East Baton Rouge deputies arrest 3 men after drug trafficking investigation

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — The East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office arrested three men accused of operating a drug trafficking group.
According to the sheriff's office, agents have been conducting surveillance on a group identified as 'Play For Keeps' and have found multiple residences that agents believe to have been used for drug trafficking.
Deputies identified Joshua Morris, 39, and Jalen Chavis, 29, as the group leaders. Agents purchased crack cocaine from Morris on numerous occasions.
On Tuesday, agents executed search warrants for six homes in Baton Rouge and seized the following:
10.5 grams of crack cocaine.
34 dosage units of pressed fentanyl.
10.2 ounces of marijuana.
10.5 ounces of promethazine.
1 dosage unit of 30mg of amphetamine.
11 dosage units of Lortab.
13 dosage units of Oxycodone.
multiple digital scales.
2 hand-operated pill presses (one with fentanyl residue).
9 handguns/pistols.
1 shotgun.
$2,020.

Chavis was charged with possession with the intent to distribute Schedule II drugs, possession with the intent to distribute a Schedule I drug, illegal carrying of a firearm with drugs, two counts of illegal carrying of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Morris was charged with two counts of distribution of Schedule II drugs, four counts of possession with the intent to distribute a Schedule II, illegal carrying of a firearm with drugs, illegal carrying of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Joshua Normand, 22, was charged with possession of a Schedule II drug and illegal carrying of a firearm with drugs.
A warrant for 35-year-old Jarrett Edwards' arrest is pending. He faces charges of illegal carrying of a firearm with drugs, operation of a clandestine fentanyl lab and possession of drug paraphernalia.

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A Baker man pleaded guilty to five counts of human trafficking, the East Baton Rouge District Attorney's office confirmed Wednesday. Sentencing for Kevontae Reed, 29, is scheduled for Sept. 25. Troopers arrested Reed on human trafficking and indecent behavior with a juvenile charges after a March 14, 2024, undercover operation with Homeland Security at a Baton Rouge hotel. According to the Louisiana State Police, a human trafficking victim was rescued. LSP identified Reed as a repeat offender with a history of human trafficking offenses.
