Here's The Important Meaning Behind Nicola Coughlan's Latest Red Carpet Look

Buzz Feed30-04-2025

Nicola Coughlan's latest red carpet look is a nod to her activist work.
The Bridgerton and Derry Girls star recently attended the Canneseries Festival — a TV festival in France — where she was given the Konbini Commitment Award. It's an award given "to talent who have distinguished themselves by the artistic quality and societal, innovative and/or revolutionary dimension of their work."
For the occasion, she wore a custom Robert Wun couture dress fittingly called"The Peace Lily Gown."
As the name implies, the flower typically symbolizes"peace, tranquility, and purity."
In her acceptance speech, she said, "In Northern Ireland, after decades of violence, peace was achieved with the vital involvement of the United States. Today, as we witness the relentless destruction of Gaza, I can't help but believe that if those in power step in and all of us with a moral conscience speak up, there could be peace there, too. Those children living in fear deserve a future, and we should not sit by in silence."
Nicola has made sartorial nods to Palestine before, having worn her Artists4Ceasefire pin to most press events in recent months. She recently said of her support of Palestine, 'There is a factor of 'it's better if you say nothing' because our job is to entertain you...We are talking about right or wrong, about children being bombed in their beds. I wouldn't accept that anywhere in the world.'

Jonathan Bailey Told The Story Behind Rapidly Preparing To Film Wicked, And I'm Laughing Over How He Reacted To Headbutting Ariana Grande

In Wicked, Jonathan Bailey's Fiyero dazzled us all with his moves during the standout 'Dancing Through Life' musical number. However, he just reminded us that he wasn't always as smooth as his character on the set of the movie. As we wait for the Wicked: For Good release date to arrive, he recently shared a funny story about the time he was rehearsing with Ariana Grande and things got totally awkward when he missed a step. Jonathan Bailey has been a busy fellow in recent years, and just ahead of landing on set to play Fiyero for Wicked, he was shooting Bridgerton and Fellow Travelers, and he didn't have much time to prep. Here's a funny story the actor told GQ about dancing through life with Ariana Grande: I remember having four hours to learn how to do a dance move. I did it with Ari, headbutted her, and was like, 'Gotta go!' I think she might have even headbutted me, but it was a meeting of minds, literally. Bailey is so quick on his feet in Wicked, one would never know he only had a short amount of time to prepare for the movie's big dance numbers. I'm definitely laughing over his reaction to headbutting global pop star and our Glinda, Ariana Grande, because it sounds like he got super embarrassed and wanted to peace out as soon as it happened. I can't say I blame him for zooming away, and I guess even the Bridgerton star can get embarrassed! Peacock TV: from $7.99 a month/$79.99 a yearWhile we wait for For Good, you can stream Wicked with a Peacock subscription. Costing as little as $7.99 a month, you can also pay more for Peacock Premium and enjoy ad-free streams and the option to download titles to watch offline Deal It's a funny story, but things like this have to be part of the job, especially when you have the schedule Jonathan Bailey did prior to his Independence Day-like experience landing on the set of the Wicked movies. Bailey said he joined the movie after taking part in just three days of rehearsals. And previously, Ariana Grande shared that he was learning the choreography on his days off shooting Bridgerton just before he came onto the sets of Wicked. He would fly in just to have a dance rehearsal and then return to the Bridgerton set before officially settling into Oz for the shoot. Fiyero's dancing in Wicked is definitely one of the many highlights of the first movie, especially when it comes to that rotating library in 'Dancing Through Life,' which proved to be one of the more technically challenging scenes in the first movie. However, it feels like we're going to want to hold that scene close after seeing the Wicked: For Good trailer, because it signals a major tonal shift for all the characters. Take a look below: Rather than Fiyero simply being the charismatic prince that gets the students of Shiz to break some rules and go out dancing, in For Good he's become the Captain of the Wizard's Guard who's still caught in a love triangle between Glinda and Elphaba. Thank goodness Wicked: For Good is among the 2025 movie releases! The movie hits theaters on November 21. In the meantime, I'll just be picturing Jonathan Bailey and Ariana Grande headbutting and the actor promptly running away after it happened.

Jonathan Bailey Recalls Awkward Moment In "Wicked"

Jonathan Bailey has admitted he and his Wicked co-star Ariana Grande had a bit of an awkward moment when they were still getting to know one another. The British actor plays Fieryo in both Wicked and its much-hyped sequel, shooting both films back-to-back in a rather hectic time for his career, during which he was also making the TV shows Bridgerton and Fellow Travellers. As a result, Jonathan told British GQ that his rehearsal time on the movie was rather limited, with the Emmy nominee having just three days to prepare before filming began. 'I remember having four hours to learn how to do a dance move,' he explained. 'I did it with Ari, headbutted her, and was like, 'Gotta go!'' He quipped: 'I think she might have even headbutted me, but it was a meeting of minds, literally.' Fortunately, despite the literal tête-à-tête, he and the "Twilight Zone" singer went on to forge a strong friendship, at one point even attending Wimbledon together during their Wicked downtime. Last year, Jonathan spoke candidly about the toll that shooting multiple projects at the same time took on one particular aspect of his appearance. He claimed that having a perm for Bridgerton and a straight do for Fellow Travellers left his hair 'looking like coral' – and as a result, he had to sport a 'big old toupée' to play Fiyero in Wicked. 'I'm in the choreography so it's flapping about!' he joked to Variety during an Actors On Actors interview with Naomi Watts. Wicked For Good sees Jonathan once again sharing the screen with the likes of Cynthia Erivo, Jeff Goldblum and Michelle Yeoh, in the movie adaptation of the stage musical's second act. The first trailer for the sequel was released on Wednesday night, ahead of its worldwide release on Friday 21 November.

I Didn't Have Jonathan Bailey Comparing Wicked To ‘Independence Day' On My Bingo Card, But I Honestly Think It Sounds Intense

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. If you like Bridgerton alum Jonathan Bailey, the 2025 movie schedule is a boon for the senses. Not only will he be showing up in the summer blockbuster Jurassic World Rebirth, but he'll of course be returning to the role of the dreamy Fiyero - as we saw in Wicked: For Good's first trailer. Filming Jon M. Chu's adaptation of the Broadway legend was always going to be quite the experience; but I never thought the man would compare it to Roland Emmerich's Independence Day - though it makes total sense. Feel free to agree or disagree, courtesy of Mr. Bailey offering these recollections in a GQ profile: Being slightly off the M1 in Munchkinland, with Ari [that's Ariana Grande to you and I] singing a beautiful mezzo soprano, and then seeing cars pulling up on the hard shoulder trying to record it. And then seeing men in the sky, [which] turned out to be microlights and drones. It was like Independence Day. Ok, so it's not the residents of Munchkinland running from an exploding Empire State Building; but the comparison still stands. Imagining Wicked's award-nominated artistry being staged in a field in England, with all the bells and whistles, must have been exhilarating. Though that big about the drones and microlights may be the kicker, as the right time of day could make those look like something not of this Earth. It certainly sounds akin to watching Independence Day in the '90s, and being blown away by something like Bill Pullman's stirring, title-dependent speech. Only Jonathan Bailey was much closer to the action than a Peacock subscription would get you, and he technically got to watch a free Ariana Grande performance. Either way, there's a potential for fun Jeff Goldblum stories to crop up. Peacock TV: from $7.99 a month/$79.99 a yearIf you can't wait until November to rejoicify in the release of Wicked: For Good, a Peacock subscription could have you flying high until then! With access to Wicked, as well as some documentaries and November's upcoming live event, it'd be very hard to bring you down! And all it costs is as little as $7.99 a month, with the option to upgrade to premium ad-free Deal The reaction to the first half of Universal's two-part musical epic certainly made a similar impression to the debut of that 1996 sci-fi disaster epic. With Wicked banking various box office milestones, and even inspiring audiences to sing along (much to the chagrin of some parties), it was a movie truly of the moment. Wicked: For Good isn't due out until November 21st, but don't forget that you can stream Wicked on Peacock. As for Jonathan Bailey, he'll be next seen in Jurassic World Rebirth, which hits theaters on July 2nd - much sooner than what we know about Bridgerton Season 4, which will see him return to Netflix at some point in 2026.
