Based in San Francisco, he will help expand Meraki's presence in Silicon Valley as it sharpens its focus on artificial intelligence (AI) and work closely with entrepreneurs at the incubator to shape their tech and product strategies, Ranjan told ET in an interaction.
'Meraki's focus is to be a moonshot factory for amazing projects, and in today's day, AI is a key component of that,' he said. 'A big part of my role will be to guide the AI vision for Meraki… What kind of companies we should start, what are the problems that we will be great at solving?... Not just applying AI for the sake of it.'
Ranjan said his presence in Silicon Valley—while Bansal is based out of Bengaluru—gives Meraki an opportunity to 'connect with global networks and talent.'
'With his deep product mindset and engineering leadership, he (Ranjan) will play a key role in building new companies, leading our AI vision, and helping Meraki establish a strong presence in Silicon Valley," Bansal said.

As a partner, Ranjan will participate in ongoing investments for Meraki Labs' portfolio companies.
He will also join the board of
Nurix AI
, Bansal's own AI startup incubated at Meraki Labs.
Nurix, which raised $27.5 million
in seed funding from
Accel
and General Catalyst in September last year, builds custom AI agents for enterprise services like sales and customer support in initial use cases.
Ranjan said he would help Nurix design a technical architecture as well as make key leadership hires.
'Nurix itself is going after a very clear problem – and it is looking to solve for these tasks which are very tedious for humans, error-prone, and subject to churn. The whole opportunity for Nurix is to get deep into business operations and see how AI can be applied,' he said.
However, Meraki Labs' focus on AI may extend beyond enterprise use-cases. 'For Meraki, it wouldn't be surprising if the next thing we do is focused on consumers,' Ranjan said.
Prior to joining Meraki Labs, Ranjan was engaged with Google as its general manager and vice president of engineering, where he led teams shaping AI-driven products including Google Assistant and parts of the Gemini app.
Bansal, cofounder of leading fashion portal Myntra, has also backed companies such as Groww, Skyroot Aerospace and former
Zomato
executive Mohit Gupta's fashion startup Lyskraft through Meraki Labs. He used his personal capital to make these investments.

RBI cuts repo rate by 50 bps to 5.50 pc

Mumbai, June 6 (UNI) The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Friday in its second bi-monthly monetary policy of FY26. cut the repo rate by 50 basis points (bps) to 5.50 pc from 6.00 pc earlier. This is the central bank's third consecutive repo rate cut. RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra-led Monetary Policy led committee decided to cut the Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR) by 100 basis points (bps) to 3% from 4% earlier releasing Rs 2.5 lakh crore of lendable resources to the banking system. The MPC also decided to change the policy stance to 'Neutral' from 'Accommodative' in a bid to support economic growth. This RBI's rate cut decision is expected to stimulate borrowing and investment, leading to a higher growth rate. The policy panel retained growth estimate at 6.5 per cent but projected a lower inflation of 3.7 per cent in the current fiscal. Malhotra asserted that the global backdrop remains fragile, and trade projections have been revised downwards, but the Indian economy is progressing well despite the global uncertainties. "India's strength comes from the strong balance sheets of the five major sectors. The Indian economy offers immense opportunities to local and foreign investors. We are already growing at a fast rate. We aspire to grow faster," he said. Inflation has softened significantly, the RBI Governor said, and the near-term and medium-term outlook exudes confidence. Food inflation outlook remains soft, and core inflation is expected to remain benign. The RBI also projected that retail inflation for the current financial year would be 3.7% against its April projection of 4%. Government data shows it fell to 3.16% in April from 3.34% in March, remaining within the RBI's comfort level. The various economic indicators remain strong, with the RBI Governor pointing to a gradual rise in discretionary spending and healthy private consumption. Industrial activity is gaining gradually while the services sector is likely to maintain momentum, he said. Rural demand remains steady while urban demand is improving, he added. The RBI kept the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth projection unchanged at 6.5% in the current financial year. The quarterly projections are: 2.9% (April-June), 3.4% (July-September), 3.9% (October-December), and 4.4% (January-March). The Central bank also reduced the cash reserve ratio (CRR) by 100 bps and said it will release Rs 2.5 lakh crore of bank funds. CRR refers to the percentage of total deposits that banks must hold in liquid form with the RBI. India continues to be an attractive investment destination, assured Mr Malhotra, adding that the forex reserves stand at $691 billion, which is sufficient to fund more than 11 months of goods imports. Masula Beach Fest: Anti-drone system used in ‘Op Sindoor' captivates visitors

Vijayawada: Visitors at the 2025 Masula Beach Festival were captivated by the anti-drone system on display, the Drone Detection, Deterioration, and Destroyer (D4) system, which played a crucial role in both soft and hard kills of enemy drones during 'Operation Sindoor,' launched by India in response to the terrorist attacks in Pahalgam. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The exhibit evoked a strong sense of pride and patriotism among attendees, especially after learning that the indigenous D4 system used in the operation was manufactured at the Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) facility in Machilipatnam for the Indian Army. The BEL manufacturing unit in Machilipatnam, which specializes in Electro Optics (Night Vision Devices), produced some of the D4 Anti-Drone Systems and supplied them to the Army. The anti-drone system is among the many attractions on displayed at the beach festival. Krishna district collector DK Balaji told TOI that the main objective behind showcasing the anti-drone system is to raise awareness among local residents that these systems are manufactured locally at the BEL facility in Machilipatnam and have contributed significantly to combating enemy drones during 'Operation Sindoor'. "The anti-drone system, apable of executing both soft and hard kills, can carry out soft kills against enemy drones within a five-kilometre radius by jamming or neutralising them. Hard kills can be executed against enemy drones within a one-kilometre radius using a high-powered laser beam that incinerates the drones," explained a BEL, Machilipatnam representative. The BEL representative said that the D4 anti-drone system is equipped with electro-optic systems aided by radar to carry out commands issued by a commander or operator from within the Integrated Command Control System housed inside the unit. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The Integrated Command Control System can accommodate two commanders, who monitor the drones on their screens and make decisions to execute soft or hard kills by distinguishing between friendly and hostile drones, he added. The components used in manufacturing the D4 Anti-Drone Systems were sourced from BEL's units in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Pune. Anti-Drone Systems produced at the BEL facility in Machilipatnam have been delivered to the Indian Army.
