11 Canada Day outfits you'll actually wear again — shop red and white finds from lululemon, Roots and more
Canada Day is a great excuse to throw on something fun and festive — we're talking red, white and maple leaves galore. Whether you're heading to a cottage, catching fireworks downtown or having a BBQ in your backyard, we've rounded up a few pieces to wear this July 1 (and throughout the rest of the summer, too).
Looking for casual? A red tank or tee with white shorts is easy-breezy and patriotic without trying too hard. If you're feeling extra spirited, throw on a maple leaf temporary tattoo or a cap in Canada's colours. Heading to the cottage? Swap the denim for comfy athletic shorts or joggers for those cooler lakefront nights. And if you're going out for the day, a red and white dress is simple but totally on theme.
And don't forget layers — fireworks watching usually means being out late, so packing a jean jacket or oversized flannel in your bag never hurts. Finish it all off with white sneakers or sandals and you're set.
Looking for something simple to put all of your essentials in? This patriotic belt bag is a great option — it has an adjustable strap, multiple pockets and is water repellent, so your things won't get totally soaked if the weather takes a turn for the worse.
This sleeveless ribbed tank is a cute and easy pick for Canada Day — its bold red colour nails the patriotic vibe without being over the top. It's lightweight, stretchy and layers well, making it a staple you'll reach for all summer long.
Here's a pair of casual, high-rise shorts you can throw on this Canada Day. They're made of sweat-wicking fabric and have a six-inch liner for a little extra coverage.
This embroidered Canada Day tee is a low-effort way to show off your pride. Throw it on with a pair of shorts or jeans and you're good to go.
This sleeveless sundress is the kind of piece you'll want to live in all summer. It's lightweight, flattering and has pockets. The red version is an easy pick for Canada Day, but it works just as well for beach days, patio brunches or casual summer evenings out.
Whether you're working out, running errands or just chilling out, these high-rise shorts are a great pick. The fabric is soft, stretchy and breathable, with a wide waistband that stays put without digging in. You can pair them with a white tank for a sporty Canada Day look.
This cute T-shirt dress can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion — plus it has pockets!
Show off your Canadian pride with this classic, lightweight tee from Roots. It's made from organic cotton that'll help keep you cool in the summer heat.
If staying cool and comfortable is a non-negotiable this Canada Day (or this summer, in general), then try this tank on for size. The flowy, eyelet fabric is super breathable, which might just save you from overheating in the sun.
This monochrome maple leaf cap from Roots is the perfect finishing touch for your Canada Day outfit. It pairs well with just about anything and is subtle enough to wear all year round, too.
These high-rise, breathable joggers will keep you cozy (but not too warm) during the later portion of your Canada Day festivities — which you should keep in mind if you plan on watching fireworks. They have a built-in liner and zippered pockets to keep your stuff secure while you're on the go.

Celebrate Canada Day by going plastic free
According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, less than 10 per cent of the plastic used in Canada actually gets recycled. Plastic Free July is a global movement that encourages the public to refuse single-use plastics for the entire month in the hopes that the small, yet significant lifestyle adaptation will continue. Since this yearly challenge happens to fall within the heart of summer, what better way to take part in the incentive than by throwing a picnic? Sans plastic, of course. Canada Day is the perfect time to jump start a plastic-free commitment. Here are some tips. Re-use old food jars to store food. Heading out to a picnic? Pickle and jam jars make for great alternatives to plastic bags when packing up food. Simply give them a good wash and they suddenly become a reusable item in your picnic basket. Ditch plastic cups. Staying hydrated doesn't have to include plastic cups. Keep the whimsy by serving drinks in mason jars. Add sliced citrus and mint for a refreshing beverage. Serving fruit? Avoid plastic-wrapped products. A no-cut fruit salad makes for the perfect guilt-free sweet treat. Picking up fruit from a local farm or farmer's market eliminates the use of plastic wrap and bags. Buy Canada Day snacks in bulk. Buy your nuts (or snack of choice) in bulk! Most bulk food stores allow you to bring reusable produce bags and storing jars. When decorating, consider buying decorations that can be used year after year. Or, better yet: Thrift them! Borrow or rent items you don't own. Opt for paper decor over single-use plastics. We challenge you to be part of the Plastic Free July movement. Choosing to refuse single-use plastics could be as easy as throwing your own plastic free picnic. Article kicked off its Canada Day sale early — save up to $1,570 on furniture, decor and more
As a shopping editor, I spend countless hours sifting through hundreds of products, looking for interesting furniture trends and home essentials — especially those from Canadian brands. Outside of my 9-5, my passion for interior design often results in even more research, albeit for my own Pinterest boards rather than Yahoo Canada shopping articles. Due to the nature of my work — and my hobbies — I have a pretty good lay of the land regarding Canadian home brands. You have Sundays, which is great for luxe sofas and high-end furniture. There's Umbra, a must-shop for organizers and storage, and then there's my personal favourite: Article. Now through July 6, shoppers can save up to 40 per cent on hundreds of items, including the brand's popular sofas, outdoor furniture, bedroom essentials and more.
