Qatar Sports Investments extends Luis Campos' role as Sports Advisor until 2030

Broadcast Pro23-05-2025

Luis Campos will oversee the sports strategy of the whole QSI group – including Paris Saint-Germain men's football and counselling SC Braga.
Qatar Sports Investments (QSI), a global leader in sports, entertainment, arts, and culture investments, has renewed the contract of Luis Campos as Sports Advisor. Campos, who initially joined QSI in June 2022 on a three-year term, will now continue in his role until 2030.
In this extended capacity, Campos will lead QSI's overarching sports strategy, including his ongoing responsibilities with Paris Saint-Germain's men's football operations and his advisory role with Portuguese club SC Braga, in which QSI holds a minority stake. He will also be tasked with identifying new multi-club football ventures and other potential sports and talent assets for QSI's growing portfolio, while continuing to oversee scouting, recruitment, and talent development across the group.
Since joining the organisation, Campos has been instrumental in executing the vision of QSI Chairman Nasser Al-Khelaïfi. Under his guidance, Paris Saint-Germain has enjoyed a period of remarkable sporting success, securing three French Ligue 1 titles, one Coupe de France, three Trophée des Champions titles, and reaching the UEFA Champions League Final, Semi-Final, and Last-16 over the past three seasons—making it one of the most successful European clubs in that span. SC Braga has also seen positive results both domestically and in European competitions.
Campos' impact has extended beyond elite competition. He has significantly contributed to QSI's broader expansion and investment strategies, while also playing a key role in nurturing youth talent. PSG's Academy, now operating from its world-class Campus in Poissy, is producing a new generation of standout players, exemplified by the club fielding a record six academy-trained players in a recent Ligue 1 match against Montpellier. SC Braga has likewise developed into one of the premier youth academies in football.
Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, QSI Chairman, said: 'We are delighted to renew Luis Campos as Sports Advisor at QSI until 2030. We are building our project for the long-term and Luis has done a great job over the past three years.
'We have great stability, purpose and collective focus within our group, across all our assets, today – for which I thank Luis – and look forward to many more successes and achieving our long-term goals at QSI in the future.'
Luis Campos, QSI Sports Advisor, added: 'I am delighted to continue my story with QSI to 2030. We can be very proud of how we have transformed the clubs, companies, projects and ethos within our Group over the last three years, and I truly believe this is only the beginning of our successes. I thank Chairman Nasser Al-Khelaïfi for this full support of me and all our staff; and also for his great vision that drives the QSI Group's unprecedented success. I very much look forward to writing more history at QSI in the coming years.'

UAE, EU hold talks on trade agreement

The UAE and European Union have held talks on the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) that will deepen trade ties and open opportunities for investment and innovation. The proposed UAE-EU CEPA aims to remove trade barriers, enhance market access for goods and services, and create investment in priority sectors. During the investment roundtable, representatives from the UAE and the European private sectors explored mutual investment opportunities, particularly those aimed at fostering innovation and sustainable development. Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Trade, emphasised the importance of the CEPA with the EU, adding that it "represents an extraordinary opportunity... to enhance trade and investment ties that will foster greater collaboration and create mutual benefits and prosperity". "By working together, we will strengthen our supply chains, drive innovation, and create jobs that will benefit our communities and economies for many years to come." Commenting on the negotiations, EU Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security Maroš Šefčovič said: 'A bilateral FTA would unlock tremendous business opportunities for European and Emirati businesses alike. Our aim is to reach an ambitious deal — one that brings lasting benefits and commercial predictability.' The EU currently accounts for 8.3 per cent of the UAE's non-oil trade, which reached $67.6 billion in 2024 - an increase of 3.6 per cent from the previous year. Foreign direct investment between the two is strong, with recent UAE partnerships spanning data centres in Italy, solar energy in Spain and urban redevelopment in Budapest. Looking ahead, the CEPA could facilitate further high-impact deals, including a proposed $50 billion AI data centre collaboration with France and a $40 billion investment in Italy's energy and defence sectors. The UAE's CEPA programme is central to its foreign trade strategy, designed to boost economic diversification through open, rules-based trade. In 2024, the initiative contributed to record non-oil trade of $816 billion — a 14.6 per cent year-on-year increase.

Chelsea dominates Betis 4–1 to win Conference League title

Chelsea sparked into life in the second half as they came from behind to claim the Conference League trophy with a 4-1 victory over Real Betis on Wednesday. Their revival was inspired by the creativity of Cole Palmer at the Wroclaw Stadium. Goals from Enzo Fernandez and Nicolas Jackson - both set up by the excellent Palmer - plus late strikes from Jadon Sancho and Moises Caicedo secured the silverware after Betis went in 1-0 up at halftime thanks to an early Abde Ezzalzouli strike. The 23-year-old Palmer's two assists in five minutes during the second half turned the match around for Premier League club Chelsea and his efforts saw him named Player of the Match. The victory means Chelsea are the first team to have won all three European competitions, having lifted the Champions League twice along with two Europa League trophies in their history. They have also won the now defunct Cup Winners' Cup. "I am very happy. I was a little bit frustrated in the first half because I think we approached the game in the wrong way," Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca told TNT Sport. "In the second half we played much better." The result had no bearing on European qualification for next season, with Chelsea having secured a Champions League spot and Real Betis a Europa League place via their domestic leagues. Even before the match started, Betis fans set off green flares, their vibrant glow embodying the fervour and historic pride of the club's debut appearance in a European final. However, Betis appeared nervous in the opening minutes before they went ahead when Isco found the unmarked Ezzalzouli at the edge of the box in the ninth minute, giving him plenty of time to break the deadlock with a powerful low shot. Betis nearly doubled their advantage minutes later when Marc Bartra's long-range effort forced Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen to tip the ball over the bar. Johnny Cardoso then received a perfectly weighted pass that put him in an ideal position to score another goal for Betis, but a moment of hesitation allowed Chelsea defender Benoit Badiashile to block his attempt. Second-half Turnaround In the first half, only one team had been in the ascendancy as Betis pushed forward and Chelsea were outplayed. However, it was a different story in the second period as Chelsea seized control, dominating midfield and orchestrating a series of attacks that left Betis scrambling. The pressure bore fruit in the 65th minute when Fernandez slipped between two defenders to head home a pinpoint Palmer cross for the equaliser and ignite a roar from the Chelsea fans. Five minutes later, the match had completely turned around when Palmer cleverly turned his marker near the byline and again delivered a precise cross that enabled Jackson to bundle the ball into the net off his chest and put Chelsea ahead. Sancho effectively ended the contest in the 83rd minute by firing into the far corner and Caicedo put the icing on the cake with the fourth goal in stoppage time to delight the fans and secure the London club's seventh major European trophy.
