Chikkaballapur (Karnataka) [India], June 11 (ANI): Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday dismissed the BJP's demand for his resignation over the Bengaluru stampede, accusing the party of 'doing politics in everything.'
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah questioned as to why the BJP had not demanded the resignation of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath when a stampede occurred during the Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj earlier this year.
'40-50 people died in a stampede at Kumbh Mela. Did they demand the chief minister's resignation then? A bridge collapsed on the day of the inauguration, and 140 people died. Did they demand the Prime Minister's resignation then?' Siddaramaiah asked while talking to reporters here.
'The BJP has a habit of misleading people by telling lies and demanding resignations. The BJP does politics in everything,' he added.
Earlier, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi slammed the Karnataka government over the Bengaluru stampede that killed 11 people during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL victory celebrations.
Joshi demanded the immediate resignation of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, citing their 'irresponsible and insensitive' handling of the crowd.
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) team was officially felicitated by the Karnataka government on the grand steps of Vidhana Soudha (State Assembly) on June 4, before the stampede incident occurred at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Following the Bengaluru stampede that claimed 11 lives and left many injured, the Karnataka Government on June 5 suspended top police officials at the Cubbon Park Police Station and formed a one-man commission under a retired High Court Judge to probe the incident. (ANI)

Bengaluru: Chief minister Siddaramaiah has urged Chandrababu Naidu, his Andhra Pradesh counterpart, to withdraw the ban on transport of Totapuri mangoes from Karnataka into Chittoor district. The decision to write to Naidu came on Wednesday, a day after mango producers and farmers dumped their produce on streets of Srinivaspura in Kolar. "This abrupt and unilateral move has caused considerable hardship to mango growers in Karnataka, particularly those in the border regions who cultivate Totapuri mangoes in substantial quantities," Siddaramaiah said. He said farmers in border districts rely heavily on robust links with Chittoor-based processing and pulp extraction units for marketing their produce. He expressed concern that the AP decision may lead to avoidable tension and retaliatory measures, with stakeholders already expressing discontent that could potentially disrupt the inter-state movement of vegetables and agricultural commodities. Karnataka chief secretary Shalini Rajneesh had also previously written to her AP counterpart K Vijayanand, demanding that the state lift the ban. In her letter, she pointed out that Chittoor's district collector, in an order on June 7, had banned entry of 'Totapuri' mangoes from other states. "There is an apprehension that affected stakeholders in Karnataka may obstruct vegetable inflows from Andhra Pradesh, escalating into unnecessary inter-state tensions, something we must strive to avoid," the letter states. CM exhorts students to protect public property
Lucknow: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday exhorted students to protect public property, saying these are collective assets and damaging them harm the nation. "Do not damage national property. If someone is doing so, stop them. If you feel powerless, report it. Share a photo, we will handle the rest and recover the damages. Public property is national property and a collective responsibility," he said. He was speaking during a function to felicitate meritorious students, who excelled in state and national board exams, and the 68th National School Sports Competition 2024-25 held in Ranchi this Jan. Speaking about the transformation of education in UP, Yogi said over the past 8 years, the condition and working of schools and secondary education has changed dramatically. "Before 2017, basic education was in decline and secondary education was marred by widespread cheating. Earlier govts introduced two major 'businesses' in UP, one of cheating and the other of transfer-posting. Exam centres were operated on a wholesale basis for cheating. External candidates filled out forms, and someone else appeared in their place for the exams. Simultaneously, transfer and posting became an entire industry. The BJP govt cracked down on these industries and brought in fair practices," he said. Yogi added that at exam centres, various mechanisms like CCTV surveillance, boundary walls, adequate infrastructure, and proper furniture, have been put in place to prevent cheating. "Exams that used to stretch over two to three months are now completed within 13-14 days," he said. New Delhi: After a gap of two and a half years, the standing committee of got its chairperson and deputy chairperson, with BJP's Satya Sharma and Sunder Singh being elected to the respective positions on Thursday. It serves as the initial platform for examining administrative, monetary and operational matters. The committee holds the crucial role of preliminary examination and endorsement of proposals. Any proposal rejected at this stage does not advance to the house. The measure ensures that the house, under the mayor's leadership, can only deliberate on matters that have received prior recommendation from the standing committee.
