Keith man who hurled homophobic abuse at constables handed unpaid work
Jamie Skene, 28, had been collared by constables on July 24 last year when they spotted him and a group of young people in an area of Batchen Street in Elgin.
They noted a smell of cannabis, which Skene indicated was coming from him, but when they moved to begin detaining those in attendance he launched into his tirade. 'The use of homophobic and degrading language'
Fiscal depute Victoria Silver said his ranting soon turned to physical aggression, as he kicked and headbutted a dividing screen in the rear of the police vehicle.
'His behaviour is described as escalating and he's threatened to bite a police officer when he got out of the van,' she added.
'He's then struck his head again off the Perspex glass and shouted he was going to bite and harm them.
'He's obviously been instructed to desist. However, his behaviour has continued with the use of homophobic and degrading language.'
Ms Silver said actions would continue at Elgin police station, where he was taken following his arrest. 'Completely lost his temper'
Skene's defence solicitor, Megan Lee, told the court he had turned to 'substances' as a way of coping with his personal circumstances, which included lack of access to his child.
'Mr Skene was initially the cooperative member of this group. He did not run from law enforcement, he engaged with them, but he concedes he had completely lost his temper when a female member of the group was arrested,' she said.
Ms Lee added Skene, whose previous convictions were not detailed in court, had completed his last two court orders.
In addition to 100 hours of unpaid work, which Skene, of Den Crescent, will be made to complete over the next six months, Sheriff Olga Pasportnikov ordered him to fall under the supervision of the social work department for the next year and to engage with the Arrow programme.
The Arrow programme helps provide advice and information to people with drug issues.

Eight-year-old girl seriously injured in holiday party horror
An eight-year-old girl had her arm cut down to the bone after glass fell on her during a swimming pool party in Turkey. Sienna Crank was having 'the time of her life' in Turkey with 17 members of her family when she was badly injured at the Green Nature Resort and Spa in Marmaris. The eight-year-old was enjoying the foam party in the packed-out pool when a large piece of single-pane glass was blown off a DJ booth, and a large shard hit Sienna on her arm. Others were also injured in the incident, which happened last month, but Sienna is thought to have been the most seriously injured. She was rushed to the hospital, where the doctor told her she had been millimetres away from having tendons severed. Sienna from Bolton continues to be traumatised by what happened, her mother said, and will live with lifelong scarring to her arm. "Surely it is common sense not to have glass on a DJ stand next to a pool – you can't even have glass for your drinks. It was probably an accident waiting to happen, I can't believe they didn't see the massive risk,' her mother, Joanne Chadwick, said. 'The DJ booth was carried in just for the foam party, it wasn't there all the time, so it wouldn't even have been properly secured. It was quite a windy day, and with all the people having a good time, it was a huge risk to have glass around.' 'This has left us devastated, and of course, it ruined our holiday. Sienna will be left with the scars and memories of this for the rest of her life,' Ms Chadwick added. The incident happened in the afternoon of 7 June, when Sienna and her family were six days into their 10-day break. Ms Chadwick, a mother-of-four, had gone back to her sunbed to get a towel when she saw people running over to her. 'I ran to Sienna and saw the cut on her arm. It was absolutely horrific and I remember screaming for someone to call an ambulance,' she said. 'You could see the bone, that's how deep the cut was – I still remember it every day, and can't stop thinking about what if the glass had been a little bit higher and hit her throat. It absolutely haunts me.' After being rushed to a hospital in Marmaris, Sienna received stitches both inside the cut and on the surface of her skin. Doctors told her she had been 'very lucky' not to have been more seriously injured. Since returning home, Sienna has been left deeply afraid of glass. 'When we went to the hospital to get her stitches taken out, she was convinced the Perspex screen behind her was going to shatter on her,' Ms Chadwick said. The nine-year-old is also expected to be left with a permanent scar on her arm. 'Being an image-conscious girl already, of course, that is going to be awful for her as she gets older. This whole thing has been absolutely horrific,' her mother added. Ms Chadwick is now taking legal action against Easyjet Holidays, the travel operator they used for their holiday. Darren Dyke, lawyer at Slater and Gordon, said: 'What was a fun-filled family holiday turned to horror in a split second for Sienna and her loved ones – this wholly avoidable incident could have been fatal through the lack of care or awareness in installing a mobile glass DJ stand. It doesn't bear thinking about what could have happened. 'Sienna and her family are, of course, devastated by what happened and understandably want answers and accountability. We will support them in every way possible to achieve that.' An easyJet holidays spokesperson said: 'The safety and wellbeing of all customers is a priority, which is why we ensure all of the hotels we offer meet our high health and safety standards. As this case is now a legal matter, we're unable to comment further.'

Mystery person in big cat 'gimp' costume terrifies locals in Merseyside
The mystery figure has been spotted by a number of locals around Wallasey Beach (Picture: Facebook/Abbie Gilbert) A person dressed in a catsuit has been terrorising locals after being spotted prowling along secluded paths in Merseyside. The figure, dressed in a skin-tight black cat suit and mask, was captured on camera meowing and writhing on the ground near Wallasey Beach. Footage shows the person wriggling under a fence near a Harvester pub and prancing along a path. Another video shows people in a car screaming as the figure approaches close by. Residents claim he resembles a 'banshee,' 'urban jaguar' and even a 'gimp' and locals like Abbie Gilbert have had enough. When she shone her torchlight on the figure she saw the man crawling up the hill on all fours. She said: 'I didn't feel scared really, he was just waving his arms and making panther noises. I felt more confused than scared.' Others locals have seen the funny side to it all (Picture: Facebook) Others have seen the funny side, with one posting on Facebook: 'I went through a stage of doing this year's ago but I've now got through it, don't ask MEOW!'. Another joked: 'Hi, this is my cat. He isn't chipped and is quite skittish, we've been missing him for a few days so please don't approach again. We're hoping he comes back home soon, my wife's boyfriend is worried sick'. Merseyside Police and Crime Commissioner Emily Spurrell said she hoped anyone with concerns would report them to the police. Metro has contacted Merseyside Police for comment. The person bears a striking similarity to the 'Somerset gimp' who terrified locals in Bleadon, near Weston-super-Mare, in May 2023. It was revealed that Joshua Hunt, 32, was the man behind the gimp mask and was banned for five years from wearing masks, dressing in all-in-one black outfits at night and 'crawling, wriggling or writhing on the ground'.
