NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to flag off export of the first locomotive from Marhowrah factory in Saran for Guinea in West Africa on Friday, signalling the NDA govts' — both at Centre and state — thrust on accelerating economic activities in poll-bound Bihar.
Railway ministry officials said that 150 Make in India Evolution Series (ES43ACmi) locomotives for SimFer's Simandou iron ore project in Guinea worth more than Rs 3,000 crore are being manufactured. Simandou will be Africa's largest mining project. 'In the current financial year, 37 locomotives will be exported, another 82 locomotives will be shipped out in 2026-27 and the remaining 31 locomotives in the third year,' said an official.
Though the Marhowrah diesel locomotive factory (DLF) was announced by then railway minister Lalu Prasad, it remained inactive. Spread over 70 acres, the factory was established in 2018 to indigenously manufacture 1,000 state-of-the-art locomotives. The annual production capacity of the factory is over 100 locomotives.
The contract to export the locomotives was awarded to Wabtec Locomotive Private Ltd, a joint venture between Indian Railways and US-based Wabtec Corporation.

All these locomotives will have AC cabs. Each locomotive will have a single cab. Two locomotives together can carry the load of 100 wagons with maximum permissible speed. 'For manufacturing of these locomotives, three types of tracks — broad gauge, standard gauge and Cape guage have been laid in Marhowrah premises,' said another railway official.
Officials said with the Indian Railway network achieving full electrification, there is a huge scope for exporting diesel locos to countries where there is demand. 'It's an opportunity to increase our export of locos that match the best standard across the globe. For Bihar, it will be a big milestone,' said an official.

Despite AAI ban, biz jets fly out of Begumpet airport

1 2 Hyderabad: Despite a total ban on commercial operations, the Begumpet airport in the heart of Hyderabad seems to be making way for several high-profile Hyderabadis to take off from the facility aboard private choppers. According to documents available with TOI, over half a dozen business jets ferrying three to six passengers each flew in and out of the airport between June 12 and now. Most of the destinations were within the two Telugu states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. This information, coming in days after the horrific Air India aircraft (Boeing 787) crash in Ahmedabad, has raised serious safety concerns especially since the Begumpet facility is nestled within a densely populated pocket of Hyderabad. As part of the concession agreement signed between the Union ministry of civil aviation and the Hyderabad International Airport Ltd in 2008, when the GMR airport was developed at Shamshabad, known as the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), all commercial activity was suspended at the old facility. Incidentally, only weeks ago on June 2, the Airports Authority of India, had issued a circular on implementation of the SOP for handling aircraft operations at Begumpet airport. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Here's What A Walk-In Shower Should Cost Kohler Showers Learn More Undo (A copy is with TOI). Among other guidelines it asked the city facility to ensure only aircraft belonging to defence forces, police, govt dignitaries, and some other non-commercial services are allowed to operate out of its premises. It reiterated the ban on non-scheduled operators (NSOPs) – or commercial aircraft – and allowed authorities a week's time to ensure it was implemented. "Yet, in the last few days there has been hectic activity of such choppers from Begumpet. They have been ferrying prominent industrialists, corporate honchos and Tollywood A-listers, along with family members, for various private events," said a source in the know of things. When TOI verified the call signs (unique identifiers used for radio communication between pilots and air traffic control) of these business jets with the updated list of NSOPs available with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, it found that all of them featured on it. "This only confirms that commercial activity is being allowed from Begumpet despite AAI orders," said the source alleging that these operators are signing false undertakings, claiming that they are non-commercial flights, to use the city airport, and yet stay under the radar. "The airport and ATC here has just enough capacity and skilled workforce to handle VIP movement. To add to its burden with commercial operations is not only unlawful but also risky. Also, because there have been multiple instances of bird hits around the facility," alleged an aviation expert familiar with the facility. "We have been following all protocols and guidelines. These allegations have no basis. The aircraft that are permitted to operate out of the Begumpet facility are only allowed here," said an official from Begumpet airport, refusing to be quoted.

Tribals protest land handover, claim ownership rights

1 2 3 Ranchi: Hundreds of tribal villagers in Ranchi's Argora on Monday gheraoed the circle office alleging illegal allotment of land by the circle officer to the Army and demanded the immediate cessation of unauthorised land allocations and called for a tripartite dialogue involving the administration, military, and villagers to resolve ongoing land disputes. The protesters highlighted the long-standing land dispute between the military and local farmers, dating back to the post-World War II era. According to them, about 1,086.87 acres in nine mouzas were handed over to the army by their forefathers for three years against crop compensation. "But after the war finished, the military did not return the land to the villagers and handed that over to the airport authorities. The military is now claiming ownership over the same amount of land in only three mouzas out of the nine, posing a threat to the livelihoods and culture of the villagers. They stop us from farming or constructing houses in our lands, whereas the villagers have ownership of the land," said Ajit Oraon, president of Birsa Munda Airport Bisthapit Morcha, under whose banner the villagers gheraoed the circle office. Oraon added, "We gathered there to get justifications from the circle office based on what documents the army is claiming rights over our lands. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Scam Exposed: What They Won't Tell You about zero trust! The protesters alleged that the army is claiming their rights over the lands based on a self-proclaimed land document. Speaking to TOI, Argora circle officer Suman Saurabh said that the army's claim over the land is justified, and they have verified land documents. "The forefathers of the villagers received compensation for handing over the land to the army that does not ensure that they will also get compensation. The army has brought verified accusation documents of the claimed land," the circle officer added.
