Watch: Kolhapuri chappal sellers cry foul over Prada sandal design

Italian fashion house Prada finds itself at the centre of a heated debate about cultural appropriation and GI tag violations after its Spring/Summer 2026 menswear collection featured flat leather sandals that bear a striking resemblance to the traditional Kolhapuri chappals. The design of the Indian Kolhapuri chappals has been awarded a Geographical Indication (GI) tag, recognising their unique cultural significance. Social media is abuzz with many calling out Prada for allegedly appropriating a centuries-old design without acknowledging its origin or the artisans who craft them.

Usha Vance says she learned of husband's VP pick ‘five minutes' before public

Usha Vance, the enigmatic Second Lady of the United States, revealed in a new interview that she found out her husband, JD Vance, would be Donald Trump's running mate just 'five minutes' before the rest of the country a breezy but revealing sit-down with Meghan McCain, which aired on Thursday, Vance opened up about the whiplash moment that thrust her into national political life, and about her continued discomfort in the spotlight. advertisement'It really felt like a bolt of lightning,' Vance said. 'You don't have an opportunity to think about it, or even to plan what it is that you'd like to do.' The interview focused more on personal topics than politics and offered a rare look into the views of the former progressive lawyer, who previously worked at a law firm and had kept a low political conversation with McCain, Vance repeatedly hinted that her current life is far from her dream scenario. 'In my dream world, I'll be able to live in my home and continue my career,' she said. 'If that happens in four years, I understand. If that happens at some other point in the future, I understand. I'm just sort of along for the ride and enjoying it.'advertisementShe seemed eager to maintain some normalcy, describing herself as a 'millennial person living in the world' who avoids hair-styling appointments, wears athleisure, and unwinds with Pilates and coffee when asked about the pressure of being the first South Asian woman in the role, she downplayed it: 'Maybe we've just sort of moved beyond trying to count firsts of everything,' she said. 'I'm not sure — except when older Indian people kind of give me that look.'Throughout the interview, Vance avoided taking political positions, instead reflecting on motherhood, identity, and how strange it feels to be seen differently now.'People are socially distant from you in various ways,' she said. 'Either because they really just hate something about you or because they're a little uncomfortable. Or maybe it's a sign of respect.'Even her children, she noted, are noticing the impact of their public profile. 'They're hearing big concepts, like that there's a war between Ukraine and Russia,' Vance said. 'Kids on the playground around here talk about these sorts of things; they want to play games about current events.'Despite the attempt to stay above the fray, Vance's role in a White House facing sharp criticism over mass deportations and civil rights rollbacks raises hard questions, especially given her background as the daughter of Indian immigrants and a former avoided asking those questions, focusing instead on Vance's portrayal by Freida Pinto in Hillbilly Elegy and her protein intake as a Hindu about her personal style, she answered with an identity-based reflection: 'What would I do if I were back in Cincinnati, living the life I had set out to live?' she mused. 'I would just try to be me and to feel like myself.'- EndsMust Watch

Salman Khan once warned Kaanta Laga makers about Shefali Jariwala's bold video: ‘Stop doing sexy songs, it's not good'

In the wake of Shefali Jariwala's untimely death at the age of 42 due to cardiac arrest, tributes are pouring in from fans and industry veterans alike. Fondly remembered as the Kaanta Laga girl, Shefali became a household name with the 2002 remix video that redefined the Indian music video landscape. However, not everyone welcomed the song's bold and rebellious visuals back then, including superstar Salman Khan . In a recent interview with Hindi Rush, recorded just months before Shefali's passing, the music video's directors Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru shared how Kaanta Laga created a national uproar, leading even Salman Khan to intervene. 'A big actor called us to his house and said, 'Main tumhe samjha raha hoon Radhika Vinay, yeh jo sexy kaam hai kam kiya karo, acha nahi hota (I'm explaining to you—stop doing such sexy songs, it's not good). You have nice, pure minds.'' The actor in question, they later revealed, was none other than Salman Khan. A remix that 'disturbed the moral fibre of the nation' Radhika and Vinay recalled being summoned by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) soon after the song's release. 'We got a call from the censor board saying, 'You have disturbed the moral fibre of the nation,'' they said. Interestingly, the inspiration for Kaanta Laga came from Salman himself. 'One day, we went to Salman Khan's house. He was working out while listening to a Jhankaar Beats remix of a Kishore Kumar song. That sparked the idea for a new kind of music video,' Vinay shared. The result was a bold departure from their earlier, more traditional music videos for Falguni Pathak, Jagjit Singh, and Pankaj Udhas. What followed was a new wave of remixes like Kaliyon Ka Chaman and Chadti Jawani, complete with sensual styling and edgy storytelling. 'Kaanta Laga girl' aka Shefali Jariwala reveals why she didn't work much after her initial success, actress says she suffered from epilepsy seizures The scandal behind the style Radhika revealed that the video's rebellious vibe was rooted in personal anecdotes. 'I went to a girls' school. One of my friends refused to get a stamp on her hand at a club—she asked for it on her neck instead. That scene made it into the video. The porn magazine? I was once caught reading one in school—so we used that too.' Vinay added, 'Even I didn't know there were adult magazines for women with male models. Our assistants scouted all over Mumbai and found one on Hill Road in Bandra.' They also clarified that the much-talked-about thong worn by Shefali was simply a fashion choice. 'We didn't realise we were disturbing the 'moral fibre' of the country,' Vinay said, ironically referencing the CBFC's words. From scandal to screen legend Shefali Jariwala, who played the fierce, club-going rebel in the video, later went on to participate in Bigg Boss 13, ironically hosted by Salman Khan himself. Despite the controversy that surrounded Kaanta Laga, the song made Shefali an icon of early 2000s pop culture. In an interview recorded just 10 months before her passing, Shefali had said, 'There can be only one Kaanta Laga girl in the whole world, and that is me. I love it. I want to be known as the Kaanta Laga girl till the day I die.'
