New documentary identifies Shireen Abu Akleh's killer
DaysofPal- 'Killed Shireen?' is a powerful 40-minute investigative documentary that sheds new light on the killing of Palestinian-American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, who was fatally shot by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank in 2022.
The film stretches from the streets of Jenin and Jerusalem to the corridors of power in Washington, D.C., revealing not only the circumstances of Shireen's death but also the extensive efforts by Israeli and U.S. authorities to obscure the truth.
The documentary, prepared by an investigative journalist and Wall Street Journal reporter, includes extensive research and on-the-ground reporting. It features interviews with prominent figures, including Democratic Senator Chris Van Hollen, as well as previously unheard sources with direct knowledge of the case.
One of the film's most startling revelations is the identification of the Israeli soldier believed to have shot Shireen: Alon Skajio. According to Al Jazeera correspondent Bisan Abu Kweik, 'the irony revealed by the film is that the soldier who killed her colleague Shireen was killed last summer by Palestinian resistance fighters during a military operation carried out by Israeli occupation forces in Jenin.'
The documentary exposes not only the shooter but also the alleged attempts by both the Israeli and American governments to conceal the details surrounding Shireen's death.
'The film revealed information about the efforts of the Israeli and US governments to conceal information about the circumstances of the assassination of our late colleague and to prevent access to the killer,' the producers stated.
Shireen Abu Akleh, Al Jazeera journalist, was covering an Israeli military raid in the West Bank city of Jenin on May 11, 2022, when she was shot and killed.
Despite wearing marked press gear, she was struck by live fire in what many witnesses and investigators have called a targeted shooting.
In 2023, a damning report from the United Nations added weight to these accusations. Navi Pillay, head of the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry, stated:
'The investigation concluded that Israeli security forces used lethal force without justification under international human rights law and violated Shireen Abu Akleh's right to life, intentionally or recklessly.' She further added, 'After forensic analysis and expert testimony, the commission believes that the fatal bullet was most likely fired by a soldier belonging to the Duvdevan unit. We did not mention the name of the unit commander, but we have that information.'

Gaza Residents Observe Eid al-Adha Amid the Ruins
DaysofPal- Hundreds of Palestinians across the Gaza Strip gathered on Friday morning to perform Eid al-Adha prayers atop the rubble of destroyed homes and mosques—marking a second consecutive year of commemorating the sacred holiday under the shadow of genocide. The sound of takbeer rose from the debris-strewn streets of Gaza, as displaced families sought to preserve the ritual and dignity of Eid, despite devastation and loss. Makeshift prayer areas formed atop collapsed buildings and in overcrowded shelters, where worshippers stood shoulder to shoulder, grieving the absent and the fallen. This year, Eid arrives with sorrow etched deep into the hearts of Gaza's people. Cemeteries are filled with martyrs, hospitals overflow with the wounded, and hunger has spread as food supplies remain critically low. Traditional Eid practices—such as animal sacrifices, family gatherings, or sweets—are absent in the besieged enclave. Since October 7, 2023, Israel—backed militarily and diplomatically by the United States—has waged a war widely described by legal experts and humanitarian organizations as genocide. Despite global appeals and provisional orders issued by the International Court of Justice to halt hostilities, the Israeli campaign continues with mass killings, systematic starvation, and forced displacement. To date, more than 180,000 Palestinians in Gaza have been killed or injured, the vast majority of them women and children. Over 11,000 remain missing, presumed dead beneath the rubble or forcibly disappeared. More than 1.5 million people—over half of Gaza's population—have lost their homes. Famine has tightened its grip, particularly in northern Gaza, where aid has been blocked and children have died from hunger and dehydration. Meanwhile, the Israeli siege—now in its 18th year—has turned Gaza into what observers call 'a graveyard for international law.' Despite these circumstances, the people of Gaza continue to demonstrate resilience. Friday's Eid prayers, held amid ruin and despair, served as both a spiritual act and a defiant declaration of life. As the world watches, Gaza endures. Shortlink for this post:

Leaked EU Report Exposes European Complicity in Gaza Genocide: The Netherlands Under Fire
DaysofPal- A leaked 2024 European Union report, published by EUobserver, has unveiled extensive violations of international humanitarian law committed by Israel in Gaza, including mass killings of civilians and the use of starvation as a weapon of war. These actions may constitute atrocity crimes under international humanitarian law. Despite these findings, the European Union has maintained its preferential trade relationship with Israel through the EU-Israel Association Agreement, which facilitates the annual export of approximately €15 billion worth of goods. This agreement includes a human rights clause that mandates adherence to human rights and democratic principles. The Netherlands, traditionally one of Israel's staunchest allies within the EU, has faced criticism for its ongoing support of Israel's military operations in Gaza. In particular, the Dutch government's involvement in the F-35 fighter jet supply chain has come under scrutiny. Research indicates that the port of Rotterdam is a key transit point for F-35 parts destined for Israel, despite a Dutch court ruling in February 2024 that banned the direct export of such parts due to their potential use in serious violations of international humanitarian law. Public outcry in the Netherlands has been significant, with tens of thousands marching in The Hague to protest against the government's support for Israel amidst the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Organizers described these protests as the country's largest in two decades, calling on the Dutch government to cease political, economic, and military support to Israel. The leaked EU report and subsequent revelations have intensified scrutiny on the EU's role in the Gaza conflict, highlighting the need for a reassessment of its policies and agreements with Israel. As the situation continues to evolve, the international community watches closely to see how the EU and its member states will respond to these serious allegations and the mounting pressure from civil society. American Aid: Death Traps for Gazans and Engineered Starvation
DaysofPal – Thousands of starving civilians in Gaza had no idea that heading to receive aid in western Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip—hoping to feed their hungry children—would turn them into targets of mass death and slaughter. In a horrifying scene that underscores the brutality of the Israeli occupation, the so-called 'American aid distribution centers' have become death traps, where Palestinians are being killed twice—once by starvation, and again by bullets and bombs. At dawn on Sunday, civilians in Rafah witnessed one of the deadliest massacres yet, carried out by Israeli occupation forces under the newly introduced aid distribution mechanism. The assault left at least 31 civilians dead and over 200 injured. According to the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor, Israeli forces—along with a U.S.-founded organization—directed Palestinians to collect aid from the Rafah area, instructing them to wait until 6 a.m. to pass through checkpoints. Instead of receiving food, they were met with direct fire from Israeli quadcopter drones, tank shells, and gas canisters allegedly deployed by staff from the American organization. Harrowing Scenes The massacre and the graphic images of the victims lying in blood near the American-Israeli aid center in Rafah sparked outrage on social media. Thousands of Palestinian and Arab users expressed shock and grief, calling the attack a heinous crime against starving civilians. Activists have pointed to U.S. Middle East envoy Steve Wietkoff as a key figure behind the tragedy. They argue that his rapid dismissal of Hamas's response to a ceasefire proposal gave Israel a green light to escalate military operations. 'The American aid was soaked in blood… dozens of martyrs piled on top of each other, gunned down while waiting for food,' one user wrote. Death, Chaos, and Humiliation Salah Abdel Ati, head of the International Commission to Support the Palestinian People's Rights (ICSPR), condemned the attacks, saying Israel had turned aid distribution points into zones of 'death, chaos, and humiliation.' Speaking to Safa News Agency, Abdel Ati emphasized that targeting civilians under the guise of humanitarian aid amounts to a war crime and a deliberate act of genocide. Since the start of this aid mechanism on May 27, at least 49 civilians have been killed and over 305 injured in Rafah and the Wadi Gaza Bridge area, with many still missing. He described the mechanism as a tool of mass killing, meant to weaponize hunger, dismantle international humanitarian frameworks, and sideline agencies like UNRWA. He called on the UN, the international community, and the signatories of the Geneva Conventions to take immediate steps to stop this engineered famine and protect civilians. A Policy of Engineered Genocide According to political analyst Wissam Afifa, the massacre was not an isolated incident but part of a broader policy of 'engineered genocide' dressed in humanitarian language—planned in Washington and executed by Israel. Afifa noted that Steve Wietkoff's visit was not aimed at brokering a ceasefire, but at forcing through a deal aligned with Israeli security interests. His silence on the Rafah massacre, analysts argue, further confirms the U.S. is no longer a neutral broker but an active participant. 'Humanitarian Aid' as a Cover for Execution Political commentator Eyad Al-Qarra said that the events in Rafah expose the true face of the U.S. administration, which continues to market Wietkoff's initiative as a 'humanitarian solution' while simultaneously complicit in bloodshed. He referred to the so-called Wietkoff proposal as a diplomatic façade meant to impose Israeli terms, while aid centers have functioned as execution grounds. 'Today, the starving were murdered in cold blood—with a clear American fingerprint,' Al-Qarra said. 'Were the aid shipments meant to feed the hungry—or to gather and execute them?' Al-Qarra concluded that this was not a tragic accident, but a premeditated massacre, reportedly involving armed personnel from the American organization overseeing aid. 'Those who fund the occupation, offer it political cover, and manage its aid distribution cannot pretend to be humanitarian.' Shortlink for this post:
