Andhra Pradesh government misusing police powers and targeting opposition leaders, alleges YSRCP
The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has accused the Andhra Pradesh government of misusing police powers and targeting opposition leaders under what it described as a politically motivated strategy.
Speaking to the media outside Guntur District Jail after meeting remanded leaders Nandigam Suresh (former MP) and Turaka Kishore on Monday, YSRCP State coordinator Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy expressed concern over what he called the 'Red Book' approach allegedly being used to suppress dissent. He claimed that the present administration, led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, is endorsing measures that undermine democratic principles.
According to Mr. Ramakrishna Reddy, fabricated cases have been filed against the party members, including 12 against Suresh and older cases revived against Kishore. He also cited recent incidents in Tenali and Palnadu as examples of excessive police action, urging civil society to remain vigilant in defending the Constitutional rights.
He expressed concern over restrictions on peaceful protests, such as the disallowance of the YSRCP's 'Backstab Day' programme. Highlighting the condition of detained leaders, including Kakani Govardhan Reddy and Vallabhaneni Vamsi, he called for accountability.
The YSRCP has pledged to pursue legal remedies to address what it terms growing concerns over fairness, due process and the role of law enforcement agencies in the State.

Darsi MLA gets notice over law & order breach during Jagan visit
Vijayawada: Podili police of Prakasam district issued a formal notice to Darsi MLA Buchepalli Shivaprasad Reddy in connection with multiple incidents that allegedly disrupted law and order in Podili town on June 11, during the visit of former chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. According to the notice issued by the Podili inspector of police, the incidents occurred despite prior intimation and specific instructions issued to the legislator and his party regarding security arrangements for the high-profile visit. In the lead-up to the visit, the police carried out a site inspection of the designated helipad location at a local degree college in Podili and communicated several security protocols to the MLA. These included the mandatory establishment of a 200-metre zone around the helipad, limiting access to a single VIP convoy and one accompanying bus, as well as strict adherence to guidelines by party workers. The police reiterated that these protocols were conveyed in advance to ensure a smooth and secure visit. However, on the day of the event, several violations were reported by the police. Party workers allegedly breached the zone and forcibly removed barricades that were installed as part of the security arrangements. In addition to this, numerous private vehicles, which were not granted prior permission, reportedly made their way to the helipad area, further complicating the security situation. The notice also highlights that YSRCP activists allegedly attempted to assault members of other political parties who were present in the town and engaged in throwing footwear and stones. Police were reportedly injured in the process, and their official duties were disrupted. Additionally, the VIP convoy route was obstructed, posing a significant security concern. Govt has fulfilled major welfare promises: Min
Vijayawada: Despite facing severe financial constraints with more than 10 lakh crore debt inherited from the previous YSRCP govt, the NDA govt in the state fulfilled 85% of the 'Super Six' promises in the first year in office, said Kolusu Pardasarathy, the minister for housing, information and public relations. "While the previous govt gave an average of 30,000 per family, we provided Rs 1.04 lakh per family through the Super Six," he said. Drawing parallels between the previous YSRCP and NDA govt, Pardasarathy said that former chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy cheated the mothers by giving financial assistance to only one child. "But we kept our promise of giving financial assistance to all children, and the money was already deposited into the accounts of mothers," he said. Taking on the YSRCP leaders who alleged that the minister for education Nara Lokesh was pocketing 2,000 each from Talliki Vandanam beneficiary, Pardasarathy dared them to respond to the challenge of Lokesh. He said that the opposition is resorting to false propaganda in a desperate attempt to stay relevant. Explaining other welfare schemes, the housing minister said that there is no match to the NDA govt. He said that under the NTR Bharosa Pension, 34,000 crore was given in just one year. Under the Annadata Sukhibhava, financial assistance will be given to farmers, he said. "Besides welfare schemes, the NDA govt is committed to development and creation of job opportunities for the youth. Due to the troubles caused by the previous govt, investors fled to neighbouring states. We restored their confidence, and the result is before everyone's eyes as we sign MoUs for 10 lakh crore investments, which can create 5.7 lakh jobs," he said, adding that state govt is working with a target to create 20 lakh jobs by 2029 .
