Foxconn's big AI play could power Apple's next big thing
Meanwhile, TECO was originally a car engine maker. It's also expanded into EVs, energy storage, and even data center construction. Foxconn, on the other hand, is also manufacturing server racks designed for AI workloads, in a collaboration with Nvidia. Apple is very likely to also benefit from this deal. The Cupertino tech giant has very ambitious plans for generative AI in the future, and that would require an expanded server infrastructure globally to support all these demanding AI tasks. Possibly, Foxconn may get involved with this, given the ties between the two companies.
Towards the end of last year, Apple was rumored to be looking to build its own servers to handle AI tasks. And indeed, Foxconn is one of the partners that can help make this happen. Hopefully, this deal can help Apple give us the promised Apple Intelligence features that we're yet to see (hello, there, context-aware Siri).

For comparison's sake, note that the vanilla iPhone 16 has a 3,561 mAh cell, and that's the smallest one of the family. The iPhone 17 Air's battery will be encased in steel. Such technology was first used for the iPhone 16 Pro last year. The steel case is supposed to improve heat dissipation and battery density thanks to its higher structural resistance. The steel case can also very easily be integrated with the L-shaped design of the phone's inner side, fitting its reduced-size logic board perfectly. The entire iPhone 17 lineup is said to come with new battery adhesives that will serve to make replacements easier. Apple has already sold more than 3 billion iPhones
Vlad, 01 August 2025 If you've been wondering what the total number of iPhones ever sold is, we now have the answer, straight from Apple itself: as of today, over 3 billion. This was revealed by Apple CEO Tim Cook during the company's earnings call a few hours ago. Apple reached one billion iPhones sold in 2016, and is believed to have gone up to two billion sometime in 2021, although that hasn't been officially confirmed so far. And now, four years after that, another billion units have been sold. Cook said iPhone sales were up by double digits in the second quarter of this year (April to June), and Apple earned $94 billion in revenue, which was up 10% over Q2 of last year. Interestingly, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, who is always in the know with Apple-related stuff, has implied that the uptick in iPhone sales during this quarter might have been due to people panic-buying as a consequence of fear-mongering claims on the internet "predicting" that iPhones would end up costing $3,000 to $25,000 because of new tariffs imposed by the Trump administration. Apple says the new tariffs cost it $800 million in Q2, and it expects the number to rise to $1.1 billion in Q3 (July to September). In September, the company is due to unveil the new iPhone 17 family, which is rumored to include the very thin iPhone 17 Air, a replacement for the Plus model that has so far been the worst-selling of the series.
