George Clooney hails Adam Sandler as a ‘beautiful, wonderful actor'
George Clooney has hailed Adam Sandler as a 'beautiful, wonderful actor'. The former ER actor, 63, made the declaration as he spoke to People about working with comic Adam, 58, on their upcoming film Jay Kelly, directed by Noah Baumbach. George gushed: 'I kept telling the cast, 'Don't call him Sand Man. Don't talk to him like he's just some goofy comedian. He's actually a really beautiful, wonderful actor.'' Even though George and Adam have been friends for years, Jay Kelly marks their first time they have acted together – an experience both say deepened their mutual respect and friendship. The comedy-drama sees George star as Jay Kelly, a famous actor who embarks on a whirlwind and unexpectedly profound journey alongside his long-time friend and manager, Ron, played by Adam. According to the film's synopsis, the two men confront questions about their choices, relationships and legacies – a premise that resonated with Adam immediately after hearing it from Baumbach. 'The sell was clear,' Adam said in a joint interview with George for People. He added: 'My character loves George's character so much, and I thought that would be fun to do and easy to do with George. And as a guy who's an actor who'd live a similar life to Jay Kelly, it's a crazy depiction – how accurate a lot of it is.' The friendship between George and Adam extended well beyond the script. Adam said: 'He invited my family everywhere, every place in Italy and England. 'Our trailers were next to each other. His friends and my friends all hung out, shot hoops, threw the baseball around, talked about other movies we like, other comedians that have made us laugh, his upbringing, my upbringing.' Though widely known for his comedic work, Adam added the tone of Jay Kelly proved more intense at times. He said: 'It was heavy.' George also praised Sandler's ability to shift into deeper emotional territory, comparing his performance to that in Uncut Gems, the 2019 thriller directed by Josh and Benny Safdie. He said: 'Because of what his paycheck is, which is doing big goofy comedies, when he does these other, beautiful, Uncut Gems kinds of movies, it reminds people of that. 'He's not just a good comedian.' Jay Kelly will open in select cinemas on 14 November before arriving on Netflix on 5 December.

George Clooney doesn't care if people think he only plays himself
George Clooney doesn't "give a s***" about criticism of his acting. The 64-year-old star's versatility as a performer has come into question but the Jay Kelly actor insisted he doesn't care that people believe he is only ever playing a version of himself because he appreciates the diverse range of projects that come his way. He told Vanity Fair magazine: "Do people say that I only play myself? I don't give a s***. "There aren't that many guys in my age group that are allowed to do both broad comedies like O Brother [Where Art Thou?] and then do Michael Clayton or Syriana. So if that means I'm playing myself all the time, I don't give a s***. "Have you ever tried playing yourself? It's hard to do.' George suggested he has aged out of action roles because it would be "funny" to see him running after a bad guy now, and he welcomed his latest movie Jay Kelly, in which he plays a world famous movie star faced with a personal reckoning. He said: When you're an actor in my position, at my age, finding roles like this aren't all that common. "If you can't make peace with aging, then you've got to get out of the business and just disappear. "I'm now the guy that, when I go running after a bad guy, it's funny—it's not suspenseful. That's okay. I embrace all of that.' And while he was quick to sign on for the project, he did ask director Noah Baumbach - who is known for requesting multiple takes of a scene - to make the shoot less gruelling. George admitted: "I literally said to him, 'Noah, look, I love the script. I love you as a director, but I'm 63 years old, dude - I can't do 50 takes.' "I don't have it in me. I've got the acting range from A to B." The former E.R. star is grateful that he didn't experience "blinding" success until relatively late in his career. He said: 'I've been the beneficiary of having my career not be massively successful in lots of different directions. 'I didn't really get successful, in the kind of success that can be blinding, until I was 33 years old. I'd been working for 12 years at that point. I had a real understanding of how fleeting all of it is and how little it has to do with you, quite honestly.'

Food craving triggers special mission for Prince George
The Prince and Princess of Wales have enjoyed a summer holiday sailing around the Greek islands with their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. Cruising aboard a 50-metre superyacht that is reportedly worth $80 million, the family travelled through the sunlit waters of the Ionian Sea after departing from Kefalonia. At some point during their voyage, it is understood that George, who is second in line to the throne, made a special request that prompted a unique errand. As the superyacht lingered off Zakynthos, word is that the 12-year-old's ask set off a discreet mission ashore. Insiders remain characteristically guarded about the details, but one source offered a tantalising hint. 'George required a specific dietary item, which led to the tender going ashore in Zakynthos to purchase it. Nothing extravagant, just something particular,' they revealed to the Daily Mail. It's hard to imagine what could not be produced by the yacht's chef, but it appears even a royal holiday sometimes calls for a little journey to satisfy one's cravings. One local jokingly speculated that the special request might have been for McDonald's, since Zakynthos is one of the few Greek islands to have the fast-food chain.
