This is not a pattern of offending confined to any particular ethnic cultural or religious group. I hope that the forthcoming inquiry will help us find ways to keep young girls safe from the groups of predatory older men, whatever their origin. But it is a natural human tendency to want to think that such horrendous crimes are only carried out by people who are not like us.
Whilst gangs may dominate the news headlines, child protection experts affirm that the vast majority of child sexual exploitation is committed by the victim's close family members or family friends.
In fact, Pakistani men are up to five times as likely to be responsible for child sex grooming offences than the general population, according to figures from the Hydrant Programme, which investigates child sex abuse. Around one in 73 Muslim men over 16 have been prosecuted for 'group-localised child sexual exploitation' in Rotherham, research by academics from the universities of Reading and Chichester has revealed.
Indeed, after Reverend Walker's speech, presenter Nick Robinson noted the new national inquiry announced by Sir Keir Starmer was into grooming gangs constituted 'of men of largely Pakistani heritage'. Listen to the full clip here:

Another relative said: 'Didn't think I'd be writing this so soon, I love you forever my girl. I'll forever miss you.' Another said: 'Can't wait to come home and squeeze you all. Girl, 13, dies as boy arrested on suspicion of murder and rape
The 13-year-old's death is currently being treated as unexplained. A 13-year-old girl has tragically died after being found unresponsive in a flat with a boy arrested on suspicion of rape and murder. The teenager, named locally as Casey, is believed to have been living in Liverpool under the care system, and had travelled to Huddersfield on Monday, August 11. She was found unresponsive later that day, when emergency services were called to an apartment on Sheepridge Road, Sheepridge, in Huddersfield, the ECHO reports. She was taken to hospital, where she died in the early hours of Tuesday, August 12. The cause of her death remains undetermined, with a post mortem examination calling it "unexplained pending further investigation". A 16-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder and rape in relation to Casey's death. He has also been arrested for an alleged rape of a 16-year-old girl in what police have referred to as a "separate incident" elsewhere in Kirklees. He has since been released on conditional bail, West Yorkshire Police said. The news of the incident has shocked the local community. Local MP Harpreet Uppal said: "This is a tragic case and my thoughts remain with the 13 year old teenager and her family and friends. I have been in contact with the police and I am being updated on the investigation. "Detectives are working tirelessly to fully understand the circumstances surrounding the girl's death which is being treated as unexplained after a post mortem could not establish how she died. Extra police deployed in Reading over violence fears
Police have announced measures to prevent potential "serious violence" in a county Valley Police said extra officers and temporary powers had been authorised in part of Reading, Berkshire, from 19:00 BST. The Section 60 and 34 powers enable random stop and searches and the dispersal of groups causing disorder or a nuisance, police force said it followed concerns of possible disorder and individuals carrying weapons associated with a "planned event" in the area, with those involved "known to each other". Supt Adrian Hall said: "These are emergency powers and the threshold to implement them is very high. "You will see more police officers in the area while the order is in place and we expect to carry out more stop and searches than usual."The orders, which last for 12 hours and will be reviewed on Sunday, will be put in place within Queens Road, Mill Lane, Elgar Road, Christchurch Road and Redlands Road.
