'Memorable night' but home form 'concerning' - the fans' verdict
We asked for your views on Rangers' dramatic shootout win over Fenerbahce and facing Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League quarter-finals.Here's what some of you said:Peter: The "Ibrox woes" will remain until we have a striker who can consistently deliver. There lies the fundamental issue. Yes the team showed character which is to be commended, however to put the ball (in open play), in the net five times away and zero at home says it all.Alan: It was a brave performance and excellent overall win. However, the second leg exposed the continued poor form at home which is concerning. We can hopefully continue in this competition and reach another final while building for next season.Thomas: Not a vintage Rangers but they got the job done. It keeps the season going for both the players and the supporters. Need to get back on track domestically, losing four home games on the spin is frankly embarrassing, but bring on Bilbao in the quarters!Gerry: A memorable night for all the Rangers fans. To make the Europa League quarters is commendable. Let's not get carried away. Four home defeats in a row. Europe is an Elastoplast covering the cracks. Barry Ferguson cannot be made permanent manager.Ronnie: Fantastic to reach the quarter-finals, however we did lose the match and that's four on the spin at Ibrox. We did show resilience especially in extra time. But Hamza Igamane once again was very poor. His selfishness denied us good chances to score. Delighted for Barry. I'm pinching myself, we are only two rounds away from the final.Dougie: To get to the quarter-finals is some achievement and great for Scottish football, when we got Fenerbahce I didn't think we would get through. Bilbao will be harder but you never know with this team and Thursday nights. Proud.

Former Hibs boss set for Celtic role as he prepares for return to football

A former Hibs, Aston Villa and Scotland national team figure is set to return to the SPFL at Premiership champions Celtic. Shaun Maloney has stepped into coaching and management after a career that started at Celtic, having two spells at the Hoops and featuring for Scotland on top of Aston Villa, Wigan Athletic, Chicago Fire and Hull City stints. He was in the Belgian national team structure before a disappointing spell at Hibs lasting mere months before being relieved of head coach duties. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Maloney has been hunting a new gig since leaving post as head coach at Wigan. It's now been claimed by the Scottish Sun that Maloney 'is in line to succeed Darren O'Dea as the club's professional player pathway manager.' The former Hibs boss came through the Celtic ranks and started his coaching career with the club's U20s during Brendan Rodgers' first crack at the whip, and now could return to Scottish football. Shaun Maloney set for Celtic return He said to World Football Index of Celtic in 2022: ''I wanted to return to Celtic at the first available opportunity because all I ever wanted to do as a young boy was play for Celtic. I grew up as a Celtic fan and, as I said earlier, I never wanted to leave the club when I did in my first spell. 'I loved the pressure that comes with being a Celtic player. I love the history and heritage that the club has and I missed that when I was away. Playing for your team is like no other feeling in football. I missed that and wanted it back. Overall, my second spell was one of transition. I also really struggled with injury, which did not help matters. 'I was injury free when I returned for the first six months then I did not have regular spells where I was able to play more than fifteen games without another injury. Unfortunately, the injuries I suffered were serious and I was not able to become a big part of the team which was difficult because that is not how I wanted things to go especially at the club that I love. We also had great moments where we took the league to the last day in 2009 and won the League Cup in that season. We should have won that league. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Why former Hibs boss didn't regret Celtic move 'Then, Gordon leaves and Tony Mowbray comes in. I loved Tony and for me; he was the right manager at the right club but at the wrong time. It was a period of real transition and, unfortunately, Tony loses his job less than a season after taking over, then Neil Lennon comes in as interim manager then as permanent manager. 'Neil had some great moments as Celtic manager and I have so much time for Neil. However, I knew that it was the end of the cycle for many of our players when Neil came in and you have to accept that and move on. 'Although my second spell was tough at the time, I do not regret coming back to Celtic because I was at the place where I most wanted to play football.'

Man United 'set to hold talks with European giants' TODAY over Jadon Sancho deal - as Red Devils try to move on outcast this summer
Manchester United are reportedly set to discuss Jadon Sancho 's future with a major European club. The Red Devils are looking to offload Sancho after Chelsea paid a £5million fee at the end of his loan to escape their £25m obligation to sign him. Sancho has not played for United in the Premier League since August 2023 after an explosive falling-out with then-manager Erik Ten Hag. The Sun reported on Tuesday how Jose Mourinho is willing to offer the 25-year-old a lifeline at Fenerbahce. But it now appears that an even bigger fish has entered the pond, with Juventus set to hold a video call with United over Sancho on Wednesday, as per Gianluca Di Marzio. Sancho's £250,000-per-week pay packet could be a stumbling block and United had to pay around £100,000 of that when he joined Borussia Dortmund on loan in 2023-24. The former England star had hoped to reboot his career in London after falling out of favour at United due to his clash with Ten Hag. Ten Hag had criticised Sancho's performances in training after he was left out of a squad to face Arsenal in 2023, with the player branding the words 'completely untrue' in a social media post that was later deleted. But Sancho struggled for consistency over the 2024-25 season, though did score in the Conference League final against Real Betis, which Chelsea won 4-1. That said, he did become a popular player within the Chelsea changing room and did himself more favours than if he had stayed on the sidelines at Old Trafford. Sancho had flashes of brilliance for Enzo Maresca's side - fans even sang his name as he came off the bench to set up the winner against Bournemouth in September. For the 23-time England international, this was a move to the club he had supported as a child and a chance to rebuild his reputation after a middling spell at United. United signed Sancho for £73m in 2021 after being impressed by his scintillating form at Borussia Dortmund, but he never reached the heights he had in Germany. Sancho proved has still has quality in his locker at Chelsea, as seen in his daring run and stunning finish from outside the box against Tottenham in December. Podcast All episodes But he was ultimately unable to bring end product on a consistent basis, scoring five and assisting 10 in 42 games across all competitions. Sancho's contract with United runs until 2026 and includes the option of a further year. Ruben Amorim's system does not accommodate wingers and therefore it is likely to see him getting squeezed out.

Rangers ‘keen on Liverpool star as they plan transfer swoop 12 months after Celtic targeted him'
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) RANGERS will be looking to ramp up their transfer business as the Champions League qualifiers edge closer and closer. And the Gers are reportedly monitoring the situation of a very familiar face indeed. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 3 Owen Beck in action for Liverpool Credit: AP 3 Beck enjoyed a stellar spell in Scotland with Dundee Credit: Kenny Ramsay 3 He was named to the PFA Scotland Premiership Team of the Year in 2024 Credit: Willie Vass Rangers' new American supremos Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe were in Glasgow in Monday as shareholders voted through their investment plans at an EGM. It means the planned £20million cash injection from the US owners has now been rubber-stamped and transfer business can now get underway. Lyall Cameron is the only new addition so far, with the midfielder having signed a pre-contract agreement back in January to join from Dundee. A deal for Max Aarons looks to be extremely close with the Bournemouth right-back having been spotted in Glasgow. Now, the Gers have been credited with an interest in a player on the other side of the defence. According to The Times, the Light Blues are 'keen' on signing Owen Beck from Liverpool. Rangers' interest comes just a year after he was heavily linked with a move to Celtic. Beck, 22, is a familiar face to Scottish football fans after a successful time of things at Dundee. A Liverpool academy product, Beck spent the first half of the 2023/24 campaign on loan at Dens Park and received much acclaim for his performances. Dee fans were gutted when the Reds recalled back at the start of the January transfer window with Jurgen Klopp dealing with an injury crisis at left-back. New Rangers chiefs Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe's first interview Beck would subsequently make his English Premier League debut as a substitute against Bournemouth later that month. Celtic had also been linked with a swoop for Beck in that transfer window, but his Liverpool appearance put an end to the prospect of a move to Parkhead. That's because Fifa rules prevent a player from turning out for three different clubs in a single season. A potential new club's loss was Dundee's gain. Beck rejoined the Dark Blues at the end of the January window and saw out the campaign in the Scottish Premiership. He scored twice in 25 league appearances with his form recognised at the end of the season when he was named to the PFA Scotland Premiership Team of the Year. The defender spent last season on loan at Blackburn Rovers. Beck has now emerged as a target for Rangers but the Light Blues aren't the only club keen. Championship newcomers Wrexham are interested too in signing Beck, who is a Wales under-21 international. A potential Ibrox arrival for Beck would add fresh doubts regarding the future of Ridvan Yilmaz. The Turkish left-back has been consistently linked with a move back to his homeland. Yilmaz and Jefte are the two current left-backs in the Gers squad. Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page
