Chikkaballapur (Karnataka) [India], June 11 (ANI): Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday dismissed the BJP's demand for his resignation over the Bengaluru stampede, accusing the party of 'doing politics in everything.'
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah questioned as to why the BJP had not demanded the resignation of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath when a stampede occurred during the Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj earlier this year.
'40-50 people died in a stampede at Kumbh Mela. Did they demand the chief minister's resignation then? A bridge collapsed on the day of the inauguration, and 140 people died. Did they demand the Prime Minister's resignation then?' Siddaramaiah asked while talking to reporters here.
'The BJP has a habit of misleading people by telling lies and demanding resignations. The BJP does politics in everything,' he added.
Earlier, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi slammed the Karnataka government over the Bengaluru stampede that killed 11 people during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL victory celebrations.
Joshi demanded the immediate resignation of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, citing their 'irresponsible and insensitive' handling of the crowd.
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) team was officially felicitated by the Karnataka government on the grand steps of Vidhana Soudha (State Assembly) on June 4, before the stampede incident occurred at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Following the Bengaluru stampede that claimed 11 lives and left many injured, the Karnataka Government on June 5 suspended top police officials at the Cubbon Park Police Station and formed a one-man commission under a retired High Court Judge to probe the incident. (ANI)

Andhra's unilateral ban on mangoes against spirit of federalism: Siddaramaiah

Bengaluru: Chief minister Siddaramaiah has urged Chandrababu Naidu, his Andhra Pradesh counterpart, to withdraw the ban on transport of Totapuri mangoes from Karnataka into Chittoor district. The decision to write to Naidu came on Wednesday, a day after mango producers and farmers dumped their produce on streets of Srinivaspura in Kolar. In his letter, Siddaramaiah asked Naidu to intervene in the matter and issue directions to Chittoor district authorities to immediately revoke the ban. Siddaramaiah revealed that the AP govt has stationed multidisciplinary enforcement teams comprising personnel from revenue, police, forest, and marketing departments at inter-state checkposts adjoining Tamil Nadu and Karnataka to implement the ban. "This abrupt and unilateral move has caused considerable hardship to mango growers in Karnataka, particularly those in the border regions who cultivate Totapuri mangoes in substantial quantities," Siddaramaiah said. He said farmers in border districts rely heavily on robust links with Chittoor-based processing and pulp extraction units for marketing their produce. "The current restriction has disrupted this well-established supply chain and threatens significant post-harvest losses, directly impacting livelihoods of thousands of farmers. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Memperdagangkan CFD Emas dengan salah satu spread terendah? He expressed concern that the AP decision may lead to avoidable tension and retaliatory measures, with stakeholders already expressing discontent that could potentially disrupt the inter-state movement of vegetables and agricultural commodities. Karnataka chief secretary Shalini Rajneesh had also previously written to her AP counterpart K Vijayanand, demanding that the state lift the ban. In her letter, she pointed out that Chittoor's district collector, in an order on June 7, had banned entry of 'Totapuri' mangoes from other states. "There is an apprehension that affected stakeholders in Karnataka may obstruct vegetable inflows from Andhra Pradesh, escalating into unnecessary inter-state tensions, something we must strive to avoid," the letter states. She urged Vijayanand to "immediately intervene" and get the collector to revoke the order. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here . CM exhorts students to protect public property

Lucknow: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday exhorted students to protect public property, saying these are collective assets and damaging them harm the nation. "Do not damage national property. If someone is doing so, stop them. If you feel powerless, report it. Share a photo, we will handle the rest and recover the damages. Public property is national property and a collective responsibility," he said. He was speaking during a function to felicitate meritorious students, who excelled in state and national board exams, and the 68th National School Sports Competition 2024-25 held in Ranchi this Jan. Speaking about the transformation of education in UP, Yogi said over the past 8 years, the condition and working of schools and secondary education has changed dramatically. "Before 2017, basic education was in decline and secondary education was marred by widespread cheating. Earlier govts introduced two major 'businesses' in UP, one of cheating and the other of transfer-posting. Exam centres were operated on a wholesale basis for cheating. External candidates filled out forms, and someone else appeared in their place for the exams. Simultaneously, transfer and posting became an entire industry. The BJP govt cracked down on these industries and brought in fair practices," he said. Yogi added that at exam centres, various mechanisms like CCTV surveillance, boundary walls, adequate infrastructure, and proper furniture, have been put in place to prevent cheating. "Exams that used to stretch over two to three months are now completed within 13-14 days," he said. Highlighting the state of recruitment in the state, the CM said over 8 lakh were given govt jobs across sectors. On June 15, 60,244 police personnel will be receiving appointment letters in the presence of Union home minister Amit Shah. Among these, over 12,000 are women. Calling the result of the Board exams "surprising" where girls performed better than boys, the CM awarded Rs 1,00,000 in cash, a tablet, a certificate of appreciation, and a medal to students who ranked in the merit list. At the district level, meritorious students received Rs 21,000 in cash, a tablet, a certificate, and a medal. To the gold medalists of the National School Sports Competition, the govt awarded Rs 75,000 to gold winners, Rs 50,000 to silver and Rs 30,000 to bronze medalists. In team events, the prize money was Rs 35,000 for gold, Rs 25,000 for silver, and Rs 15,000 for bronze. The CM also laid the foundation stone for the new buildings of the UP Secondary Sanskrit Education Council, established in 2001, and its directorate. The new complex will cost Rs over 42 crore and will include a Sanskrit library, facilities for training, conversation and other programmes. A new building for the Government Girls Intermediate College will be constructed on Jagat Narayan Road in Lucknow under 'Project Alankar' at an outlay of Rs 48.92 crore. Alos, the govt has allocated Rs 10.36 crore for a new building of Government Girls Inter College, Malihabad. Around Rs 20 crore is being spent on two new Sanskrit schools with hostels in Chandauli and Bhadohi. The CM also announced an MoU between the secondary education department, Tata Nelco, and Japan's Yaskawa under which students will have the opportunity of learning skills along with academics. Under this initiative, the govt will establish design, robotics, and electronics labs in govt secondary schools, with an investment of Rs 162.72 crore. Based on the 'Hub and Spoke' model, one institution will house the lab and be connected with three other institutions. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here . Standing committee ready to work with two BJP councillors at helm

New Delhi: After a gap of two and a half years, the standing committee of got its chairperson and deputy chairperson, with BJP's Satya Sharma and Sunder Singh being elected to the respective positions on Thursday. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Following the elections, the formation of the standing committee was complete, which is expected to accelerate key development and administrative initiatives. The 18-member committee is the key panel that controls the finances of the civic body. Any project above Rs 5 crore needs its approval. Due to the absence of the committee, many policy matters and projects related to sanitation got stuck. Sharma, a councillor from Gautampuri in northeast Delhi, also served as the mayor in the erstwhile East Delhi Municipal Corporation. Sharma, a three-time councillor, polled 11 votes while AAP-nominated Praveen Kumar received seven votes. Deputy mayor candidate Singh also received 11 votes against seven votes by AAP's Mohini Jeenwal. BJP has a clear majority in the standing committee with 11 members. One of the projects that was delayed due to the non-formation of the committee was a redevelopment plan for Hari Nagar depots I and II, which function as CNG bus depots accommodating 230 buses. A multilevel structure has been proposed that would increase bus parking capacity to 384 vehicles while creating 2 lakh square feet of commercial space on upper floors for sale. Several development projects over Rs 5 crore are also waiting for a nod, including finalising an agency for door-to-door garbage collection in the central and west zones, opening a dog park, engaging a new toll tax operator, and Shahjahanabad Interpretation Centre. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The work for finalising the layout plan for projects belonging to various agencies is also pending. The standing committee, comprising elected councillors, possesses substantial financial and administrative authority. It has six members directly chosen from the MCD house while the remaining 12 members represent the 12 municipal zones. It serves as the initial platform for examining administrative, monetary and operational matters. The committee holds the crucial role of preliminary examination and endorsement of proposals. Any proposal rejected at this stage does not advance to the house. The measure ensures that the house, under the mayor's leadership, can only deliberate on matters that have received prior recommendation from the standing committee.
