Yemen : Mounting Pressure on Washington and Tel Aviv as Airstrikes Fail to Deter Houthis… Hodeidah Emerges as Potential Target for Ground Offensive

Paris – (YOL) Exclusive
The Yemeni battlefield is witnessing rapid developments amid growing pressure on both the United States and Israel, as Houthi drone and missile attacks toward Israeli territory persist. Despite repeated U.S. airstrikes on Houthi positions, the group's military capabilities remain largely intact, and their threat continues to escalate.
While recent precision strikes have targeted Houthi facilities and infrastructure, field indicators suggest the group retains substantial offensive capabilities. This ongoing resilience has placed Western powers in a difficult position, challenging the effectiveness of their current military strategy.
According to overlapping diplomatic and security sources, advanced discussions are underway between Washington, London, and Tel Aviv to support a limited ground operation led by local Yemeni forces, with Western logistical and intelligence assistance. Analysts believe the strategic port city of Hodeidah, located on Yemen's western coast, is being considered as the primary target for this potential campaign, due to its logistical significance and its suspected role in facilitating Houthi aerial and maritime operations.
In this context, a senior U.S. Department of Defense official—speaking on condition of anonymity—stated: 'Airstrikes alone will not be sufficient to dismantle the Houthis' complex infrastructure, especially in heavily fortified coastal areas. A serious debate is currently underway about the need to support localized ground operations executed by trained Yemeni units with direct international backing.'
For his part, regional security expert Dr. Michael Stein noted: 'Hodeidah serves as a logistical stronghold for the Houthis. Gaining control of the city would deal a significant blow to their ability to threaten maritime routes and sustain military supply chains.'
Should this plan be implemented, it would mark a significant shift in the rules of engagement with the Iran-backed group and could trigger broader regional ramifications at a time of heightened tensions across multiple fronts in the Middle East.

UN experts: 'Israel' is committing genocide, planning to wipe out life in Gaza

NEW YORK, June 11 (YPA) – UN experts said that Israeli occupation committed a crime against humanity amounting to 'genocide' by killing civilians who had sought refuge in schools and religious sites in the Gaza Strip as part of a 'systematic campaign to erase Palestinian life'. In its report released on Tuesday, the committee noted that the occupying authorities have destroyed more than 90% of school and university buildings and more than half of the religious and cultural sites in Gaza. It concluded that the occupation committed war crimes, 'including directing attacks against civilians and educational facilities. The UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory and 'Israel' was scheduled to present its report to the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva on June 17. 'We are witnessing mounting evidence that Israel is waging a systematic campaign to erase Palestinian life in Gaza.' Navi Pillay, the former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights who chairs the commission, said in a statement, 'Israel's targeting of the educational, cultural, and religious life of the Palestinian people will harm current and future generations and undermine their right to self-determination.' The occupying authorities withdrew from the Human Rights Council in February, claiming it was biased. When the commission's latest report in March concluded that 'Israel' had committed 'acts of genocide' against Palestinians through the systematic destruction of women's healthcare facilities during the conflict in Gaza, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the findings as biased and anti-Semitic. In response to the 'Al-Aqsa Intifada' Hamas launched on October 7, 2023, the occupying authorities launched a military campaign in the Gaza Strip that, according to health authorities in the Strip, resulted in the deaths of more than 54,000 Palestinians. The report concluded that the damage to the Palestinian education system was not limited to Gaza, pointing to increased Israeli military operations in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, along with harassment of students and attacks by settlers there. 'The Israeli authorities also targeted Israeli and Palestinian education workers and students inside Israel who expressed concern for or solidarity with civilians in Gaza, resulting in harassment, dismissal, or suspension, and in some cases, arrest and detention in a humiliating manner,' the report stated, adding that the Israeli authorities particularly target female teachers and students with the aim of deterring women and girls from activism in public spaces.'

Medinsky: Russia seeks peace, but will respond if Kyiv continues conflict for foreign interests

Moscow – Saba: Russian Presidential Aide Vladimir Medinsky has stated that Russia desires peace, but will be "forced to respond" if Kyiv prolongs the confrontation to serve the interests of third countries. Speaking to the Wall Street Journal, as reported by RIA Novosti, Medinsky asserted, "We want peace, but if Ukraine continues its confrontation to serve the interests of others, we will simply have to respond." He criticized the Western perception of the conflict as a conventional war, arguing it is a "civil war" between "a single people" sharing language and culture, destined to be allies. He described it as a dispute between "older and younger brothers" regrettably exacerbated by differences, which Russia seeks to end swiftly. Medinsky warned that "it is impossible to defeat Russia in a protracted war," citing historical examples like the 21-year war with Sweden where Russia gained territory. He cautioned that Kyiv's unwillingness to compromise would result in further territorial losses. The second round of Russian-Ukrainian negotiations took place in Istanbul on June 2, where memoranda on conflict resolution were exchanged. On June 6, Medinsky announced Moscow had begun transferring over 6,000 bodies to Ukraine and exchanging wounded prisoners, but stated the Ukrainian side failed to appear at the agreed exchange location. Jihad mourns death of its leader, Raeq Basharat, in Tubas

Tubas - Saba: The Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine has moured the death of its leader, Raeq Abdulrahman Basharat, to the Palestinian people and the Arab and Islamic world. Basharat was assassinated by the Israeli special forces last night in the town of Tamoun, south of Tubas. In a press statement issued Wednesday, the Islamic Jihad Movement said, "The martyred leader played a prominent role during the 1987 Intifada and was subjected to an assassination attempt in 2002, during which his wife was martyred and his hands were amputated." It noted that Basharat had been arrested numerous times, totaling over nine years, and had gone on a hunger strike for 53 days in 2022 to protest his administrative detention before his release. It emphasized that Basharat "never hesitated to fulfill his duty and pursued his responsibilities with unwavering determination and resolve." The movement stressed that the targeting of leaders and mujahideen by the Israeli enemy's gangs will not weaken the resolve of the Palestinian people, nor will it weaken the resistance's will to continue confronting the occupation. Rather, their pure blood, which waters the land of Palestine, will produce generations more resilient and more formidable. Whatsapp Telegram Email Print more of (International)
