Collingwood star Bobby Hill set to play VFL as coach Craig McRae admits there is ‘still work to be done'
Accustomed to playing at the MCG, the gun duo will line up with AFL premiership teammate Billy Frampton in the Magpies' VFL side against the Dolphins at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night.
De Goey has exited concussion protocols after previously battling Achilles inflammation, which had sidelined him since the start of May.
The explosive midfielder has played just five games this season, but is set to take a significant step towards featuring in the ladder leaders' premiership push.
'We're excited for what that looks like,' McRae said on Friday when confirming De Goey's VFL comeback.
'He'll get some game time. He's been out for I don't even know how many weeks, but we're excited to have Jordy back, fit and available.
'There's always an element of risk with all things but, based on the last three or four weeks of training, he looks really fit and strong.'
Hill's return is another positive sign for Collingwood after the Norm Smith medallist sat out the last four weeks due to personal reasons and illness.
'There's still work to be done,' McRae said.
'You can't say that with what he's been going through, it's just going to be flick a switch and things change.
'But the reality is, it's good to see him back training. He's been back at work for the last week and a half, and training hard.
'So we want to see that transfer to match fitness and then we will progress from there.'
Dan Houston (abdominal strain) and Tim Membrey (managed) will return at AFL level as Collingwood seek to arrest a two-match losing skid against Richmond at the MCG on Sunday.
Meanwhile, McRae will be 'heavily involved' in discussions around potential off-season recruits, with Collingwood strongly linked to a play for Carlton's Jack Silvagni.
'Unrestricted free agents are something that we want to continue to explore,' McRae said.
'Whether it's Jack or someone else, we'll step into that because we don't want to stand still.
'We want to be better than what we are now next year and we'll look to avenues to bring players in.'
Hawthorn coach Sam Mitchell ruffled feathers when he met with West Coast captain Oscar Allen earlier this year, but McRae would have no qualms sitting down with Silvagni.
The link between Silvagni - from a famous Carlton family - and the Blues' arch-rivals Collingwood has caused outrage in sections of the clubs' supporter bases.
'I would meet with Jack, yeah, if that was something that was important to us,' McRae said.

Pies coach McRae defends Moore, confirms major team changes

Collingwood coach Craig McRae has flagged major changes to the club's defence against a tall Hawks forward line on Thursday but defended captain Darcy Moore's recent performances. McRae concedes his team has real concerns after being bashed up in close against the Lions and shredded by six-goal hero Logan Morris. Moore again had his colours lowered by a young key tall after Patrick Voss kicked six goals against the Pies two weeks ago, many of them on the Pies captain. Billy Frampton impressed in the VFL on Saturday in his second game back after recovering from a calf injury and seems likely to replace Charlie Dean. And Jeremy Howe should take on Hawthorn, set to join full training on Tuesday after a groin issue and then sickness last week that saw his return to the senior side delayed. But the Pies have only a single full training session on Tuesday and plenty of concerns to rectify. Former Adelaide captain Rory Sloane said on Sunday the Collingwood midfield was 'bullied' by Brisbane, as veterans Steele Sidebottom and Scott Pendlebury failed to shine. Essendon champion Matthew Lloyd also told Nine he was 'concerned about Darcy Moore' given he failed to tighten up when a rival forward had the ascendancy. Coach Craig McRae said he was an eternal optimist but after three losses in four games he conceded some of the defensive issues were real. Former AFL draftee Sam Ramsay diagnosed with rare cancer after back injury
North Adelaide have rallied around midfielder Sam Ramsay after the former Carlton AFL draftee learned of a devastating cancer diagnosis. The 24-year-old was struck down by back pain in May, putting his SANFL campaign on hold, but it soon became more serious than a standard injury layoff. Ramsay underwent a battery of tests before being diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma — a 'rare and aggressive' bone cancer commonly affecting children and people in their 20s, in particular boys and men. 'Sam is currently undergoing extensive radiation treatment and may require surgery as part of his fight against this illness,' North Adelaide said. 'Despite the challenges, Sam remains a highly valued and respected member of our playing group. 'His commitment to staying connected has been unwavering, including a recent trip to Port Pirie to support the team in our match against his former club South Adelaide.' Teammates donated a portion of their match payments from that match to help support Ramsay, who has been off work while undergoing treatment. North Adelaide said a fundraiser has been planned for next weekend's home game at Prospect Oval. 'Sam, his family and the entire club remain hopeful for a successful treatment outcome,' the club said. 'We look forward to seeing Sam return to full health and fitness soon.' Ramsay was drafted to the AFL at the end of 2019 but his first season with Carlton was ruined by COVID, with the AFL season paused and the VFL cancelled entirely. The Calder Cannons junior then played eight games for the Blues' VFL side in 2021. Delisted by Carlton at the end of that year, he spent two seasons at South Adelaide before joining North Adelaide ahead of the 2024 campaign.
