Police captain kills girlfriend, her brother, then himself in double murder and suicide
A police captain killed his girlfriend and brother before turning the gun on himself in a double murder and suicide in Protea. Three others were injured in the shooting on Saturday night.

Police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said a police captain's girlfriend, who was also a SA Police Service officer, was shot at their home.

The suspended Patriotic Alliance (PA) deputy president resigned as a councillor in the city of Johannesburg with immediate effect on Saturday.

Number 3 Saxonwold Drive was the most rundown property of the three, and it was the only one to sell. Numbers 5 and 7 did not sell during the auction by Park Village Auctioneers.

Cold weather grips Gauteng with partly cloudy skies
Gauteng experienced a biting cold weather start on Monday; with freezing morning temperatures and partly cloudy skies expected throughout the day. Johannesburg and Pretoria began the day at a chilling 6°C, while maximum temperatures across the province will struggle to rise above the upper teens. 'Temperatures will remain in the upper teens throughout the day,' a forecaster said, cautioning that residents should prepare for continued chill. Fire risk in Gauteng's nearby regions remains high While Gauteng faces cold weather and cloudy conditions, nearby areas like the Northern Cape face a different threat. The South African Weather Service issued a high fire danger warning for the northwestern parts of the Northern Cape. 'You need to be careful about fires in those parts of the country,' warned the forecaster. Gauteng, however, remains dry, mainly with no immediate threat of rain. The partly cloudy skies will offer brief moments of sun but will fail to bring significant warmth. Polokwane and other nearby areas recorded similar cold trends, with only minimal relief expected in the coming days. Kenny Kunene still deputy president of Patriotic Alliance
Kunene resigned as a councillor in the City of Johannesburg over the weekend. The Patriotic Alliance (PA) says Kenny Kunene is still the deputy president of the party despite being suspended. Kunene resigned as a councillor in the City of Johannesburg, effective immediately, on Saturday. His resignation comes after the PA deputy leader was seen at the home of Katiso 'KT' Molefe, who has been arrested in connection with the murder of popular South African DJ Oupa John Sefoka, known as DJ Sumbody. PA position His presence at the scene raised eyebrows, prompting PA leader Gayton McKenzie to suspend him pending an investigation. PA spokesperson Steve Motale told The Citizen on Monday, Kunene retains his position in the party. 'Kenny Kunene remains Deputy President of the PA,' said Motale. He has resigned as a counsellor, meaning he's no longer part of the council, and the council, therefore, does not have jurisdiction over him in terms of our own code of conduct as councillors. Temperatures in Gauteng are expected to drop close to the freezing mark as the cold weather grips most parts of the country. Freezing weather Gauteng Weather has forecast the mercury for Johannesburg on Friday to drop to 0°C, reaching a high of 14°C. Pretoria is forecast to have a temperature of 2°C, with a high of 16°C. The cold weather is possibly the last breath of winter as the country moves to warmer temperatures. Emergencies The drop in temperatures means that residents throughout the City of Johannesburg will be forced to use all sorts of heating devices to try to warm themselves. This can make them vulnerable to fire incidents at home if heating devices are used unsafely or unattended. Residents have been urged to use all heating devices safely, including heaters, braziers, paraffin stoves and candles, and not to leave them unattended while in use to prevent fire incidents at home during the extremely cold weather. Load shedding While the cold weather sweeps across Johannesburg and the country, South Africans are relieved that there was no load shedding during winter. In May, Eskom said it would have more than 2.5GW of power this winter and could avoid load shedding altogether if unplanned breakdowns remain below 13GW.
