Uttarakhand's Tripti Rejected 16 Govt Jobs, Cleared UPSC In 1st Attempt To Become IPS
Tripti Bhatt, an IPS officer from Uttarakhand, rejected 16 govt job offers, including ISRO, to follow her dream of serving the nation—cracking UPSC in her first attempt.
In pursuit of her dream to serve the nation, Tripti Bhatt, a determined officer from Uttarakhand, gave up 16 government job offers, including one from ISRO, to become an IPS officer. Today, she serves as SP Intelligence and Security in Dehradun, standing as a symbol of resilience and commitment.
Hailing from Almora, Tripti grew up in a middle-class family with a teaching background. The eldest of four siblings, she studied at Beersheba Senior Secondary School and Kendriya Vidyalaya, before graduating in engineering from Pantnagar University. Early in her career, she worked as an Assistant Manager at NTPC, but her real ambition lay elsewhere.
Tripti's turning point came in Class 9 when she met former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, who handed her a handwritten letter. The moment, she recalls, ignited her lifelong mission to serve India. Despite offers from top institutions like ISRO, she remained focused on the Civil Services.
In 2013, she cracked the UPSC CSE in her first attempt, securing an All India Rank of 165 and choosing IPS. She was allotted her home cadre and began her police career as SP Dehradun. She later served as SP Chamoli and Commander of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) in Tehri Garhwal, where she led critical rescue operations during disasters.
An officer with many talents, Tripti has won gold in marathon races and state-level badminton competitions. She is also trained in Taekwondo and Karate, pursuits that reflect her discipline and strength.
On social media, Tripti often shares glimpses of her work. In 2022, during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's rally in Almora, she posted a photo with the caption: 'Was on uniformed duty at my home district for the first time in all these years of service.. and the feeling was a special one."
Her journey from a small town in Uttarakhand to one of the state's top police posts is not just a story of civil service success; it is an inspiring blueprint for perseverance, courage, and national service.

Red Fort Security Breach: 7 Cops Suspended After Dummy Bomb Goes Undetected In Drill
Last Updated: Seven Delhi Police personnel were suspended for "negligence" during mock drill ahead of the Independence Day celebrations. A major security breach took place at Red Fort in the national capital, where a mock drill conducted by the Delhi Police's Special Cell before the Independence Day event allowed a team to enter the fort with a dummy bomb, officials said on Tuesday. In response to the security lapse, seven police personnel on duty were immediately suspended and are now facing investigation. DCP Raja Banthia has ordered a thorough review and strengthening of security measures. Red Fort is a high-security zone, especially during weeks in the run-up to the Independence Day celebrations, when the Prime Minister hoists the Tricolour and addresses the nation from its ramparts. Any security breach at the Red Fort is considered serious due to the potential threat from terrorists. Meanwhile, five Bangladeshi nationals were caught trying to enter the Red Fort illegally on Monday. 'All of them are illegal immigrants. They tried to forcibly enter the Red Fort premises," the police said. 'The police have recovered some Bangladeshi documents from them. Currently, they are being interrogated," officials said. They were found with fake Aadhaar cards and were sent to a detention center, officials said. Security arrangements at the Red Fort have been further strengthened ahead of August 15. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. 'He's An Institution': Ali Akbar, Paris' Last Newspaper Hawker, To Be Honoured By Macron
Last Updated: Ali Akbar (73) will receive France's National Order of Merit for his dedication to supplying newspapers in Paris. President Macron will honor him in September. Ali Akbar, a 73-year-old newspaper vendor originally from Pakistan's Rawalpindi, is set to receive one of France's most prestigious honours — the National Order of Merit — for his remarkable dedication in supplying newspapers to cafes and restaurants in Paris' fashionable Latin Quarter for several decades. In September, President Emmanuel Macron will make him a knight of the National Order of Merit – an honour typically reserved for those who render distinguished service to the nation in a civilian or military capacity. Having moved to France in 1973, Akbar has spent over 50 years selling dailies. Known for his warm smile, humour, and unwavering commitment, he has become a beloved local figure and the last of Paris's traditional street newspaper vendors. 'I just love the feel of paper," news agency Reuters quoted Akbar, who prefers physical print over digital news, as saying. 'I don't like tablets and all that kind of stuff. But I do like reading. Whatever the type. Real books. But never on screens," he said, adding, 'I have a certain way of selling newspapers. I try to make jokes. So people laugh. I try to be positive and I create an atmosphere… I try and get into people's hearts, not their pockets." In a district now dominated by upscale boutiques and restaurants, Akbar remains a cherished reminder of the Latin Quarter's literary past. Speaking to Reuters, a longtime customer, Marie-Laure Carriere, described Akbar as an 'institution." 'Ali is an institution. I buy Le Monde from him every day. In fact, we do a little more than buy Le Monde for him. We have coffee with him, sometimes we have lunch with him," Carriere, was quoted as saying by Reuters. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
