Orlando Pirates news: Rele Mofokeng transfer, R44 million offer?

Orlando Pirates winger Relebohile Mofokeng has been the subject of transfer speculation, but will he leave the club?
The 20-year-old superstar has been linked with moves to the Premier League, La Liga, the Saudi Pro League, and teams in Israel. After three impressive seasons, many believe it is the perfect time for Mofokeng to make a move to Europe.
Earlier this month, his attacking partner, Mohau Nkota, signed with Saudi Pro League side Al Ettifaq after just one season in the PSL.
'For Rele, I think he needs to continue doing his work the way he has been doing,' said Nkambule said as per KickOff.
'The years still allow him. It's not like it was his last season or something. He still has a big chance, he can still play another 15 years to 20 years.
'He just needs to relax and play football. If you check the profile of Rele and Nkota, it's not the same.
'Rele's profile is stronger than Nkota, that's why I think it won't affect him that much because Nkota has left,' he added.
With Nkota leaving for Saudi Arabia this transfer period, Nkambule said Mofokeng won't be allowed to join any other club as he is valued.
'But if you check he's going where, Saudi Arabia, it's not like he went to Europe in top five leagues.
'Rele is a star player and the face of Orlando Pirates now and for him to leave it won't be easy because for Nkota (Ettifaq) to negotiate with Dr Khoza was maybe easy, but for Rele, he's going to want a lot of money. He's special that boy,' said the former Chiefs star.
This week, Soccer Laduma reported that Israeli champions Maccabi Tel Aviv were willing to splash R44 million on the winger. With nearly two months until the transfer window closes, Pirates have all the time in the world to listen to better offers for Relebohile Mofokeng.

'Velebayi won't shine at Kaizer Chiefs' – Ex-star sends warning

Former Kaizer Chiefs star Junior Khanye has backed Amakhosi to prioritise Luke Baartman over Asanele Velebayi. The Soweto giants are looking to sign the Cape Town Spurs duo, but due to the ongoing case over the players, Chiefs are unable to sign them. 'Out of the two Cape Town Spurs players Chiefs are reportedly targeting, I really hope they succeed in signing Baartman – he's got the qualities to do well at the club. I'm not as convinced by Velebayi,' Khanye told Soccer Laduma. 'Look, I know there's a lot of hype around him, but in my opinion, he's not the kind of player who would shine at Chiefs. He's done well for Cape Town Spurs and could fit in at other teams, but Chiefs? I don't see it.' The former Kaizer Chiefs winger warned that Velebayi might fail to deliver like previous talented players who came to Amakhosi but failed to impress. 'We've seen it before with players like Ranga Chivaviro, Lebogang Manyama and others. They looked good at their previous clubs but couldn't replicate that form at Chiefs. That's what I fear with Velebayi,' he explained. Khanye felt Baartman had more potential than Velebayi but felt he's more suited at Orlando Pirates than Kaizer Chiefs. 'Baartman is young, he's talented, and for me, he's got the potential to become one of the best. I think he would improve a lot at a big club. But honestly, I'd rather see him join Pirates than Chiefs,' said the former winger. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 0211. OPINION: Pieter Coetze breaks through as SA's newest global swimming star

Last week, Coetze became the first South African in 20 years to earn three medals at a single edition of the World Aquatics Championships. After emerging as a real prospect a few years ago, Pieter Coetze experienced a couple of relatively stagnant seasons and it seemed unclear whether he would go on to achieve his apparently immense potential. However, following his performances at the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore last week, the 21-year-old swimmer has proved he remains on track to become one of SA's all-time greats in the pool. In 2022, at the age of 18, Coetze claimed three medals at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and bagged five medals at the World Junior Championships in Lima, which earned the teenager the Sportsman of the Year accolade at the SA Sports Awards. And while he went on to secure bronze in the 200m backstroke at the World Championships in Doha last year, he missed out on a spot on the podium at the Olympic Games in Paris, achieving a best result of fifth place in the 100m backstroke final. But any concerns about his ability to beat the world's best were put to bed last week when Coetze delivered in spectacular fashion at the global championships. Picture: François-Xavier Marit/AFP Historic medal haul He earned gold in the 100m backstroke, as well as silver in the 50m and 200m backstroke events, becoming the first South African to earn three medals at an edition of the World Championships since Roland Schoeman achieved the feat in Montreal in 2005. In addition, Coetze broke new ground by shattering the African records over all three backstroke distances. In the 100m final he was particularly impressive. Aside from securing the world title, he touched the wall in 51.85, clocking the third fastest time in history over two lengths. He was just 0.25 outside the world record of 51.60 held by Thomas Ceccon of Hungary, who settled for second place in the final in Singapore in 51.90. With Tatjana Smith having retired and Chad le Clos having struggled to find his best form in the latter stages of his career, South Africa will need other swimmers to deliver in the hunt for medals at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. And Coetze looks set to lead the charge.

Thembinkosi Lorch faces Sundowns exit after missing pre-season

Thembinkosi Lorch appears to have no future at Mamelodi Sundowns, with sources indicating the former PSL Footballer of the Season is not part of head coach Miguel Cardoso's plans. The Citizen reports that Lorch was among the first casualties following Cardoso's arrival last December, having been loaned to Wydad Casablanca just a month later. Rushine de Reuck also departed during the same window, joining Israeli side Maccabi Petah Tikva on loan. Lorch impressed during his stint at Wydad, particularly with his performances at the Fifa Club World Cup, sparking speculation that he could be reintegrated into the Sundowns setup. However, Phakaaathi understands that Cardoso remains unconvinced and is looking to move in a different direction. The 32-year-old failed to report for pre-season, prompting the Sundowns hierarchy to explore possible exit options. Having signed from Orlando Pirates in a high-profile switch in January 2024, Lorch's move to Chloorkop has ultimately failed to live up to expectations. He is currently training on his own while plotting his next move, believed to be in North Africa. Cardoso, who has consistently expressed a preference for a smaller squad, has already approved De Reuck's switch to Simba SC in Tanzania. Lorch is expected to be the next to leave as Sundowns continue to trim their squad for the new season, with other big-name players also expected to depart the Chloorkop-based side.
