Sabah BN must not fall for a 'second betrayal', says Ahmad Zahid
Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi reminded Barisan Nasional supporters to stay united and vigilant ahead of the upcoming state election.
KOTA KINABALU: Barisan Nasional members in Sabah must not fall for a 'second betrayal' in the upcoming 17th Sabah state election (PRN17), says its chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also Umno president, reminded all party members to remain united to help Barisan achieve victory in the election.
"Once is enough. Let's not be fooled a second time. Umno and Barisan in Sabah must be wiser this time in making our choices. Datuk Seri Bung, don't let them trick you again," he said, referring to the defection of several assemblymen in early 2023.
Speaking at the launch of the Gerak17 programme for the Kemabong state seat (N.43) at Dewan Sri Ontoros Kemabong, Tenom, today, Ahmad Zahid said from past experience, Sabah Barisan must learn to set aside their differences and avoid internal division.
"With leaders like Datuk Rahman Dahlan (Sabah Umno deputy chairman) supporting Datuk Seri Bung, I believe that if everyone stands united, Sabah can work together with Putrajaya," he said.
Sabah Barisan chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, along with other Barisan state and federal leaders, were also present at the event.
Ahmad Zahid's remarks referred to the five Barisan assemblymen who left the party on Feb 21, 2023, declaring their support for Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and joining Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah.
They are Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob (Sindumin), Datuk Jasnih Daya (Pantai Dalit), Datuk Mohd Arsad Bistari (Tempasuk), Datuk Hamid Awang (Balung), and Datuk James Ratib (Sugut).
Additionally, four Barisan assemblymen remain in the state government, holding positions in the state cabinet: Deputy Chief Minister III and Sabah Works Minister Datuk Shahelmey Yahya (Tanjung Keramat), Assistant Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation Datuk Harun Durabi (Bengkoka), Assistant Minister of Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship Datuk Andi Muhammad Suryady Bandy (Tanjong Batu), as well as the late Datuk Mohd Hamsan Awang Supain (Sungai Sibuga), who held the position of Assistant Local Government and Housing Minister until his passing on Jan 19.
The Sungai Sibuga seat has remained vacant since.
Of the 73 seats in the Sabah State Assembly, Barisan initially won 16 in the 16th general election, but now holds only 12, including three members in the state government.

Court orders KL land held by Dr Mahathir, Daim and others transferred to Umno
KUALA LUMPUR, June 24 — The High Court here has reportedly ordered the transfer of a 9,723 square metre parcel of land in Kuala Lumpur, where the Seri Pacific Hotel is located, to Umno within 30 days. According to a report in the New Straits Times today, Justice Roz Mawar Rozain reportedly made the order after Umno's counsel, Datuk Mohd Hafarizam Harun, informed the court that the party and the Federal Territories Land and Mines Office (PTG) had reached a settlement. In her consent judgment, the judge reportedly confirmed that the land — previously registered under former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the late Tun Daim Zainuddin, Tun Musa Hitam and the late Tan Sri Sanusi Junid — was held in trust for Umno. The property is identified as Grant 78154, Lot 40, Section 51, Kuala Lumpur. 'The land registered under the names of the trustees shall be vested and registered under Umno with full rights, interest and ownership in accordance with Section 9(b) of the Societies Act 1966,' she was quoted as saying. She also reportedly directed the PTG to execute and register the transfer within 30 days under Section 420 of the National Land Code. Datuk Mohd Hafarizam reportedly said the ruling resolved all issues, including objections from some trustees, and confirmed that PTG had consented to the application. According to the report, Umno executive secretary Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan filed the originating summons on March 6 through the legal firm Messrs Hafarizam Wan & Aisha Mubarak. In his affidavit, Sumali reportedly stated that Form Schedule 17, an application for consent to transfer, was signed by all four trustees on October 27, 2015, along with a statutory declaration dated October 22, 2015. According to the report, Umno owns 85.88 per cent of Seri Pacific Corp Sdn Bhd, which operates the hotel through RHB Nominees Sdn Bhd.

‘Don't need a middleman': Pakatan can work with GRS if they want, but Sabah BN wont, says Bung Moktar
KOTA KINABALU, June 24 — Sabah Umno chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin has rejected the idea of negotiating with Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) through intermediaries, insisting he does not need a middleman to decide whether to work with other political parties ahead of the state election. The Lamag assemblyman reiterated his position that cooperation with the incumbent GRS was 'impossible' unless they 'cleanse their souls' first. 'They can work with GRS. And we can work with Pakatan Harapan (PH), but between me and GRS, let that remain between us. I don't need a middleman,' Bung said when speaking to reporters after a women's empowerment programme organised by Majlis Amanah Rakyat here today, He was responding to a question about the Unity Government Secretariat's call for the three coalitions in the federal administration — Barisan Nasional (BN), PH, and GRS — to cooperate ahead of the state elections. Bung said there had been no meetings between BN and GRS, nor any one-on-one discussions between him and Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor. 'If we want to talk, we talk directly. But as of now — no meetings, no discussions. And frankly, there's no need,' he said. Bung said his stance stemmed from what he claimed were past betrayals and a lack of sincerity by the coalition led by Hajiji. 'It's not that I refuse (to work with GRS). If they change into a party that is sincere and honest, I might consider it. But if they don't change, it's impossible. 'We agree in the morning, but by afternoon you change it, and then you take what's been given to us — how is that sincere? Sincerity means sticking to your word. That is how you win over the people,' he said. Bung also took a jab at GRS leaders for shedding 'crocodile tears', saying he no longer trusted their word. He was ostensibly referring to a recent unverified video of Hajiji, circulated online, which showed him in tears during one of his party's conventions while claiming it was his last term as chief minister. In contrast, Bung said BN had a cordial relationship with Pakatan Harapan (PH), and although negotiations were still ongoing, election clashes were unlikely. 'We are working with PH. Negotiations are okay, just that some finer details still need to be worked out,' he said. When asked if seat negotiations had begun, Bung said BN would contest in constituencies it believed it could win. 'I haven't decided how many, but if I can win 40, I'll contest 40,' he said.

BN to contest Sabah polls under own logo, says Zahid
KOTA KINABALU, June 25 — Barisan Nasional (BN) will contest the Sabah state election using its own logo, while maintaining an open approach to cooperation with other political parties, its chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said. The Deputy Prime Minister and Umno president said that BN consistently engages with all parties, as the coalition believes in open politics. 'We hope all discussions will be positive. No door should be left wide open, and no door should be closed completely. This means there is always room for negotiation and engagement. 'BN will contest under the 'Dacing' symbol, but we do not reject collaboration with other political coalitions,' he told reporters after officiating the Sabah Women Empowerment programme at the Sabah International Convention Centre here yesterday. Also present were Deputy Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Rubiah Wang, Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki and Sabah Community Development Department (KEMAS) chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin. Ahmad Zahid said detailed discussions have yet to take place as the Sabah Legislative Assembly has not been dissolved, but engagements and negotiations will intensify when the time comes. On seat distribution, he said discussions have not reached that stage, but BN remains committed to avoiding clashes between coalition partners. 'The best way forward is to adopt an open attitude, and of course, it is better to seek more allies than to create adversaries,' he said.
