Centre to consider Goa's demand for 24x7 ‘Drink from Tap' water supply project
New Delhi: Goa's demand for special assistance of ₹652.61 crore for providing 24x7 Drink from Tap (DfT) water supply project will be considered, central government officials said following a meeting between Union housing and urban affairs minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Goa chief minister Pramod Sawant on Monday.
Further, based on the demands made by Sawant and Goa's urban development minister Vishwajit Rane, Khattar asked MoHUA (ministry of housing and urban affairs) officials to make necessary policy changes in the tourist states to provide enhanced central government support under AMRUT (Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation) 2.0 and SBM-U (Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban) 2.0 to better serve the significantly high volume of tourists.
Odisha's Puri, another tourism-dominated city, became the first in the country to provide 24x7 DfT in July 2021. Following this, the state government expanded the project in other urban centres.
In a government release, it was said that the Goa CM had also sought special financial assistance of ₹326.30 crore minimum for Water Source Augmentation, Infrastructure Development, Rehabilitation of Existing Network, pilot Drink-from-Tap projects including smart metering, IoT and SCADA-based monitoring systems to the State under AMRUT 2.0.
During their meeting, Khattar also advised the State to complete all pending work related to water supply (new/service tap connections and new/service sewer connections) under AMRUT; revision of action plan, expedite tendering work for toilets (community toilets, public toilets, aspirational toilets, urinals), Solid Waste Management, STP/co-treatment facilities under SBM, the government release added. The union minister also urged the CM to inform and educate citizens about PMAY-U (Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban) 2.0 to get benefits of affordable housing; profile Street Vendors under PM SVANidhi (a microcredit facility for street vendors), clear eligible loan applications and increase women participation.

Minimum temperature in new air-conditioners to be capped at 20 degrees Celsius
The temperature of new air-conditioners in India will be standardised not to go below 20 degrees Celsius and above 28 degrees Celsius, announced Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar on Tuesday. The minister said that this 'new experiment' of temperature standardisation would be implemented in all sectors, including vehicles, amid rising temperatures due to climate change and increasing use of cooling systems, Deccan Herald reported. The revised limits were part of a broader policy framework aimed at boosting energy efficiency in both commercial and residential sectors, as well as reducing electricity bills, he added. The limits proposed by the Union government will override these options once they come into force. The Bureau of Energy Efficiency, a statutory body under the Ministry of Power, has estimated that increasing an air-conditioner temperature setting by just 1 degree Celsius can reduce electricity usage by up to 6%, The Hindu reported. If air-conditioners are set at 24 degrees Celsius, up to 20 billion units of electricity could be saved annually, the bureau has said. Financial savings could also touch Rs 10,000 crore in the country and carbon emissions could drop by 8.2 million tonnes per year.

Himachal Deputy CM urges Nitin Gadkari to increase validity of All India taxi permit to 15 years
Himachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri met Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari at his residence in New Delhi on Monday and thanked him for extending a generous hand towards the state. He informed the Union Minister that the state government has requested the Union Ministry of Road Transport & Highways to increase the validity of all India taxi permit s from the existing 12 years to 15 years, keeping in view the operators' demand. The all India taxi permit should also be granted for 15 years, keeping in view the vehicle scrapping policy period of 15 years. Gadkari assured that he would look into the matter sympathetically and also directed the authorities concerned to process the case accordingly, a Himachal Pradesh government release said. He stated that in view of its diverse topographical conditions, the development of hilly states like Himachal Pradesh solely depends upon expanding the road and bridge infrastructure. Agnihotri also urged the Union Minister to release the remaining funds to the tune of ₹7.63 crores under the scheme for special assistance to the State for capital investment (incentives for scrapping of old vehicles). He also demanded that the Nangal to Jaijon road be declared a national highway , as it would also cater to the proposed bulk drug park. Agnihotri stated that a DPR to the tune of ₹429 crores has already been prepared and it would be submitted to the Government of India under the Gati Shakti scheme. He also urged that the proposed four-laning of NH 503 A from Amritsar to Hoshiarpur may be extended from Bankhandi (HP boundary) to Jhaleda. This is a stretch of approximately 15 kms and would connect Shree Anandpur Sahib and Mata Chintpurni, which would also benefit the pilgrims visiting these two shrines. Agnihotri also raised the issue of connectivity between Chandigarh and the Baddi industrial area. Gadkri stated that the Centre is actively considering this issue. The Deputy Chief Minister also raised the issue for approval for up-gradation of link road Jaijon Modh to Tahliwal Chowk via Bhai-Ka-Modh and three bridges for which ₹ 48.69 crore will be provided under CR|IF. The Union Minister assured that he would approve it on priority. The Union Minister directed that the DPR under the Gati Shakti scheme may be prepared and submitted to the Ministry accordingly.
