Kris Boyd offers Rangers reality check on Mikey Moore
It is one that is creating some excitement but Boyd has offered some realism. The former Rangers striker reckons the pressures of moving on loan to either half of the Old Firm makes it very different to heading out further down the food chain in England, which tends to be the norm for young players down south.
He said: 'Moore's a young boy who'll be looking for an opportunity to kick on but there's a little bit of a risk attached to a first loan move.
'He's shown in any opportunities he's had at Tottenham that he has a chance.
'But it can be difficult because a lot of Premier League players in England who go out on loan go to a level where they've got time to adapt, whether it's the Championship or other teams who don't have to play under the same pressure as [[Rangers]] and Celtic have."
Russell Martin has repeatedly vowed that his squad will look different by the time the transfer window closes and you get the feeling there is plenty movement still to be done.
That includes out the way and last season's two main strikers, Cyriel Dessers and Hamza Igamane, could both be on the way out with interest in their services from the continent.
Boyd would like to see that situation resolved quickly given it is one of the most important areas of any team.
"The Cyriel Dessers and Hamza Igamane situation needs to be addressed one way or another," he insisted.

'Everybody needs clarity on that pretty quickly.
'The league starts on Saturday and your two most important players on the pitch are your goalkeeper and your number nine.
'Rangers are no further forward as to who their number nine is - the top goalscorer from last season is still being linked with moves away, he's not played a lot of football, and he's still got a level of fitness to get to.
'For me, there's still no guarantee who's going to be that number nine for Rangers.
'If Mikey Moore is to come in, it's a big ask for him to come in and be Rangers' number nine and lead the attack.
'But Russell Martin will say he does need reinforcements in the forward area."
Martin's first competitive game brought a positive result, beating Panathinaikos 2-0 in Champions League qualifying. But his team were not fully convincing and had the help of a red card for visiting defender Georgios Vagiannidis.
Boyd reckons there is plenty of work to be done to get to where the new manager wants, especially with the expansive style of play he is attempting to implement.
The pundit added: "If you go on last week's performance against Panathinaikos, there's still a bit of work to be done for Rangers.
'With Russell Martin coming in and implementing a new style, it's not going to be fixed overnight and there's no doubt there were going to be some teething problems and that's going to be the case for a number of weeks.
'When you're coming in and you want to implement the style of play that he wants, you're going to make mistakes.
'There's going to be scary moments within the games."

Man Utd transfer news: Ollie Watkins' feelings clear on move as another striker ruled out
Manchester United have turned their attention to Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins as they look to sign a centre-forward in the summer transfer window for Ruben Amorim Manchester United are determined to sign a striker before the Premier League season begins. Ruben Amorim has already been given much-needed attacking reinforcements in the summer transfer window, but there's still a missing piece of the puzzle. Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo have arrived for a combined fee of £133.5million, but United are in real need of more goals. Cunha scored 15 goals in the Premier League last season for Wolves, while Mbeumo struck 20 for Brentford, yet neither are comfortable as a No.9. That is where United have been trying to find a new player. But with no European football to offer targets, having finished a lowly 15th last season, they missed out on Liam Delap to Chelsea, Hugo Ekitike to Liverpool and Viktor Gyokeres to Arsenal. All is not lost yet. The summer transfer window remains open until September 1, but Amorim is preparing for their opening Premier League game against Arsenal on August 17, when his old Sporting Lisbon player Gyokeres will be unleashed against him. Here are the latest transfer stories from Mirror Football involving United. Watkins keen on Man Utd move Ollie Watkins is Manchester United's No.1 choice in their pursuit of a centre-forward, Mirror Football understands. Benjamin Sesko has been considered, but the RB Leipzig striker isn't considered as good an option as Watkins, who is an experienced Premier League striker. United are, however, unwilling to pay Aston Villa's £60m valuation for the England star. Instead, they hope to negotiate down to around £40-45m for the 29-year-old forward. One of the things in their favour is that Watkins is understood to be keen on the move. While he has been an important player for Villa in recent years, he has clashed with Unai Emery over selection in the Champions League and would undoubtedly be the main man at United, where rotation would be less of an issue. Dortmund emerge as Sancho option Jadon Sancho had appeared to be set for a move to Juventus, but a third spell at Borussia Dortmund is now thought to be a serious possibility for the winger. Sancho is part of the bomb squad at United, having been told he has no future at the club under Amorim's management. He had agreed terms with Fenerbahce last month, before that move collapsed. Next came Juventus, with the Italian side thought to be close to signing the 25-year-old for £21.6m. According to reports, United could now flog Sancho to Dortmund for £15-17m, giving him a third spell at the club. Sancho made his name in Germany initially, joining United for £73m on the back of his form there, and also spent time on loan at Dortmund in 2024. Jackson off the cards Manchester United won't be signing Nicolas Jackson from Chelsea this summer. Jackson is exploring his options after the arrivals of Joao Pedro and Liam Delap left him contemplating a season on the bench. United held talks with his agent, but Chelsea's asking price has put them off. The Blues floated the figure of £100million, with an actual valuation of £80m still way too high for the Senegal international, who has a typically ludicrous but classic Chelsea contract expiry date of June 2033. Watkins is now United's No.1 target, with Sesko another option. United have spoken to Sesko's agent, but he is younger, more inexperienced and has no Premier League experience.

Reports: Whitecaps closing in on deal with Thomas Muller
July 30 - The Vancouver Whitecaps are finalizing a deal to sign former Bayern Munich star Thomas Muller, according to multiple reports. Vancouver's next step in closing the deal, which would be its highest-profile signing in team history, is to acquire Muller's discovery rights. Discovery rights allow MLS clubs to negotiate with players outside of the league, and prohibit other clubs from negotiating with the player. FC Cincinnati currently hold Muller's discovery rights, but the World Cup winner reportedly declined an offer to join FC Cincinnati in April. Per The Athletic and ESPN, Vancouver is close to finalizing a trade for the discovery rights, in exchange for $400,000 in General Allocation Money. Muller, 35, played 17 seasons for Bayern Munich of the Bundesliga. He tallied 250 goals, 756 appearances and 33 trophies -- including a pair of Champions League titles and 13 league titles -- during one of the most illustrious tenures in club history. The attacking midfielder and forward also notched 45 goals and 131 caps for Germany. The Whitecaps (13-5-6, 45 points) are second in the MLS Western Conference right now, sitting one point behind San Diego FC for the conference lead. --Field Level Media

Forgotten former Man United star makes first appearance in 578 days - as he goes on trial with new English club after dangerous driving sentence
Former Manchester United player Brandon Williams, who was sentenced for dangerous driving, has made his first appearance in 19 months. The full-back came on as a substitute for Hull City, where he is on trial, during their 2-1 friendly win over Sunderland on Tuesday night. In May Williams was handed a 14-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, after crashing his Audi A3 at almost 100mph on August 20, 2023. The 24-year-old, who was once paid £3.4million a year as a promising young defender, had been 'driving erratically' in his Audi A3 before hitting a Ford Fiesta and careering into the central reservation of the A34 in Cheshire. On Tuesday, Championship side Hull gave him 15 minutes off the bench for his first outing since he played on loan for Ipswich against QPR in a 0-0 draw in December 2023. Williams said in May that he wanted to be '100 per cent focused' on his football again and 'kick on' with a new club, wherever that may be. 'It hurts me watching football now because I just want to be there, I just want to play. I miss being in a team, on the coach, travelling to games, having meals together and just doing things,' he said. 'I want to have that feeling again of winning and being around the changing room environment. 'I've had loads of teams trying to get me out - America, Europe and England - but I haven't been ready. I want to go somewhere 100 per cent focused and kick on. 'I would like to experience that different culture. I'm only 24 so I could do three or four years abroad. Definitely Europe at a good club or an upcoming club.' Williams admitted he had been trying to show off to a female passenger who was sitting next to him, and a witness is said to have filmed him with a balloon by his mouth. Prosecutors said it was 'fortunate' nobody was seriously injured or killed. Judge Eric Lamb also banned Williams from driving for three years and ordered him to do 180 hours of unpaid work. The homegrown Man United talent announced last June that he would leave the club at the end of his contract, and when the incident took place - in August 2023 - Williams had been on loan at Ipswich Town.
