One of the world's largest asset managers Vanguard on Friday executed two large block deals in Vishal Mega Mart Limited, acquiring a total of over 5 crore shares worth Rs 655 crore. The US-based company bought shares in the Indian retailer through a couple of funds viz. Vanguard Total International Stock Index Fund and Vanguard Emerging Markets Stock Index Fund.In the former case, 2.65 crore shares were bought at a price of Rs 129.74 per share, amounting to a deal size of approximately Rs 344 crore. Simultaneously, 2.39 crore shares were purchased by the latter at the same price of Rs 129.74, translating to a transaction value of about Rs 310.8 crore.Shares of Vishal Mega Mart today ended the day at Rs 129.65, gaining by Rs 3.55 or 2.82% on the BSE.On Tuesday, Vishal Mega Mart promoter entity Samayat Services LLP sold 90 crore equity shares worth Rs 10,220 crore in the company via block deals. Since its listing the returns stand at 15%.Vishal Mega Mart is a diversified retail company in India, primarily operating as a hypermarket chain. Their core business revolves around providing a wide range of products at affordable prices to middle and lower-middle-income groups. Operating performance also improved, with EBITDA climbing 42.6% to Rs 357 crore from Rs 250.5 crore in the year-ago period.EBITDA margin expanded to 14% in the reporting quarter, compared with 12.1% a year earlier. EBITDA refers to earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation.

Goa govt loses Rs 107cr as TCP gives free FAR to 321 commercial units
Panaji: Goa has lost Rs 107 crore as the town and country planning (TCP) department gave concessions to commercial establishments by not levying fees for additional floor area ratio (FAR), a Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report has said. But the loss shoots up to over Rs 2,000 crore if it is calculated on the rate recommended by the finance department, the audit report said. The TCP department granted 10.7 lakh sqm additional FAR to 321 commercial establishments on their request without levying any fees, while the finance department had directed the TCP to charge Rs 1,000 per sqm on the additional FAR and height granted to the commercial establishments. 'Due to non-levy of any fees while granting additional FAR to the commercial establishments, there was a loss of Rs 107 crore to the state exchequer,' the report said. In the absence of any provision for levy of fees for the grant of additional FAR and height, the TCP department granted additional FAR to 321 commercial establishments free of cost. A senior audit officer said the TCP department, through a notification on Aug 9, 2023, categorised the FAR. Thereafter, the department amended and inserted a new clause (2) under 6.1.1 of the regulations, whereby it was stated that 'govt, on recommendation of the TCP board, shall grant additional height and FAR to the proposals on a case-to-case basis in consideration of the locational aspect, nature of development, use proposed, information available, and any such other criteria, if required. Such relaxation shall, however, not be relaxed for more than 20% permitted in the prevailing regulations.' But within 12 days, through another notification on Aug 21, 2023, the TCP department deleted the earlier clause: '…such relaxation shall, however, not be relaxed for more than 20% permitted in the prevailing regulations,' thereby not capping the ceiling limit. In 2015, the TCP department through a notification on July 2 had said four-star and five-star hotels may be granted 'an additional FAR of 20% on the recommendation of the committee and on the approval of govt', but on payment of Rs 20,000 per sqm. As the 321 commercial establishments were set up for profit motive, the TCP department should have levied the fees in line with those charged for four- and five-star hotels, the report said. The report also said the rate prescribed by the finance department needs to be reviewed as it was minimal and there was no slab for various categories (individuals, commercial establishments) for the grant of additional FAR and height. The TCP department through the Goa Land Development and Building Construction Regulation, 2010, regulates building construction in Goa. The regulation specifies technical parameters like FAR, height, amenities, water supply, sewerage, and fire safety. The technical parameters differ from zone to zone, as well as the size of the building and plot.

In a 1st, European company to source aircraft parts from Goa firm
Panaji: In the first collaboration between a European aerospace supplier and a Goan company for commercial planes, Austrian aerospace firm FACC AG has signed a seven-year agreement with Goa-based Kineco Aerospace & Defence to source structural parts for passenger aircraft. The agreement was announced on the second day of the 2025 Paris Air Show, on Tuesday. The multi-million deal sets in motion a 10-month phase of technical and operational coordination between FACC and Kineco. If executed, this partnership will integrate Kineco into FACC's global supplier network. FACC's annual revenues hit 884.5 million in 2024, and it counts Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, and Embraer among its customers. 'Kineco Group has been making strategic, forward-looking investments in state-of-the-art capabilities, global-scale capacity, and world-class manufacturing and governance practices,' said the founder and chairman of the Kineco Group, Shekhar Sardessai. 'We are aligning with the evolving needs of Tier-1 companies and global commercial aircraft original equipment manufacturers.' Cognizant to invest $183 million for new India campus, add 8,000 jobs
Software services firm Cognizant Technology Solutions will invest ₹15.82 billion ($182.76 million) to build a new campus in the southern Indian city of Vishakapatanam that will create about 8,000 jobs, the State Government announced on Friday (June 20, 2025). Commercial operations will begin in March 2029, an Andhra Pradesh Government press release said. Cognizant did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The announcement comes just months after India's top IT firm, Tata Consultancy Services, unveiled plans for ₹13.70 billion campus in the same city, and is expected generate 12,000 jobs. The move aligns with Cognizant's strategy to optimise real estate costs. In May 2023, Chief Executive Ravi Kumar S. said the company would relinquish 11 million square feet of office space globally, mainly in India's largest cities, while investing in tier-2 Indian cities. Globally, IT companies, including those in India's $283 billion sector, are taking cost-cutting measures such as monetising real estate assets and delaying wage increases amid demand uncertainty. Last month, the Teaneck, New Jersey-based company raised its annual revenue forecast and beat first-quarter results driven by increased demand for AI-powered IT services.
