This isn't your average college football ranking.
My Ultimate 136 is a set of rankings that is fluid, but it's my job to look ahead and make a claim for all FBS teams based on what I know and why I know it. Here are the three pressing questions I started by asking when putting together this list:
Who do I think is good?
Why do I think they're good?
What are the chances they will finish above or below my expectations?
Here is a look at where South Florida lands in my Ultimate 136.
USF ranking: 87
Last year's ranking: 70
Top player: QB Byrum Brown: Posted the first 3,000 passing yard season in school history in 2023 as well as throwing a school record 26 TD passes; in five games last season, threw for 836 yards and ran for 269, with 2 TD passes and 3 TD rushes.
[South Florida's 2025 schedule]
RJ's take: If Byrum Brown earns the start after suffering a season-ending injury last season, it's not hard to see Alex Golesh's Bulls increasing their 2024 season win total from seven. With the addition of former Charlotte RB Cartevious Norton and Oklahoma RB Sam Franklin, the run-game could be the most explosive yet in Tampa.

Defensive coordinator Todd Orlando is gonna send 'em, and he's gonna have his unit hunting for fumbles and balls in the air. It's a gambler's defense. But when he catches a run of the right looks it can be as hot as any in the country. Add to this 13 players who've played more than 200 snaps and 10 upperclassmen out of the portal all on defense, and you can see the vision for a dictating-terms defense.

USF Win Total Odds: Over 6.5 (-128) Under 6.5 (+104)

Bulls blockbuster three-team trade idea lands All-Star forward for 20.4 PPG scorer
Bulls blockbuster three-team trade idea lands All-Star forward for 20.4 PPG scorer originally appeared on The Sporting News It's no secret that the Chicago Bulls are in the midst of a rebuild after a failed era with Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan and Lonzo Ball. Several players from that early-2020s roster remain, including Nikola Vucevic, Ayo Dosunmu, Patrick Williams and Coby White. However, all four have been mentioned in trade speculation to some extent as the club navigates its reset. MORE: Bulls trade pitch sends $90 million forward to Raptors for RJ Barrett Alan Goldsher of recently proposed a mock trade designed to accelerate the Bulls' rebuild, with one of those four players heading to an Eastern Conference foe. Here's Goldsher's proposed trade: Bulls receive: Scottie Barnes Heat receive: Coby White, Zach Collins, 2027 lottery protected first-round pick (via CHI) Raptors receive: Tyler Herro, 2028 lottery protected first-round pick (via MIA) In this mock trade, the Bulls would receive an All-Star-caliber player in Barnes, who has averaged 19.6 points, 7.9 rebounds, 5.9 assists, 1.4 blocks and 1.3 steals across 33.8 minutes per game in the past two seasons. While it appears unlikely the Raptors would part with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft — especially after signing him to a five-year, $224.2 million extension last July — Herro would significantly strengthen the club's backcourt. With Immanuel Quickley coming off an injury-ridden campaign, acquiring a proven guard to pair with RJ Barrett and Brandon Ingram could make sense as they push for the playoffs in a wide-open Eastern Conference. For the Heat, White's expiring contract offers financial flexibility next offseason, along with a potential first-round pick. While that return might not be enough to justify moving Herro following his first All-Star nod, the framework could appeal to the Heat if they want to shed salary. Chicago has backcourt options but could use more assistance on the wing, and Barnes' versatility and ability to stuff the stat sheet would be extremely beneficial for the Bulls in fast-tracking their rebuild. AP Top 25: Texas No. 1 In Preseason Poll, Setting Up Top-3 Matchup vs. Ohio State
College Football AP Top 25: Texas No. 1 In Preseason Poll, Setting Up Top-3 Matchup vs. Ohio State Updated Aug. 11, 2025 12:19 p.m. ET share facebook x reddit link When Texas and Ohio State meet in Columbus on Aug. 30 (noon ET on FOX and the FOX Sports app), it'll likely be for the No. 1 ranking in the nation. Texas received the No. 1 ranking in the AP Top 25 college football preseason poll for the 2025 season, which was unveiled on Monday. Ohio State, meanwhile, received the No. 3 ranking, nearly giving us the first-ever Week 1 matchup between the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the nation in the history of the AP poll. Penn State was ranked second between Texas and Ohio State. [Related: RJ Young's Ultimate 136 college football rankings] Texas received its No. 1 ranking after two appearances in the College Football Playoff semifinals in each of the last two years, earning 25 of the 65 first-place votes. It also received the No. 1 ranking as Arch Manning is set to take over at quarterback for the 2025 season. Manning, a redshirt sophomore, sat behind Quinn Ewers the last two seasons, but briefly played in 2024, recording 939 passing yards, two interceptions, 108 rushing yards and 13 total touchdowns. As for Ohio State, it received the No. 3 overall ranking after winning its first national championship under head coach Ryan Day last season. Fourteen players from that team were selected in the 2025 NFL Draft, including quarterback Will Howard and wide receiver Emeka Egbuka. But the Buckeyes arguably have the two best players in college football entering 2025, with wide receiver Jeremiah Smith and safety Caleb Downs returning. Julian Sayin and Lincoln Kienholz are battling for the starting quarterback job. Ohio State got 11 first-place votes. Penn State nearly got the No. 1 overall ranking. It earned 23 first-place votes and was only five points shy of Texas' point total. The Nittany Lions return quarterback Drew Allar, along with running backs Nicholas Singleton and Kaytron Allen, helping them receive their highest ranking a AP Top 25 preseason poll since 1997. ADVERTISEMENT Clemson, which returns quarterback Cade Klubnik and several stars on defense, earned the No. 4 ranking, receiving four first-place votes. Georgia rounds out the top five, receiving one first-place vote. Notre Dame, Oregon (which got the final first-place vote), Alabama, LSU and Miami round out the top 10. The SEC leads all conferences with 10 teams in the preseason Top 25, most ever by a conference and one more than a year ago. The SEC has four teams in the top 10 for the second straight year. The Big Ten, which has won the last two national championships, has two of the top three teams in the poll for the third straight year and six in the Top 25 for the third year in a row. Four Big 12 teams are ranked, with defending conference champion Arizona State the highest at No. 11. The Atlantic Coast Conference has three. Poll nuggets Texas will try to become the 12th team to start and finish No. 1 since the AP preseason poll debuted in 1950. The last team to do it was Alabama in 2017. Notre Dame is in the preseason top 10 for the third time in four years. The Fighting Irish will have a new quarterback, CJ Carr or Kenny Minchey. The two played a combined eight snaps last season as Notre Dame went all the way to the CFP title game won by Ohio State. With Boise State at No. 25, all 12 teams in the 2024 College Football Playoff are ranked in the preseason. The Mountain West's Broncos are the first team from a Group of Five conference to crack the preseason Top 25 since Tulane was No. 24 in 2023. No. 16 SMU, which returns quarterback Kevin Jennings from its CFP team, is in the preseason Top 25 for the first time in 40 years. The 1985 team was No. 3 and finished 6-5 and unranked. Here's the full top 25: 1. Texas 2. Ohio State 3. Penn State 4. Clemson 5. Georgia 6. Notre Dame 7. Oregon 8. Alabama 9. LSU 10. Miami (Fla.) 11. Arizona State 12. Illinois 13. South Carolina 14. Bulls Reportedly Offered Josh Giddey Four-Year, $80 Million Deal
Bulls Reportedly Offered Josh Giddey Four-Year, $80 Million Deal originally appeared on Fadeaway World. The Chicago Bulls' offseason has featured only a handful of storylines, with one of them being the re-signing of their guard, Josh Giddey. As a restricted free agent, Giddey has faced some challenges in securing a new contract. But NBA insider Jake Fischer recently shed more light on the situation. Fischer claimed that the Bulls had offered Giddey a four-year deal, worth $80 million. He wrote: "League sources say that the Bulls made an offer of $80 million over four years to restricted free agent Josh Giddey when the offseason commenced on June 30. Giddey, of course, is seeking an annual salary in the $30 million range. Chicago has been anchored in the $20 million range in annual value ever since its original offer." The offer presented by Chicago is the standard deal for most restricted free agents this season, except for rare cases like Cam Thomas. The general figure of $20 million a year appears to be the trend. Unfortunately, this is not something that Giddey appears to be interested in. It is a widely known fact that the Bulls guard has been seeking a deal that amounts to a rough estimate of $30 million a year. Given the state of most teams concerning the luxury tax aprons, franchises have been hesitant to make an offer of this nature. This has resulted in prolonged negotiations with neither side willing to budge. Considering that no deal has been signed, it is evident that Giddey isn't satisfied with the Bulls' offer. This leaves the door open for potential trade discussions. Recent reports have suggested that the Golden State Warriors could be inclined to trade for Giddey. The Warriors could trade Jonathan Kuminga for the Bulls guard, allowing the Dubs to add a multifaceted playmaker. Given the Warriors' predicaments involving their restricted free agent, there may be some roadblocks. In the overall sense, however, acquiring Giddey could be in Golden State's best interests. At 6'8" and only 22 years old, Giddey is an extremely talented guard. Given his expansive offensive skill set, he is sure to bring a lot of versatility and creativity to the table. Last season, the Bulls guard recorded an average of 14.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 7.2 assists, while shooting 46.5% from the field and 37.8% from three-point range. While the interest from the Warriors appears to be genuine, the Bulls may also wish to invest in retaining a player like him. Although the franchise doesn't have a direction at the moment, Chicago has the potential to improve. Featuring a young core, with players like Matas Buzelis and Coby White, the Bulls would benefit from retaining Giddey to develop into a competitive side in the story was originally reported by Fadeaway World on Aug 11, 2025, where it first appeared.
