovery side, and now I'm coming back. To come back [the right way]: firm and strong, to go after my belt again." Ankalaev recently stated that he had agreed to fight Pereira in June, July and August, following reports that both fighters had consented to a rematch. I don't believe the hack thing, mate. It's too convenient. It was very unusual. It was too specific. He didn't use profanity. It kind of sounded like Pereira." Pereira had posted: "I always answered the UFC's calls. But if they want to play with me, we can do that. I've never spoken poorly of the UFC but with what I've just heard I'm disheartened. I've already had thoughts of not fighting anymore, and after what was just relayed to me this may be the start." Sean O'Malley issues five-word response after Conor McGregor praise
The American has traded barbs with the former dual-weight champion in recent times, but it seems as if they have rekindled their relationship Sean O'Malley has seemingly buried the hatchet with Conor McGregor ahead of his return to the cage this weekend. The former bantamweight champion is gearing up for a return to the octagon on Saturday as he goes head-to-head with Merab Dvalishvili in an eagerly anticipated rematch at the Prudential Center in Newark. The pair originally clashed last September - with Dvalishvili going on to claim the 135lb title after securing a unanimous decision win. Following that triumph, Dvalishvili successfully defended his title back in January, beating Umar Nurmagomedov by decision. 'Suga,' on the other hand hasn't stepped into the cage since his defeat at UFC 306. Given how dominant the Georgian was in the first encounter, many are backing the 'Machine' to win again. Yet, one unexpected supporter in O'Malley's corner is McGregor – surprising many. Despite being respectful of each other at first, their relationship took a sour turn over the last few years. The pair have traded verbal jabs online- with McGregor slamming 'Suga' over his previous issues with USADA. Nevertheless, it seems they have moved past their grievances. McGregor lavished praise on O'Malley, remarking that his training camp echoes of McGregor's own ahead of his second bout with Nate Diaz: "Very reminiscent of my Diaz 2 prep. Intriguing! BIG FIGHT FEEL!" The Irishman wrote on X. After hearing the news, O'Malley expressed delight at having the 'Notorious' in his corner once more. "Hell yeah, I will take it," O'Malley said during the UFC 316 media day. "I will forever be a huge Conor fan. I feel grateful to be able to watch his come up in my generation, I watched it happen. In preparation for the upcoming rematch, O'Malley revealed he has watched plenty of sequels, including McGregor's second bout with Diaz - to see how they responded in the second bout when they were counted out. "So I was watching Conor-Nate. I've just been watching a bunch of fights. We just have cameras recording so much, I did not realise that was a moment that got captured," he said. "I've been watching a bunch of fights. I've been watching some rematches."
