Gamuda on track to exceed project wins this year
CGS International Research (CGSI Research) said Gamuda, whose single-largest shareholder is the Employees Provident Fund, had already achieved an order book of RM37.2bil as of end-June, following its latest contract win worth RM3.72bil in Taiwan announced recently.
The contract to build a wharf and connecting bridges for the Kaohsiung Port Intercontinental LNG Terminal Construction Project was secured by its joint-venture company.
Given its 70% majority stake in the company, the revenue attributable to Gamuda from the five-year contract is estimated at RM2.6bil.
'We expect one more Taiwan contract win by the end of this year worth about RM3bil, which is part of the additional provisional amount for its RM3.1bil Xizhi Donghu Mass Rapid Transit turnkey construction project in Taiwan that it won last October.
'This project came with already determined additional work of eight billion New Taiwan dollars or about RM10.8bil. Gamuda's 75% share is worth RM8.1bil.
'Including the latest Taiwan order and assuming it wins the local projects it is targeting, we estimate Gamuda will end this year with an order book of RM42.2bil, factoring a burn rate of RM1bil per month.
'This does not include other potential awards in Taiwan, Australia the Penang light rail transit project and the Perak to Penang water transfer project,' the research house said.
Meanwhile, MIDF Research expects about RM11bil to RM15bil of new wins for Gamuda. Of the high percentage of wins that the management guided for in a previous analyst briefing in March, about RM24bil worth of contracts remain, MIDF Research said.
'We expect the new wins to come from seven tenders submitted for data centres, a Sabah water project worth RM4bil, additional work on the Xizhi Donghu transit project, and potential contract conversion from early contractor involvement jobs for renewable energy in Australia.
'We believe there may also be a potential variation order from the Sydney Metro West tunnelling project that was halted for two months due to proximity to the foundations of an existing building.'
The research house also noted that Gamuda's project pipeline for next year looks healthy, with the construction giant being shortlisted for several projects in Australia and New Zealand, such as the Parramatta Integrated Station Development, Sunshine Coast Railway in Brisbane and the 26-km Warkworth to Te Hana section of the Northland Expressway in New Zealand.
With the latest contract win, the share of Taiwanese projects on Gamuda's order book jumped to RM9.9bil, or 27% of its total work, slightly behind Australia at 28%.
Nevertheless, CIMB Research said Malaysia continues to be Gamuda's largest construction market, accounting for 39% of its order book. 'We make no changes to our earnings forecast, as the latest win already forms part of our new contract assumptions for this year.
'There is upside to our earnings projections if Gamuda maintains its robust contract delivery and exceeds our win assumptions of RM20bil annually for both this year and next year,' it said. Of the three research firms, CGSI Research had the highest target price of RM6 per share.

Gamuda set to exceed RM45bil orderbook target on strong domestic momentum
KUALA LUMPUR: Gamuda Bhd is set to exceed its RM40 billion to RM45 billion order book target for the year, underpinned by solid progress on domestic project wins. CGS International projects the group could close 2024 with an estimated RM42 billion in secured contracts, excluding a pipeline of high-value opportunities still in play. According to the research house, the estimate does not account for potential wins in Taiwan and Australia, nor major domestic contracts such as the Penang Light Rail Transit (LRT) system and the Inter-State Water Transfer project from Perak to Penang. Securing any of these additional projects would further boost Gamuda's order book, potentially pushing it well beyond current projections, it said in a note. "We expect one more Taiwan win by the end of the calendar year 2025. Moving into calendar year 2026, the pipeline looks promising, as it has three early contractor involvement (ECI) renewable energy projects in Australia. "It has also been shortlisted for the Parramatta Integrated Stations tender in New South Wales, the Northland Corridor highway project in New Zealand and the Sunshine Coast Railway project in Brisbane, Australia," it said. As of June 2025, Gamuda's order book stood at RM37.2 billion, with contract wins year-to-date amounting to RM18.4 billion. The firm has revised its valuation method for the group, switching from a sum-of-parts approach to a market capitalisation-to-order book ratio. It now assumes a sustainable order book of RM42.5 billion, the midpoint of Gamuda's calendar year 2025 guidance of RM40 billion to RM45 billion and has set a new target price of RM7.30, based on a 1.0 times ratio. According to the firm, Gamuda's average adjusted market cap-to-order book ratio stands at 1.2 times.

Water rate hike to benefit companies in sector
CIMB Research said the tariff adjustments help negate a sharp rise in electricity costs and other water-related operating expenses for water treatment plant operators. PETALING JAYA: With an upcoming revision of water tariff rates, investors looking for exposure to water infrastructure-related stocks should look to the listed operators and the ones involved in water-related infrastructure construction, analysts say. The rate revision covers nearly all of Peninsular Malaysia and Labuan from Aug 1. CIMB Research said the immediate beneficiaries include Ranhill Utilities Bhd and PBA Holdings Bhd , being the only listed water operators on Bursa Malaysia. The research house has selected Gamuda Bhd as the preferred play for water-related infrastructure construction pending updates on the private sector's role in the country's water sector transformation. It noted that Gamuda 'is in a strong position to secure construction work worth RM4bil from the water supply schemes for Ulu Padas in Sabah, and Northern Perak', with work for the latter scheme to be carried out on a privatisation basis for a minimum of 40 years. Gamuda can be expected to be in the running for more jobs under the second phase of the Rasau water supply scheme in Terengganu after taking on the main contractor role for the scheme's water treatment plant worth RM2bil. For bulk water transfer, Engtex Group Bhd , one of only two domestic producers of large-diameter mild steel concrete-lined pipes up to 3m in diameter and the sole local producer of ductile iron pipes of up to 1.2m is well-positioned to meet future demand for large-diameter pipe infrastructure, the research house added. For flood mitigation, the research house suggests IJM Corp Bhd and Malaysian Resources Corp Bhd, with 'buy' recommendations and target prices of RM3.70 and 83 sen, respectively. 'In our view, the latest revision in water tariffs provides more room for the water operators to upgrade water infrastructure, accelerate the replacement of ageing pipes, and reduce non-revenue water. The tariff adjustments also help negate a sharp rise in electricity costs and other water-related operating expenses for water treatment plant operators,' it said. CIMB Research said despite the revision in the water tariff, funding from the private sector would still be required to help reduce the government's financial obligations to facilitate water-related investments required under the Water Sector Transformation Plan 2040.
