JOHOR BARU, June 19 — The Johor government is in talks with ride-hailing company Grab to update the Cross-Border Travel Agreement, aiming to further streamline travel between Johor and Singapore.
Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, in a statement today, said the discussions were among the key matters raised during a recent meeting with Grab's senior management.
He said the talks form part of broader efforts to enhance Johor's tourism and transportation sectors ahead of Visit Johor Year 2026 (TMJ 2026).
'The discussions also explored potential cross-border collaborations involving the Malaysian and Singaporean transport ministries, alongside the role of Grab and other public transport providers in facilitating smoother travel between the two countries,' he said.
Onn Hafiz also revealed plans to introduce an integrated physical and digital platform to showcase must-visit attractions in Johor.
This initiative, he said, holds strong potential to help tourists access information more easily online and offline, while further boosting the state's tourism sector.
'It will also create new income opportunities for the people, stimulate the local economy and position Johor as a modern, open and globally welcoming state. Insya-Allah,' he said. — Bernama

74 Bangladeshi workers win RM1.5mil in claims over unpaid wages

(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : A group of Bangladeshi workers has won more than RM1.5 million in claims from their former employer due to unpaid wages and other breaches of their employment contracts. The Kuala Lumpur labour office had ordered Meranti Binamas Sdn Bhd to pay RM1.54 million to the 74 workers, who had lodged complaints through migrant rights group Tenaganita. In a statement, Tenaganita official Abdul Aziz Ismail said this was a 'significant payout' and a major win for migrant rights which showed that employers could be held accountable for breaching the rights of foreign workers. 'It has been a long road but we finally have a decision and an order from the labour office. By ordering Meranti Binamas to pay the amounts due, the labour department has sent a clear message that employers cannot exploit workers with impunity. 'This is a significant achievement for the workers and for Tenaganita. It sets yet another precedent that even large, seemingly untouchable companies can be held accountable when workers stand united and demand justice,' he said. Aziz urged the government to ensure the RM1.5 million is paid out in full quickly. It was reported that the workers paid up to RM25,000 each to secure jobs but were left stranded in Malaysia with no work or wages and enduring poor living conditions after arriving here. The workers had stayed in a crowded hostel in Pudu, KL, and went months without pay, with some said to have had suicidal thoughts. The labour department's order is separate from a case now before the Shah Alam High Court. In that suit, 33 workers are seeking RM1.71 million in damages, including the RM25,000 they each paid in fees to get to Malaysia and 18 months of wages they say they never received. They also want the court to declare them victims of job fraud and to bar the immigration department from detaining or deporting them until the case is disposed of. The suit names Meranti Binamas, the human resources ministry secretary-general, the immigration director-general, and the government as defendants. It was filed in March and is ongoing.

He emphasized that the basis of social progress and economic prosperity is founded upon the effective use of energy. The tides of energy and technological revolution present not only challenges, but valuable opportunities. Asia's diverse resources offer unique advantages for development. Transforming precious resources into high-value products that serve the advancement of society and human welfare not only presents a more sustainable path for development, but is also a pivotal direction for transforming one of humanity's scarcest resources: is a leading private enterprise in China, specialising in the production of downstream chemicals in the petroleum industry. Founded in 1986 following China's Reform and Opening-up, the company will celebrate 40 years of commitment to the production and development of functional chemicals and new materials. Using fossil fuels such as petroleum, silicon, and phosphorus, it produces hundreds of product lines, with nearly 20,000 products. Many are used in relatively smaller volumes, ranging from just tens to hundreds of tons every year, but they are an indispensable part of many supply chains. Transfar strives relentlessly for excellence, designing each product to have functional value and unique plays a crucial role across a wide range of industrial and supply chains. From serving light industries such as textiles, paper, plastics, and building materials, the company has expanded to support emerging sectors including photovoltaics, solar energy, new energy vehicles, high-speed rail and semiconductors. By leveraging technological innovation, Transfar has achieved exponential growth while becoming a key driver for the transition to new Xu affirmed that Chinese companies are unwaveringly dedicated to achieving their dual-carbon goals, honing their core competitive advantage in products, technology, and management through their development journey, with the ultimate goal of contributing to the development of Asia and the world. Transfar prioritizes technological innovation, continuously tackling new technologies in functional chemicals and new materials to enhance energy and product value, and moving up the supply chain. Recent breakthroughs such as rare earth rubber, electronic chemicals, and organic silicon materials, some of which are fully independent and original innovations, have greatly enhanced the added value of the energy and chemical and low-carbon emissions are a global consensus, a national strategy, and a corporate responsibility. This is especially so in the energy and chemical industries, where a focus on energy structure, low-carbon technology, and industrial innovation, is crucial. Transfar has established integrated solar and storage systems, waste heat power generation, and closed-loop energy systems in creating zero-carbon factories and industrial parks, equipped with full-chain product carbon footprint tracking. Transfar has also pioneered green technologies such as low-temperature bleaching and chlorosilicon recycling, empowering industry-wide carbon emission reduction. At the same time, exploring biomanufacturing transformations has led to significant breakthroughs in new applications such as bio-based additives, biopesticides, and enzyme future is not a zero sum game. Sustainable development requires an open mind and cooperation, including regional strategic coordination and strong alliances between upstream and downstream enterprises.
