Rugby club members to cycle 870 miles ahead of international tournament

Yahoo15-05-2025

THREE Worcester RFC members will cycle 870 miles to take part in an international tournament.
In June the club is set to participate in the International Mixed Ability Rugby Tournament (IMART) in Pamplona, Spain.
Three enthusiastic members of the Worcester squad have decided to make the most of the experience by cycling around 1,400 kilometres to Pamplona.
The journey will also serve as an opportunity to raise awareness of the mixed-ability rugby movement, and inspire others to travel by bike.
In addition to cycling, club members Rob Collier, Steve Slawson, and Dan Brothwell also plan to use the expedition to raise funds for RoadPeace, a charity that supports road accident victims.
Mr Collier said: "I'm really excited about the tournament and the journey there.
"It's a real challenge, with multiple days of over 100 miles to cover.
"We'll be carrying camping gear and our playing kit, so it will be long days in the saddle."
The route begins in Worcester, taking the trio to the south coast of the UK, across France, and over the northern Pyrenees before reaching Pamplona.
Beyond their roles at the rugby club, Mr Collier and Mr Brothwell serve as secretary and chair, respectively, of Bike Worcester, a group dedicated to motivating people to undertake more journeys by bike.
Mr Brothwell said: "I love getting around Worcester on my bike, volunteering for the city bike buses helping children cycle to school, to work, and to the club for training, but this will be the longest ride I've ever done.
"It's great to use the trip to support the charity RoadPeace, and all the fantastic work they do, raising awareness of road danger and supporting victims and families of road violence."
WRFC Mixed Ability lead Tom Reeves said: "This will be the club's second time at IMART and we're thrilled we're taking both women's and men's teams.
"For the lads to take on the challenge of travelling by bike is incredible, and shows what great guys they are looking to make the most out of this opportunity."

Minnesota Lynx Stay Strong At Top of WNBA Power Rankings

Minnesota Lynx Stay Strong At Top of WNBA Power Rankings originally appeared on Athlon Sports. It's no surprise to see the Minnesota Lynx at the top of the WNBA Power Rankings once again. They have been performing at a high level and don't seem to be sinking anytime soon. Advertisement When the new WNBA Power Rankings were released on Tuesday by ESPN, the Lynx were securely at the No. 1 spot. There have been few weaknesses shown by Minnesota. They were still owners of a 7-0 record heading into a Tuesday night, June 3, home matchup against the Phoenix Mercury. The Lynx recorded victories over the Seattle Storm, Mercury, and new franchise Golden State Valkyries. Still, these players are simply not satisfied with their play. Can Minnesota get any better? It appears so. Napheesa Collier continues to play impressively for Minnesota Lynx this season Forward Napheesa Collier, who has been lights out for the Lynx so far this season, had a couple of things to say in an interview with ESPN reporter Kendra Andrews. Collier pointed toward the team's 82-77 win over the Storm on May 27 and told Andrews that this was the Lynx's only "good game" so far this season. Advertisement Collier missed Minnesota's showdown against the Mercury on Friday, May 30, with a knee injury. Still, the sixth-year standout from Connecticut leads all WNBA scorers with a 26.3 ppg. average. Collier also is among WNBA leaders in steals with 2.3 per game. Teammate Alanna Smith, a sixth-year veteran out of Stanford, is second league-wide in blocks, averaging two per game. Despite the team's win over Golden State, Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve wasn't totally happy with the Lynx's efforts on the court. "That's the thing with expectations — we have to do more because our goals are high," Reeve said, ESPN reported. Don't look for the Lynx to slow down. As long as Reeve has her way, Minnesota will look to stay atop the league for a bit longer. This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jun 4, 2025, where it first appeared.

Napheesa Collier Continues to Star for Minnesota Lynx

Napheesa Collier Continues to Star for Minnesota Lynx originally appeared on Athlon Sports. As the Minnesota Lynx have been perfect so far this season, a big reason for their success is forward Napheesa Collier. She's been stuffing the stat sheet with impressive numbers as the Lynx are 8-0 in the 2025 WNBA season. Advertisement Collier averaged 26.8 points, 7.8 rebounds and 3.0 assists throughout the team's 7-0 marcg through May. It's the best start for Minnesota since 2017. For her efforts, Collier was named the WNBA Western Conference Player of the Month, the Lynx announced on Wednesday on their website. Here's what Collier did against the Seattle Storm back on May 27. She scored 16 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, dished out five assists and had five steals. Minnesota dropped Seattle 82-77. Collier also became the 11th player in WNBA history and first Lynx player to put together statistics that had 15+ points, 10+ rebounds, 5+ assists and 5+ steals in a game. Napheesa Collier joins elite Lynx company Here's another stat to check out. Collier led the Lynx in scoring in their first four games this season. That means she joins Maya Moore as the only players in franchise history to start the season with four consecutive 20+ point games. Advertisement It's no wonder Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve probably loves seeing Collier, a sixth-year veteran from Connecticut, perform at such a high level. Minnesota usually goes the way Collier goes, meaning her on-court efforts act as a way to pick up her teammates. As long as Collier is able to put up impressive numbers, don't be surprised if the Lynx are in place to challenge the New York Liberty for the coveted WNBA championship. Up next for the Lynx will be a Sunday contest against the Dallas Wings. Then, Minnesota goes to Seattle for another matchup with the Storm on June 11. Fantasy Baseball Farm Report: Waiting impatiently for Roman Anthony

There's no such thing as a can't-miss baseball prospect — but, if there was, their numbers would look almost exactly like Roman Anthony's. Over the past two seasons, Anthony has slashed an outrageous .319/.443/.503 at Triple-A Worcester with eight steals, 76 walks, 35 extra-base hits and 11 home runs. He only recently turned 21, yet he's been one of the toughest outs at the highest minor league level dating back to last year. Advertisement Abraham Toro, a veteran of five different organizations across nine seasons, recently offered some pretty strong Anthony hype: 'I don't say this lightly — I think he's the best minor league hitter I've ever seen. I think he can be an absolute star in MLB.' It's honestly somewhat shocking that Anthony has not yet been called up by Boston (although his situation is obviously affected by Rafael Devers' positional inflexibility). Whenever he arrives, he's likely to deliver useful across-the-board contributions. Anthony may not be dominant in any single standard fantasy category, but he should be helpful everywhere. This swing is art: Here's hoping we see Anthony in Fenway very soon. He's obviously worth stashing ahead of the eventual promotion. Chase Burns is gonna need a new challenge Ideally, that new challenge would await him in Cincinnati, but Triple-A Louisville might be more likely. In any case, Burns has been unreasonably good in the Southern League. The right-hander has struck out 49 batters and walked only four (!) over 35.0 innings at Chattanooga, producing a 1.54 ERA and 0.77 WHIP. It's difficult to argue he has anything left to prove at Double-A. Advertisement Burns is certainly capable of making a late-season fantasy splash, so he's a priority player to slide into a vacant NA roster spot. Jonathon Long is launching missiles Seriously, just look at this thing: Long is crushing at Triple-A Iowa, hitting .344/.419/.561 with nine homers among his 21 XBHs. He's primarily playing first base, but he's also seen time at third and in left field, so he offers some defensive flexibility. The Cubs don't have a glaring lineup need at the moment and Long is much too good to waste away as a bench bat, but he's an injury away from fantasy relevance. He's batting .342 in the high minors over the past two seasons. Ryan Ritter, also raking Colorado is a dreadful team off to a historically poor start and they are clearly willing to shuffle pieces in and out of the major league roster. Perhaps they could soon find a use for a 24-year-old middle-infield prospect who's produced a 1.059 OPS at Triple-A Albuquerque. Ritter is scorching hot in recent weeks, with six multi-hit games and seven home runs in his last eight. He's up to 16 bombs for the season and he's getting himself on-base at a .416 clip. Ritter has a 20/20 season to his credit in the minors, so he has all-category appeal in fantasy. Advertisement [Smarter waivers, better trades, optimized lineups — Yahoo Fantasy Plus unlocks it all] Bubba Chandler remains obscene, needs to be rostered Chandler's 101-mph heat has proven to be too much for the hitters of the International League. After 11 starts at Indianapolis this season, Chandler's ERA is 2.03 and his K/9 is a ridiculous 12.8. Every time he takes the mound, it's another 5.0 innings and 7-9 strikeouts. He's allowed only two homers all year. Pittsburgh has just about run out of baseball reasons to keep him stashed in Triple-A. Ronny Mauricio gets the call Mark Vientos is dealing with a hamstring issue, so the Mets are calling up one of Earth's hottest hitters. Mauricio has gone 17-for-33 over his nine games at Triple-A, launching 3 homers, scoring 10 runs and swiping 4 bags. His recovery from knee surgery has clearly gone about as well as it could possibly go. Advertisement Defensively, the 24-year-old Mauricio has been seeing time at second base and third, which of course makes sense in consideration of New York's most pressing needs. As great as the Mets have been so far this season, the bottom-half of the batting order isn't so intimidating. Mauricio is worth an add if you have middle-infield needs. Justin Crawford, running wild Honestly, the entire roster at Lehigh Valley has been pretty great — the Phillies' Triple-A affiliate is currently 41-16 and we've already written up various other members in previous Farm Reports. Let the record show that Crawford is also cooking. He's delivered back-to-back three-hit games, raising his season average to .338. He's stolen 20 bags over 49 games and he's boosted his walk-rate to 10.5%, nudging his OBP above .400. Crawford is a .320 career hitter in the minors with a pair of 40-steal seasons to his credit, so nothing about the year he's having seems fluky. There isn't much power in the 21-year-old's game, but he has a clear chance to be a category leader in speed and average.
