Imane Khelif SKIPS tournament just days after World Boxing announced that all fighters must undergo sex testing
The Algerian, who was at the heart of a gender row at the Paris Olympics alongside Thailand's Lin Yu-ting, has missed the registration deadline.
Olympic chiefs were satisfied to let athletes compete based on the sex stated on their passport but World Boxing has introduced more exacting measures in recent days.
Their new policy requires all athletes over the age of 18 to undergo a PCR (polymerase chain reaction) genetic test to determine their sex at birth and their eligibility to compete.
Eindhoven Box Cup media director Dirk Renders said: 'The decision of Imane's exclusion is not ours. We regret it.'
Mayor of Eindhoven Joren Dijsselbloem opposes World Boxing's ruling and recently wrote in a letter to them and the International Boxing Federation: 'As far as we are concerned, all athletes are welcome in Eindhoven.
'Excluding athletes based on controversial 'gender tests' certainly does not fit in with that.
'We are expressing our disapproval of this decision today and are calling on the organization to admit Imane Khelif after all.'
Khelif was disqualified from the 2023 World Championships by the International Boxing Association - the previous world governing body - for allegedly failing elgibility tests.

Transfer news live: Arsenal's Eze bid, Man Utd close on Sesko, Liverpool given boost for Isak move
Arsenal are preparing to bolster their forward line further by signing Crystal Palace 's Eberechi Eze. Palace want a fee in excess of £60m and the Gunners are on the verge of submitting an official. Benjamin Sesko wants to move to Manchester United despite RB Leipzig accepting an offer from Newcastle for the 22-year-old striker. The Premier League clubs are battling to sign a No.9 but the Old Trafford hierarchy are confident they can secure Sesko's signature despite a lack of Champions League football. Newcastle also have issues with Alexander Isak. The 25-year-old has been trying to force a move away from the club amid interest pursuit from Liverpool but the Magpies want a huge fee, having rejected Liverpool 's first bid of £110m. Elsewhere, Liverpool have agreed to sell Darwin Nunez to Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal which should open up funds to purchase Isak if they are willing to match Newcastle's valuation and Ruben Dias is close to agreeing a new contract with Manchester City while Nicolas Jackson is set to leave Chelsea this summer. Good morning! Welcome to The Independent's transfer blog. We'll have all the latest comings and goings from the Premier League and more throughout the day. Mike Jones7 August 2025 07:26 Alexander Isak forced to train alone at Newcastle amid Liverpool transfer links Newcastle striker Alexander Isak was told he must train away from the Newcastle squad as uncertainty over his future continues. The 25-year-old Sweden international was told to report for training on Wednesday but only after the rest of the squad had left. Isak did not travel with his team-mates on their pre-season trip to Singapore and South Korea, ostensibly because of a minor thigh injury, after Liverpool, who subsequently tabled a £110million bid for him, let it be known they remained interested in acquiring his services. However, they are waiting to see if the striker will agree to leave Anfield after a three-season spell. Nunez also attracted interest from AC Milan but there were doubts if the Serie A side could meet Liverpool's asking price, whereas Al-Hilal are willing to pay a fee that could rise to £56.6m, including add-ons. Grealish, 29, was stuck on the fringes of City's squad last season and his prospects look no brighter after a summer in which the talented 21-year-old French midfielder Rayan Cherki joined Pep Guardiola 's squad. Guardiola left Grealish out of his selection for the recent Club World Cup after coming to a mutual agreement with the winger that he needed a break. Yet that is the building hype concerning 16-year-old forward Rio Ngumoha and the quality his possesses at such a young age. Then again, hype is one thing but performing on the pitch is another and in this arena Ngumoha is showing why football fans are getting excited about his future. On Monday 4 August, Liverpool played two pre-season games against Athletic Bilbao at Anfield. The games had different starting XIs with a mix of senior players and potential first team starters combining with fringe members of the squad in order to give Arne Slot a better feel for how his players are coping ahead of the start of the new season. Quite a lot, it seems. Which, given the numbers involved, it really should. But the Anfield bows of five lavish arrivals offered an insight into Arne Slot 's remodelled Liverpool. The goals came from the old, with Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo scoring to defeat Athletic Club 3-2, the intrigue from the new. Giorgi Mamardashvili, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike made Anfield bows, albeit in an unofficial outing and after each has featured further afield in preseason. Even as the £110m bid for Alexander Isak indicated Liverpool did not necessarily intend their business to stop with those five, it is half a team. Jurgen Klopp called the side he left Liverpool 2.0. Perhaps this is 2.0 for Slot's Liverpool, significantly different to the title-winning outfit. With a return to the Champions League, the Magpies need to strengthen their squad to compete at the highest level, but despite boss Eddie Howe making it known that he is looking to work fast this summer, Newcastle have missed out on several of their top targets so far. Benjamin Sesko is the latest high-profile target to opt against a move to St James Park, while key striker Alexander Isak remains linked with a move to Premier League champions Liverpool. Newcastle have been without any major recruits over the past two seasons due to PSR rules, and started the summer with a big move for Anthony Elanga – with the Nottingham Forest winger joining in a deal worth £55m – but have been thwarted in attempts to sign Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and James Trafford since then too. And it means that there are a big three weeks ahead for the Magpies ahead of the start of the 2025/26 season and the transfer deadline on 1 September, with the club needing to strengthen in several key positions. ‘Provided I know I am on my deathbed' – Brit legend Jonathan Edwards hopes world record lasts until the day he dies
JONATHAN EDWARDS hopes his triple jump world record remains his until the day he dies. Thirty years ago today, the Brit hopped, skipped and jumped his way to gold at the 1995 World Athletics Championships in Gothenburg. 5 5 5 5 His unprecedented mark of 18.29 metres – or 60 feet – was the best ever in history, smashing the previous best of 17.97 metres set by American Willie Banks in June 1985. It is one of the longest-standing world records in track and field for both male and female competitions. It is a moment that has withstood the test of time, proving untouchable at the next eight summer Olympics and 14 world championships. Bermudan Brian Wellman could only muster 17.62 metres as he finished second, coming 67 centimetres behind. Prior to his incredible jump, which was his second attempt of the 12-man final, he had actually gone 18.16 metres with the first, which was a world record in itself. Edwards, now 59, is the only British athlete to hold a world record in an Olympic-distance event and it is unlikely that anyone is going to surpass him any time soon. Speaking on an episode of PUMA's Go Wild podcast series, the London-born, Devon-raised ace – who became Olympic champion in Sydney 2000 – hopes the record lasts for a long, long time. Asked by former hurdling world-record holder Colin Jackson how he would feel if someone else went further, Edwards said: 'I'd be upset, for sure. 5 'I mean, it's been so long. It's almost part of me. Athletics, in essence, is about the demonstration of human capability. And, of course, your own capability. 'The excitement of breaking a personal best is always the biggest excitement. Noah Lyles sends clear message to sprint rival Kenny Bednarek after being shoved during fiery 200m race 'And when that personal best is the best there has ever been, it's a remarkable thing. It's a mindblowing thing. 'So, for that to go and not to be the world-record holder, but I don't think that will be easy. "I'd hoped it would get to 30 years. 'It's more than I could ever hope to achieve in sport. 'I'll be fine, I'll be fine, but yeah, it will be a sad day. I mean it would be pretty cool to be on my deathbed and still be a world-record holder. 'I'll take that. Provided I know I am on my deathbed. Just a thought, to die as world-record holder would be pretty cool.' Edwards, who describes himself as a 'late developer', famously declared 'he would never jump on a Sunday' due to his religious beliefs – though he later 'lost my faith'. He might have the world record yet the triple jump record at his secondary school is 'held by a guy called Stephen Ojomoh who went on to play rugby for England, he was like 6ft 3in when he was 13 or 14'. In his career, he won Olympic, world, European and Commonwealth titles outdoors -- a tremendous feat. On his physical appearance as an athlete – he was nicknamed Titch for being small and slight – he said: 'There was nothing remarkable about me. 'I remember a newspaper article once. One of the journalists described me as looking more like a geography teacher than a triple jumper. 'So, there's nothing about me physically which would make you think that I was going to be a world-record holder. 'And I think all of my competitors looked at me and thought: 'God, if Edwards can do it, surely we can do it, because what's special about him?' 'When people say to me, what was it that made you so good at triple jumping? I say: 'Well, I wasn't a jumper. I was a sprinter. And I could bounce.' 'I could maintain my speed on the contacts. So my final jump in the world record was seven metres. 'So, my ability was perhaps different from everybody else's and I think that's probably why it hasn't been broken.'
