My songwriting is painfully honest, says Megan Moroney

Perth Now28-05-2025

Megan Moroney believes her songwriting is "painfully honest".
The 27-year-old singer has enjoyed a meteoric rise since releasing her debut album, 'Lucky', in 2023, and Megan believes that her popularity stems from the honesty of her songwriting.
Speaking to People, she explained: "There's definitely strength in being painfully honest, even if it's hard to talk about whatever it is. And I feel like I've got a fan base of younger girls that really look up to me. So if I can be the one that tells them it's going to be okay, or I once felt this way and now I don't - I think it's brave, and I don't feel weaker for it."
Megan's music is a reflection of her "life experiences".
The singer is currently in the midst of penning her new album, and she insists that her songwriting "strategy" hasn't changed in recent years.
She said: "I'm always writing. I mean, I would say that my next album is probably like 80 percent written.
"I just try to live my life and write about it. So that's kind of how this next album is shaping up, too. Just like the last ones — I was writing about my life experiences. So the strategy behind it hasn't changed. It's still the same."
Despite this, Megan revealed that her new record will be more "light and carefree and happy".
She shared: "I would say I've still got the emo cowgirl staples on there because it wouldn't be a Megan Moroney album without some heart-wrenching thing, but I do think it's lighter and it's really fun.
"I've got so many songs on my phone right now that I'm just like ... I know my fans are just going to freak out."
Meanwhile, Megan previously admitted to feeling inspired by Kacey Musgraves.
The 'Tennessee Orange' hitmaker admitted to being wowed by Kacey's songwriting talents.
Speaking to NME about her musical inspirations, Megan explained: "Anything with Kacey next to it freaks me out, because she's the reason I wanted to write songs. She's such a smart writer and I fell in love with it."

White Lotus star bombarded with cash from fans

Patrick Schwarzenegger was bombarded with money from fans while they watched him on 'White Lotus'. The 31-year-old actor made the revelation during an interview with People, where he sat down with his former co-star on the show, Aimee Lou Wood. They were promoting their new partnership with Venmo, ahead of the launch of the brand's debit card and expanded checkout features. He said: "I don't know if this ever happened to you, Aimee – I sent it in our group text from White Lotus – but I have people that sent me money on Venmo during episodes of 'White Lotus'. "It was really strange." In the show, Schwarzenegger plays the eldest son in an extremely rich family about to face ruin, over fraud allegations. He added: "I sent it all back, don't worry. But I did. I got a lot of people that sent me money." Wood, 31, said her own memories of filming involved a rather expensive coconut habit while on location in Thailand. "It was chronic," she said, adding: "I could not stop with the coconuts. I just absolutely loved them! I was so hydrated. I think I was overly hydrated, actually." The pair spent seven months filming the hit HBO series last summer, and said their new work with Venmo came at the perfect time – days after they had been discussing the possibility of collaborating again. "The whole experience was just really fun and put us in a fun situation to get to dance with each other", Schwarzenegger said. Wood agreed, and reflected on the intense bond formed during the extended production, admitting to feeling "separation anxiety" after filming wrapped. She said: "Seven months all of us together, in the same place, and then I went back to England and it was so lonely." The two stars have remained close, spending significant time together in recent weeks, working on the same shoots. 'I'm not surprised': Tom Hanks breaks silence on daughter E.A. Hank's 'abusive' childhood claims made in her bombshell memoir

Tom Hanks has broken his silence on his daughter E.A. Hanks' claims she endured an 'abusive' childhood. The two-time Oscar winner, 68, praised E.A., 43, for the deeply personal memories of her difficult childhood she shared in her 2025 autobiography, The 10: A Memoir of Family And The Open Road. In it, she detailed the "violence and deprivation" she suffered at the hands of her late mother, Samantha Lewes. "It's a pride because, I think, she shares it with me, she's been very open about what the process is," Hanks told Access Hollywood of his feelings about the book at "The Phoenician Scheme" premiere last week. "I'm not surprised that my daughter had the wherewithal, as well as the curiosity, as well as, I'm going to say, perhaps, the 'shoot herself in the foot' kind of wherewithal in order to examine this thing that I think she was incredibly honest about." 'We all come from checked or cracked lives, all of us, despite the fact that part of it would seem as though she worked for some international well-known firm with a copyrighted last name,' the 'Forrest Gump' actor, 68, continued. 'She knows that, and she leans into absolutely everything of it, and I think anyone who does that is a bold journalistic literary mind, and I'm thrilled I can say the same thing about my daughter.' Hanks also explained that as a father, he realized who his daughter was when she was 6 weeks old, as he examined her 'personality,' 'temperament,' and the way she viewed the world through her 'body language.' The 'Cast Away' star shares E.A. and son Colin Hanks, 47, with Lewes, to whom he was married from 1978 to 1987. Lewes, born Susan Dillingham, passed away in 2002 from lung cancer. She was 49. In her tell-all book, E.A. recalled moving to Sacramento with her mum after her famous parents got a divorce. The author claimed that Lewes struggled with mental health issues and was often abusive toward her. 'She pushed me, shook me, pulled at my hair and locked me in a closet once or twice … she told me there were men hiding in her closet who were waiting for us to go to sleep to come out and do horrible things,' E.A., whose full name is Elizabeth Ann, wrote. She detailed her lifestyle at Lewes' home, explaining she was never told to brush her teeth, and there was either loads of food or nothing at all. She also alleged that Lewes would discuss her 'miscarried babies' and suggested E.A. would 'join them in eternal limbo.' When E.A. was in seventh grade, she moved to Los Angeles with her famous father after her mom's 'emotional violence became physical violence.' At the time, Tom had remarried his current wife, Rita Wilson, whom he wed in 1988. 'Rita's not really a stepmother, she's my other mother,' she told People in April. 'When I say my parents, I really mean my dad and Rita, because they've been together since before I can really remember.' Tom and Wilson, 68, share sons Chet, 34, and Truman, 29.

Olivia Munn feels as if she has reached ‘the other side' in life after health fight

Olivia Munn has reached 'the other side' in her life after a series of health traumas. The 'Your Friends and Neighbours' actress, 44, endured a string of brutal surgeries after a cancer diagnosis upended her life, and she has now spoken about how she feels as if she has been given a second chance at enjoying motherhood and her career. She told People: 'I'm so grateful to be on the other side. Everything feels easy in a way. 'I feel so at peace. If I can stay happy and healthy, then I just want to sail into the rest of my life.' The actress has three-year-old son Malcolm with comedian and actor John Mulaney, 42, and says handling him puts her into 'survival' mode at times when he unleashes tantrums. Olivia was diagnosed in April 2023 with luminal B breast cancer – a fast-growing, hormone-driven form of the disease – just months after recovering from postpartum anxiety following Malcolm's birth. She said about the experience: 'It was a whole other perspective, because I had been struggling with life in postpartum, and now I was so desperate to stay alive. 'From the moment I received my diagnosis, it just became a march forward.' She underwent a series of major medical interventions, including a double mastectomy, hysterectomy and ovary removal – and began IVF treatment on a specialised protocol for cancer patients. She and John were able to retrieve and fertilise seven eggs. Olivia added: 'I said, 'I really don't think I'll be okay unless we get two girl embryos. I know this puts me at risk, but I just need you to support me'. 'He said, 'Whatever you need'.' That same day, they learned they had two healthy female embryos. In September 2024, the couple had their daughter Méi via surrogate. Olivia said: 'We were so lucky to find someone so kind who we bonded with so much.' She and John couple married in July that year and said she felt as if she recently needed to get back to acting to 'energise' herself. Olivia is now filming season two of 'Your Friends and Neighbours' in New York, commuting regularly back to California, where John is raising the children and taping his Netflix variety show 'Everybody's Live'. She added: 'It's a dance right now with our schedules. 'We make it work simply because we have the mindset that it's a blessing.'
