Jerry Seinfeld Finally Sold the Porsche 917K from ‘Le Mans' After Turning Down $25 Million

Yahoo07-03-2025

The price was finally right for Jerry Seinfeld.
The comedian revealed that he has finally sold his Porsche 917K during his appearance on Spike Feresten's 'Spike's Car Radio' podcast (via Road & Track) earlier this week. News of the sale comes just weeks after Seinfeld turned down $25 million for the race car that Steve McQueen drove in the movie Le Mans at Mecum Auction's Kissimmee 2025 sale.

Jaws dropped last fall when Seinfeld announced that he was selling his 917K chassis 022. Enthusiasts weren't just shocked the renowned Porsche lover was parting ways with the marque's most famous vehicle but also that he'd chosen Mecum to oversee its sale, as opposed to RM Sotheby's or Gooding & Company. The auction house has a proven track record, but it's more associated with American-made muscle cars than the kind of historic European sports and race cars they write books about.
Seinfeld told Ferensten and his co-host, Paul Zucker, that he went with Mecum because of a meeting he had with its founder, Dana Mecum. During their conversation, Mecum outlined how they would use the auction as a marketing opportunity for the comedian's car and his auction house, driving up interest in both. Seinfeld was so convinced by the idea that he claims he didn't even bother to pay attention to auction, where bidding topped out at $25 million, in January.
Seinfeld went on to explain that the kind of collectors who have the money to buy something like the Le Mans 917K, don't always want to do business in a public setting. 'Some people don't want to buy it in that frenzied moment of an auction,' he said. 'They want to do it after. And that's what happened.'
The comedian did not identify the new owner of the 917K. He also wouldn't say how much the paid for the car, other than that it was in the $25 million range. That would make the 917K the most expensive Porsche of all time, easily beating the $14.08 million that another example used to film Le Mans, chassis 024, sold for in 2017. Regardless the final price, Seinfeld is sure to have turned a nice profit on the vehicle, which he acquired from Frank Gallogly for an undisclosed sum in 2001, one year after his fellow Porsche buff bought the car for $1.32 million.

Shohei Ohtani's daughter gifted ‘new car' by Dave Roberts

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts gifted Shohei Ohtani's baby girl quite the gift. Right before the boys in blue hosted the New York Mets, Roberts presented Ohtani with a remote-controlled pink Porsche. Advertisement 'That was a present from me and my wife to Shohei's baby,' Roberts said. 'We have a little running practical joke situation going on, but this was a gift for the baby.' In April, Shohei and his wife, Mamiko, welcomed their daughter. The gift is part of a running joke between the two, which stems from when Ohtani broke Roberts' franchise record last May. Shotime promised the team's manager a new car for the history-making feat. However, he pranked him by gifting him a toy Porsche instead. Keep in mind, Ohtani does give out real cars. Back in 2023, he gifted Joe Kelly's wife, Ashley, a real Porsche for her role in lobbying for him to come to the team. She started the '#Ohtake17' campaign, which referred to Kelly's jersey number he wore during his time in L.A. Ashley said that Ohtani could have the number if he signed with the Dodgers. Analyst Says NVIDIA (NVDA) is ‘Firing on All Cylinders' – ‘Everybody Wants Their Product'

Nvidia (NVDA) shares are in the spotlight as an increasing number of market indicators point to strong growth for the company's chips. The stock has gained about 20% over the past month. Kimberly Forrest from Bokeh Capital talked about the company during a latest program on Schwab Network. She believes Nvidia's chips demand remain strong. "I think the title if I was back on the sell side writing about this it would be like Porsche except no substitute or there is no substitute. You know years and years ago, decades ago, that was Porsche's claim that no other car was as good as theirs and I think NVIDIA Corp (NASDAQ:NVDA) has a real hold on the very high-end and even the less than high-end kind of products that it, you know, product space. So the company is firing on all cylinders, everybody wants their product, they're moving forward with good products and it doesn't look like the biggest fear that an NVIDIA Corp (NASDAQ:NVDA) shareholder has is that somebody else comes up with a good enough chip that's cheaper." A close-up of a colorful high-end graphics card being plugged in to a gaming computer. With its latest numbers and stock performance, Nvidia was able to prove the skeptics wrong. In its recently reported quarter, Nvidia's data center computer revenue rose 76% year over year, driven by Blackwell GB200. Despite a $4.5 billion inventory charge related to US import restrictions for China, the company expects gross margins to reach the mid-70% range by late this year due to scaling Blackwell production. NVDA bulls believe the company can easily offset losses related to China amid new products and market diversification. Saudi Arabia's Humain plans to buy more than 200,000 AI GPUs from Nvidia, potentially generating $15 billion in sales. The UAE reportedly has an agreement for up to 500,000 GPUs. Even without China's involvement for now, Nvidia said nearly 100 AI factories are under construction. These factories have hyperscalers deploying 1,000 GB200 NVL72 racks weekly, each with 72,000 Blackwell GPUs. RiverPark Large Growth Fund stated the following regarding NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) in its Q1 2025 investor letter: 'NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) was our top detractor in the quarter as investors took profits following its extraordinary performance in 2024. Despite reporting strong quarterly results, the stock pulled back amid concerns that AI-related demand may be plateauing near-term and that capital expenditures by hyperscalers could moderate. Additionally, investor anxiety rose following the announcement of sweeping new tariffs, which sparked fears of supply chain disruptions and rising input costs across the semiconductor industry. We continue to believe that NVIDIA remains one of the most strategically important companies in global computing, with best-in class GPUs, a dominant software ecosystem, and expanding opportunities in inference, networking, and edge AI. The long-term secular trend toward accelerated computing remains intact, and we believe NVDA is well-positioned to be a key beneficiary.' READ NEXT: and . Disclosure: None.
